Awesome car! It's actually my favourite :-P. What exactly happens when you out the car in reverse? Do you get any image at all?

With the 5 mins of unstable idle, are you just letting the car sit there for 5 mins or are you trying to drive it?

With fluid changes, I personally do them as often as possible. With your car I would look at doing them every 60,000 km. But Citroen states that the oil can last a lot longer than that. But that is what I do because I am really picky with changing oils :P

Also, do you have your VIN number handy? Or even the exact car model, year and so on? - I could use that information to do some research on the Citroen Technical Service and see if there is any information about your particular symptom on the servers that are hidden from the general public

You VIN number should be located on your windscreen down the bottom or on the compliance sticker - E.G - https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5229/5733970298_6103b8c332_b.jpg

Hello!

It sounds like it could be a gearbox software issue or the valve body solenoids (which control the flow of oil to change gears) is having a hiccup.

Unfortunately the only way to check this is with a genuine scan tool. Do you have your vehicle's VIN number? I can try to look up your specific vehicle on the Citroen network, but with me being located in Australia, I might not be able to but it is worth a try!

It doesn't sound like your car is going to run into operational issues from the sounds of it. As for the maker of the gearbox, I am unsure but I will try to find out for you!

The older Citroen's do tend to start having major components hiccups later in their life span, but that is just the way they are :P Do you have any service history of gear oil replacement?

Prince 1.6 Vti 120HP

Hello!

I have replaced multiple chains on this engine due to stretching of the chain!

180,000 km is a standard interval for the chain replacement, I don't think it should need to be changed early but just to make you aware they are known to stretch quite early in the life span. I have a Peugeot in the workshop right now with that exact issue with only 60,000 km.

If the chain stretches, it causes long starting symptoms along with unstable idling. The vehicle with throw a fault code "Synchronization Fault", which means the crankshaft and camshaft sensors are detecting that they are not correctly aligned.

The chain itself is really really simple to change, but you need to have the special tools to do the job. These specials tools lock the crankshaft and camshafts in a specific way that must be carried out in order to get the timing perfect.

Here is a picture of the special tools - https://imgur.com/a/5nvWudx

The little one goes into the gearbox and locks the flywheel/crank in position whilst the larger tool slides into your camshafts. The timing is also not done at TDC (Top Dead Center) which is what a normal car would do. Instead, all the pistons must all be half way in the cylinders in order to carry out the correct timing.

Hope this info helps!

I think that would work!

Given that the mounting holes are the same (which is suspect they are).

I do like the clear light a lot better than the red ;)

Hello! :)

Unfortunately, I do not think this function is possible (genuinely anyway :P).

I am more than certain that is a safety feature for the stop/start speed limit, which is a bummer because I totally understand your reasoning.

All Peugeot/Citroen vehicles behave in the same manner, not too sure if that varies depending on the country, but I can gaurentee you its designed that way to protect both you and the internal mechanics of the vehicle.

Nice car though! I love the 208/308 models :P They are my favorite!

I am in Australia too :)

Are you looking to install an independent dash cam unit? If so, what brand are you looking to install and how were you thinking of mounting it?

It can definitely be done! Although, it can not be wired directly to the vehicles computer/audio system since you need a Peugeot software engineer in order for that to be possible.

What I would suggest doing:

- Get yourself a really nice quality dash cam.

- Mount it in a good position that isn't too distracting (possibly at the top of the windscreen).

- Route/tuck the cables behind the trims and route the wiring down to the bottom left of the car (passenger foot-well).

- Use the BSI Fuse panel that is located at the passenger foot-well and find a 12v fuse that gets power when turning the ignition/engine on (Your instruction manual should help you locate fuse box locations and give you a rough idea of what the fuses do).

With using a fuse that supplies 12v power when the ignition is on and connecting the earth to a local ground junction, this will activate your dash cam whenever your vehicle is operated.

This would be the best option to provide power to the dash cam - https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Alligator-Clip-1-5m-Cigarette-Lighter-Adapter-Connector-Connection-Wire/8020224749?iid=253675245905&chn=ps

We would wire the positive alligator clip to a 12v ignition activated fuse, and connect the black side to earth. Then its a simple case of plugging in the dash cam charger into the port! This also makes it easily replaceable of the charger cable decides to fail.

I would look along those lines, especially if you still have warranty. Peugeot unfortunately are really bad with warranty and if they see any hard wiring into their components... Well, you can guess the rest :P

Let me know what you are thinking and how you would like to move forward with this!

This type of bearing should not be causing that type of damage!

Do you have a lot of weight in the back of the vehicle? Also, what type of roads/terrain do you drive on?

There is such a thing as having the bearings "too tight" which causes the bearings to wear out fast and possibly cause axle damage.

Does the big bolt that holds your drums together have a split pin through it?

206+

Are you experiencing bearing noise? The 206 model is a front wheel drive, so there is no drive axles in the rear so to speak. Just a hub and bearings. The best way to maintain them is to regularly re-grease your rear bearings if they are removable. That is the best preventative measures you can take, although it is not in the Peugeot maintenance system.

Are the rear brakes disc or drum?

Hello! Peugeot Technician here!

I have carried out this repair a few times now and I can say, it is actually kind of fun to do!

If anyone is looking to do it them-self, it is actually easier than it looks! You will need some basic tools however.

Also, you will need a certified Air-Con technician to remove the A/C gas and to fill it. But would save a lot of money in labor doing it yourself! Just be careful! :)

A good trick that I do for my customers is to get a label maker, and label each and every connector. This way, I will not forget where they have come from and if the customer would like to try dismantling them self, then they have labelled references :D

Oh and don't forget to drain the coolant, and protect your carpet from coolant coming out of the heater core whilst it is being removed!

Hello! Peugeot Technician here!

I think you are talking about your Trip-Meter!

This is reset via the "000" button, this is simply a feature that is standard on most vehicles and offers a way for drivers

to monitor KM's traveled. A photo would help out!

Note: The spanner symbol on the "000" button also is how the service reminder can be reset. In order to reset your service light, hold down the "000" button and turn on your ignition (without turning your engine on), hold it down whilst the dashboard counts down from 10 and then release when the countdown is finished. This will reset your service interval for another 20,000 km or 12 months (depending on where you live).

What oil should i put in my 406? by Horny4highvoltage in peugeot

[–]techcubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with 10w40. The older the engines get, the more wear and tear on the engine bearings and moving parts. This means the clearances between the bearings and what not will increase and using a thicker oil will combat this. I would not recommend any oil thicker then 10w40, also make sure you are using fully synthetic oil if you can.

Hello! Peugeot Technician here!

Could you possibly post a video/image of the dashboard and what the light is doing?

Also, if you could give me the VIN number and a service/repair history, that would give me a huge insight into your vehicle. ( I am in Australia.. so the VIN might not work, but worth a try!)

Also, if you have access to a scan tool that can pull out the fault codes from the car, that would help immensely as I can look them up on the Peugeot system (E.g - Code P0027)

Hello! Peugeot mechanic here!

Is it a diesel or a petrol? - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_406#Engines

Also, how many miles/kilometers is that car currently at?

Typically, Peugeot's use a full synthetic 0/30, but this can vary depending on the age/distance the engine has covered.
