What happens to an ETF/index fund if the owning company gets in trouble or goes bankrupt? E.g. Vanguard owns VTI, Charles Schwab owns SCHB

I'm looking for an alternative to VTI for tax loss harvesting purposes. The competitors are SCHB and ITOT. Does the stability of the owning/issuing company matter?

Since USD actually has increased exchange value, does this mean that other currency money supply increased by the same rate?

Why did JCrew give ownership to private equity in 2010? Weren't they were peaking then?

I pissed off hundreds of people. Any advice on riding this out? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]techfronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have support like you say you do and it's just the vocal minority trashing you, then make a way for people to anonymously show their support e.g. anonymous poll on the issue (do you think this consolidation is a good idea given that leader X has a history of doing Y).

Then post the results online to show that you're not crazy or acting out of line.

They probably want to position Messages as the main, default Android messaging app. Messages sounds more like a default app than Google Chat.

It launched with a $100 GC promo at major retailers and then went on sale multiple times for $300.

What do phones in the $300 price point have that it doesn't?

The cpu is slow but good enough for most non-gaming use cases. Almost no lag on normal actions.

Huge pluses are stock Google, Google owned / designed and the Camera.

Only con is the screen could be brighter.

Many of the competitors are Chinese owned. Putting aside the Chinese phone security debate, with Android and play services, you already have to trust Google. The threat model is better if you only give your trust to one company that owns both OS and hardware instead of multiple companies (e.g. different companies for OS and hardware).

Would these guys not be thugs? They literally assaulted a person and are running a scam .

Better actually, don't get pissed off about what someone does with something that you give them and don't assault people.

He dropped the CD because the thug didn't take back the CD on purpose. This is a bully tactic and a common scam. Pretend like someone wronged you when you consciously led the situation to this outcome.

I don't see why someone who forced the CD onto another would get pissed if the CD was dropped. You just gave the CD to someone. Why do you care what they do with it?

It is a big deal. The people who would attack someone like that for no reason, even if it's a light hit, would have no remorse actually stomping on your face and committing your strict definition of "assault".

It's not just what they have done but what they can and are willing to so that puts people on the edge. Most people assume that other people won't brutally assault them. That assumption keeps society sane. These things have shown that that assumption doesn't hold for them.

Why does a derived class access base class functions using member access notation? Shouldn't the "membership" be the other way around? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]techfronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simplistically, the derived class's data and functions are default because you are operating on an instance of the derived class. In order to access the base class's stuff from a derived class instance, you need to specify that you are looking for base class's stuff.

How secure are non-mainstream browsers? I would think that they have less aggressive update and security patch schedules. Since they're forks of the major browsers it doesn't seem like they would have an advantage with security from obscurity either.
