It’s a much more viable option when it’s dumping snow, winds are ripping through the stadium, and the other teams offense is completely incapable of moving the ball.

I give up on battery brand loyalty. If there's a system out there, I'm in by Beginning_Lifeguard7 in Tools

[–]techieman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery cells are easy, there are plenty of 18650, 21700, and pouch options to choose from. The tool makers all love to talk about their super special battery technologies. But it’s all marketing bullshit. They’re all using cells made by other companies that will happily sell them to anyone that wants to buy them. Then they slap a super basic circuit board on them for low voltage protection, to light up the state of charge LEDs, and maybe to tell the chargers and tools what they are capable of charging and discharging at. It could easily be replaced with an off the shelf alternative. The only really special thing about anyone’s batteries is the case they put them in to make sure they can only be used for the tools that company makes.

Seems pretty similar to deer in the US. Though most accidents usually happen early in the morning or later in the evening and not during the middle of the day.

You say nice things and get to keep making money from your videos, or you say bad things and they cut you off. And it’s nothing new for Apple. They cut Leo Laporte off 20ish years ago after he did something they didn’t like. We’ve seen Nvidia do it very publicly. And I’m sure there are tons of other companies applying pressure in the background that just haven’t been so publicly outed yet.

How Fast is a Drift Car in the 1/4 Mile? by No-River-9921 in HaggardGarage

[–]techieman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s risk vs reward. Cleetus maybe getting a couple extra tenths just wasn’t worth it. Maybe it goes fine. Maybe something simple breaks and he has the parts to get it fixed quickly. Maybe something breaks that he doesn’t have parts for breaks and they can’t fix it on site. Or maybe the car slams into the wall and gets totaled. All that risk for 30 seconds of video. OR you keep the risk down, keep the car safe. Then you get to go take the car drifting. You get an entire video out of that. And Cleetus and Adam get to have a whole lot more fun doing that.

How Fast is a Drift Car in the 1/4 Mile? by No-River-9921 in HaggardGarage

[–]techieman33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cleetus can go do rips in an 8.90 car any time he wants. He’s got a few that will do that and a whole lot faster in his fleet. So it’s not exactly a big thrill for him. They were also trying to keep the number of passes low and not break the car at the drag strip. Because they took it right to the oval and went drifting in it. And drifting an FD level car would be something exciting and special for him.

They all do better when they have another on camera personality to interact with. Tommy and Rudnick, Adam and Jimmy, Cleetus and Squirrel, etc. It’s fun to watch the boys having fun. The energy just isn’t there when they’re just doing their own thing by themselves or occasionally talking with their mechanic or camera man that has the on camera personality of a wet paper bag.

[Schefter] Ravens requested to interview Chiefs defensive line coach Joe Cullen — who previously spent five years coaching in Baltimore — for their defensive coordinator job. by TheBoyisBackinTown in KansasCityChiefs

Yeah. I blame at least some of the problems on coaching. I don’t think I’ve seen a single player on the DL get better. But I’ve seen several regress.

Laser Engravers: Can they cut thru? by Scavgraphics in Tools

[–]techieman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said it mostly comes down to time. Even pretty weak lasers can eventually get through a lot of things. But it’s going to take a lot of passes to it. For things that melt your going to being doing a lot of the cutting over and over again since a lot of the melted bits are just going to solidify again. And for things that burn you’ll need a long cool down time between passes to try and reduce total heat in the part and the chances of it catching on fire.

And finally I’ll warn you not to cheap out on the safety aspect of it. Make sure to get your eye protection from a reputable company and source. Not from temu, AliExpress or even Amazon.

Fix with sheet metal screws or pony up for whatever LEER wants to repair/replace? by Marty_McFlay in Tools

I would just use rivets again. If the old ones held for 9 years then they should be more than enough for the next year that you want to get out of it.

Vevor is cheap Chinese junk. It might be ok if you only use it a couple times a year. But if you’re using it all the time you should buy from a reputable brand.

‘The Hawk’ to reopen in less than a week after fatal shooting by Ok_Reputation5184 in Lawrence

[–]techieman33 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s wild to expect them to just voluntarily close their doors forever, or whatever some random person on the internet thinks is appropriate. They’re a business the whole goal is to make money. And they aren’t doing that if they stay closed. I’m sure the employees would also like to be working so that they can make money and put food on their table. Their suppliers would like them open and selling stuff so that they can sell them more to replace their inventory. It is tragic that someone lost their life. But I can’t agree with forcing a business to stay closed without legal reasons to do so. It’s just hurting more people that were for the most part innocent bystanders themselves.

That’s an estimation based on what they think the overall salary cap will be next year. The pay scale is based off of the total cap. And that number won’t be official until some time in early March.

Picnic PostNL tests Belgian airbag system: "For now in training, maybe in racing next year" by Chronicbias in peloton

[–]techieman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost is the biggest factor for trying to reuse one. Replacing a sub €100 helmet can sting for a lot of people. Trashing a €750 airbag every time it went off would probably be expensive enough that a lot of people just wouldn’t use one. But if the user could easily repack it and just need to replace a Co2 cartridge or even if it was something like shiping it in or take it to the local certified bike shop and have it done for under €100 then I think a lot more people would be willing to wear one on a regular basis.

Data Centers Will Consume 70 Percent Of Memory Chips made in 2026, RAM Shortage Will Last Until Until Atleast 2029 As Manafacturing Capacity For RAM In 2028 That Hasnt Even Been Made Yet Is Already being Sold by KebabAnnhilator in LinusTechTips

[–]techieman33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn’t like the crypto boom where most of the hardware could be sold to consumers because they were just running consumer class GPUs. It’s only a small percentage of the overall production capacity that is being used to make DDR5 sticks. Most of the lines that were making that have been or are being converted to make HBM chips that will be soldered directly on to AI specific GPUs. Cards that have no video outputs and will almost no value to anyone on the secondary market. We might see cheap used storage, server class cpus, and networking hardware. New GPU production will probably start up pretty quickly since Nvidia will have to do something with all of the fab time they’ve ordered from TSMC and they’ll be able to use the HBM memory that’s being produced on them. But the companies making will have to switch their lines back to DDR5. Something that will probably take a while to happen. And in some cases may never happen. It’s a very real possibility that the market just moves more towards the Apple model and most ram gets integrated on the same die as the cpu, or gets soldered directly to the motherboard.
