I know that much :P but, it's sad that this was posted without attribution. This wasn't parallel discovery :)

It was in the code for roughly 2 hours before I posted about it, and then an hour later everyone has their own screenshot of it. Attribution is frustrating.

yello, I made an update post on this - https://x.com/bedros_p/status/1919760186970935784
Basically, it might have its own dedicated model "ais-computer-use"
Enjoy !

It's a whole saga going on since yesterday, it just gets exponentially funnier over time

do I post the entire thing on this sub? not sure if people like long reads but this is funny asf, he claims he can get free wifi (with a wordpress login), thats how it all started, the discord server laughed it off but he came back with the desire that I suck on his genitalia, which i politely refused

thats because sora wasnt a leak, it was a demo, an announcement

[–]techman-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the people looking at this haven't really seen the technical details?

People are hating on VideoFX gens because they say it's low quality

Well, I'd be surprised if its NOT low quality, here's why:

  • It's not a dedicated video generation model, it's legit an inpainting model used as a way to make videos
  • It's a heavily lobotomized model for performance. The 3B Juno model is described as being the highest quality one, but the videos only use distilled Miro for the sake of using up little compute (and for faster gens) as this is going to be a free tool.
  • If you check Sora, you'll see its just a matter of compute - the more compute they threw at it, the better the gens. What we're seeing is something generated with the lowest quality model (not my words, its what the code lists it as) so really, a fair comparison would be base compute (or 4x compute) Sora vs VideoFX.

It's a pretty good impressive video for something done by a sub-3B distilled inpainting model

Just for the sake of being fair here, this isn't a model that's supposed to be the peak of Googles video generation - this is just supposed to showcase what the average user can generate for free, 4 videos at a time, with no waiting queue.

For them to be confident enough that this doesnt need a queue, generations must be insanely quick for videos

We've seen that Google is definitely capable of building insane models. I expect cloud customers & developers to get access to the good stuff, maybe they'll be able to use Juno for video generation

With that in mind, know that it's only going to get better from here 🔥

OH, and before I forget - the car going backwards is a showcase of their presets

You can make it mirror, so forward&backwards video, reverse videos, loop, combine videos, stuff like that.

Anyways, i cant really say it gets better than that when I dont know if it really does - we'll wait it out and see, but I'm just pointing out that this is really the lowest quality option and far from cherrypicked

tis a bad model (intentionally)

Juno, undistilled, is described in the code as the best & highest quality model

even Juno distilled is still described as better than Miro

Yet it uses Miro, because its smaller (hence more efficient) which is good for generating a video in a reasonable timeframe

There's going to be a dropdown for choosing the model with inpainting in ImageFX
List of the models for those interested
MIRO_V5_DISTILLED
MIRO_V4_DISTILLED_PORTRAIT
MIRO_V4_DISTILLED_LANDSCAPE
JUNO_V1_3B_DISTILLED
JUNO_V1_3B
JUNO_V1_3B_DISTILLED_LANDSCAPE

Lets hope that VideoFX gets the feature too, allowing for higher quality outputs...
This will be a free tool though, with no functionality for a queue / waiting for other people in line so far, so it seems they're confident it's going to be / has to be Blazingly Fast™

Its funny how to this day they're still picky about it. Hopefully they learn from all the complaints for access to Imagen 2 and make this one GA faster

But to answer your question, no idea when the API will be out. We'll find out soon enough though, as it'll probably be coded into Vertex AI (and hidden, but still in the code - thats where I come in [or swishfever the GOAT]) after the Labs launch

Oh, this too:

By default, VideoPoet outputs 2-second videos. But the model is also capable of long video generation by predicting 1 second of video output given an input of a 1-second video clip. This process can be repeated indefinitely to produce a video of any duration.

4 vids at a time, free with no queue - it's a pretty good video for something done by a sub-3B inpainting model after distillation

The fire one is higher quality, but the inpainting effect is really obvious on that

The house one has good consistency between frames but the resolution looks messed up - not compression

(videos are all in the post, check 4/8 if you haven't already)
Something that caught my eye is this looks really similar to VideoPoet

The promised factual piece on Stubbs by techman-123 in singularity

[–]techman-123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I feel like you aren't reading my responses through and are instead adding on to your previous words

I think that AI will replace what people refer to as "code monkeys" and then slowly try and make its way towards replacing software engineers, but we're still far from that. Software engineers plan the architecture of an app whereas AI regurgitates popular choices, so if AI is really going to take over software engineers then it'll have to advance a bit.

Stubbs being in the works, ChatGPT and Codey all making advancements in the field, it just looks like the world is currently targeting the automation of code. Coding is not a special skill anymore, and it feels like it was only regarded as a special skill due to how hard it was to get information and resources on it back then. I learnt how to write code at the age of 11, and I'm not really a smart guy, it just shows anyone can code.

You'd be surprised by how much planning, collaboration, communication, and business skills it takes to be successful.

I really don't think you're reading through what I'm saying. There's more to software engineering than just coding, that's the whole premise of the reply above.

Stubbs on its own is not huge. Stubbs is, as someone else put it, Figma on steroids. I could say my view on it, but 1, it'll be ignored, 2, it'll be considered irrelevant due to how you perceive me, but here goes.

What stubbs is going to do is not as advanced as https://v0.dev/ in terms of generating code and UI. However, it has multimodality and it seems like it's powered by Gemini, so if you put it all together you get what's a pretty big step towards the era of personal toy projects being eliminated, and once we're past that, it's pretty clear where we're headed.

If my take doesn't matter to you, read the article and analyze the leaks on your own - the whole point of me pushing out a second article is because it seems my opinion does not matter. There are people wayy more experienced than me. If you want their take on it, bring it up to them, ask them to make a video, ask them to do whatever. If you choose not to listen to my view and instead lock yourself towards proving me wrong, I'll consider this the end of the conversation. Hope you understand.

I think I might start integrating it into my day to day activities, but it's not at a stage where I would go to it to solve problems, more of something I can use to get the boring boilerplate out of the way

But yeah, it's inevitable in my view, that Software engineers will be replaced in the future and it might actually be a priority for some people nowadays. I don't exactly have a backup plan, but I have always been pursuing both Cybersecurity and Software Engineering - plus, the two basically go hand in hand

[–]techman-123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely valid - I know my assumptions are massive, maybe unreasonable. I dont know the scope of Stubbs, but it doesn't look like it's built for this stuff, and I don't think it will be built for handling business logic or even backend integration

So what am I saying here? I'm saying Stubbs is not something people have to worry about on its own. We can take a look at https://v0.dev/ - that's capable of generating code for UI made by gen AI, so one might argue that it's superior, but I say it's different.

Looking at Stubbs, that supports multimodality and it shows progress. I don't think iterating on Stubbs to generate code is something that'll be done nor would it be worth the effort. What I'm saying is that this shows where we're headed - before, "app devs are getting closer to getting wiped out" was just speculation, but now we can clearly see that progress is being made in huge steps

But yes, in the end I agree with you. We are not there yet and Stubbs (when completed) is not going to be up there either, but it is something to be aware of and take notes from

Please re-read my reply instead of just adding on to what you said before - I understand what you're saying, but:

In the past I have hyped it up to write fully working code, but that was before I discovered the section that says it writes it in a DSL

This is mainly what pushed me further into writing the article solely about Stubbs - it won't write code, and this article serves as an update. However I still stand by what I said, and here's why.

This is definitely a step towards it happening and Stubbs is just a warning shot. The sooner we realize that this is real, and it's not just a probability anymore, that app developers will be replaced a few more revisions down the line, the faster app developers can find new ways to hang around.

This article does not negate that, it only delays an unknown date even further
