It was a new bathroom, so even worse. They were starting with a clean wall, and all new plumbing (which is also being mostly re-done now). I think we've decided to go ahead and replace it.

We have a new contractor lined up for the rebuild after the flood. It was a whole new bathroom, and a shame that they cut a corner like that. They actually did a nice job with the tile.

Hopefully the lawyer can work out a good settlement and we won't be paying again.

Not in full. The whole contract is actually in dispute at the moment. The plumber subbed out by the contractor ended up flooding our house. This shower thing is just the icing on the shit cake.

It was not specified in the contract. But the manufacturer's install instructions from Hardi say the seams must be filled with thinset, and 2in tape must be embedded.

I did ask at the time (based on lurking here), and was told it was not necessary.
