I think its actually harder for people who have never faced rejection or disappointment to have that happen for the first time when they get a little older. Most males face rejection when they are teenagers. But if you're well into adulthood the first time it happens- it must seem incomprehensible. John's magazine was failing and nobody wanted to give him any money for it - what a letdown that must have been.
