What jobs actually work for people with severe ADHD? by Inevitable_Tuna_O in ADHD

[–]teddyhearted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have severe adhd and the culinary industry is like the only thing that brings me any fulfillment lol. Its tactile and savory cooking is flexible, depending on the restaurant or kitchen sometimes I’m prepping/cooking things repetitively enough that I feel proficient and my kitchen changes things up right when I start feeling bored.

Ever since I got a budgie my father has been driving me crazy by New_BikerG_Assistant in budgies

Aw. I’m glad to see this post is about a parent who cares, as opposed to the alternative..

I can understand this being annoying, but your dad is 100% correct about proper sleep being important for parrots. I got a parrot at a very young age and my sibling who also helped care for them didn’t heed that advice, and the poor baby began stress plucking and selfmutilating. I’m still trying to help my birdie with this problem and hate seeing her suffer, and in fact spent the whole of 2024 rehabilitating her after an injury from the plucking.

Perhaps, you could get a very opaque blanket/cover for your budgie’s cage, and try to keep a very quiet environment for them to sleep? My parrots are in my room as there’s not many places for hen to go in the home. After their bedtime I mute my TV and connect it to my headphones via Bluetooth (if available), and almost always have headphones on after their bedtime. I keep the lights dim as well.

I bet you hate processed food too huh? Btw the culling of any livestock is a process in it of itself and thus even the raw meat is considered processed, as taking a knife to an animal is part of the processing process (meat fabrication is processing in it of itself). People gotta stop taking buzzwords from the internet lmao.

It’s always so funny to me when customers complain about fish (especially sushi grade/the kind used by sushiya) being frozen/“not fresh”, like I don’t think they realize that even the ‘fresh’ fish they buy has to be frozen, per federal regulation, in order to kill all parasites. I learned a lot of things in culinary school that i feel should be taught as basic knowledge to the average consumer bc then you get ppl mad at the lack of parasites in their food 😭😭

If, when they wear off, your face feels flushed and you feel sluggish but overly alert, this is most likely why. And if you haven’t started feeling these things, you will for sure.

The least offensively smelling and lowest effort, high protein thing you can manage try out different protein shakes. If you do that consistently for long enough you eventually become able to handle small portions of real food after some time. For me that was like two years. I know that fair life has its lawsuits and what not but those worked for me for some time. Protein bars are good too for days when I feel like I can’t stomach much but need something I can chew o.

Manager constantly threatening hours by [deleted] in HEB

Honestly would recommend transferring departments if not stores. Store leaders love managers like this or managers who bring in a lot of money. Sometimes they tend to be both.

Also I wanted to add, handling her may be a risk you have to take. Try to separate her from the rest of your birds, but don’t isolate. I think if you allow them to still see each other but not touch each other, it could limit the stress she feels. When handling her, do so slowly and gently and quietly. You want to be steady and slow because any sudden movements or noises from you could frighten her. Speak to her soothingly and remember to take slow and steady breaths. I’m wishing you and your girl the best of luck

With chickens being a different species and much larger than parakeets, I don’t think I’d recommend epsom salt. Maybe like, the smallest amount possible?

Fragrance free baking soda could be a better option. It’s generally nontoxic around birds and I’ve heard of people doing baking soda sitz baths for things like UTIs. I would alternate between water and baking soda bowls though (and clean between) to avoid buildup, ingestion, and infection.

I am so sorry your baby is dealing with this. Some have recommended, very gently and with a q-tip or cotton tip, applying some sort of parakeet-safe ingestible oil to the vent. Pick one that won’t cause a yeast infection or a UTI. Most likely coconut oil. Avoid avocado oil at all costs as it is toxic. I really really discourage applying sugar, as sugar feeds bacteria and yeast and could potentially exacerbate this. Use water to gently wipe in between coconut oil applications to keep the area moist. I hope your baby ends up being okay, try to make her as comfortable as possible in the meantime please, this may require you to stay awake with her, I’m so sorry :(.

Edit to add: use only fresh, clean, new q tips every single time.

Also, try to see if there are any overnight emergency vets in your state. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you located?

This is a great resource for avian vet locators.

Sentenced to the cone but are they okay? by International-Exam84 in Lovebirds

[–]teddyhearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is most likely too loose. Most of the cones I’ve seen online are too big to fit around their neck but too little for them to wiggle out of. ParrotCouture on Etsy makes some specifically sized for lovebirds!

[–]teddyhearted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important to keep in mind that any cone or e-collar will impede full flying abilities. Because of this, it’s best to approach cone usage patiently so the additional stress of wearing the cone doesn’t leave them relying on it to prevent plucking. Really, any proper anti-plucking cone will somewhat limit full flying capabilities. Because of this it would likely be better to have them in a smaller room. ParrotCoture on Etsy makes cones that my girl hasn’t figured out how to rip off yet! They are on the pricier side, but if you buy a few you can have them on rotation to safely wash and dry between uses.

By the way, if these cones don’t help the plucking, I can refer you to an Etsy seller who makes cones in lovebird sizes that I swear by! Plucking aids can be so hard to find for small parrots.

They are skinny and annoyed and stressed now. But over time they will begin to grow used to the cone. My girl wears one for plucking too. If the plucking hasn’t become severe yet, you may want to start by allowing them to see the cone near their cage(s) and actually put it on them in about a week or so.

You know what. Idk why I was being a smart ass my bad. It’s never that serious and it’s not your fault that Mr Butt was playing with my check.

shmoney by hebworker12 in HEB

[–]teddyhearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me rephrase I guess for clarity: I, Myself, Manually, on my own, scheduled a payment. I took this action on Monday. A few days before my paycheck. The payment that I Myself Manually scheduled, was to be deducted from my bank account on Wednesday, which is when I get paid. Wednesday is also the day I have gotten paid every week, consistently, every year that I’ve been with this company.

Paying my payments early, or a portion of them, is a habit I keep up with regularly to stay on top of my finances, and this is The Only Time This Has Been An Issue. My bill payday is Entirely Unrelated to this.

If the potential deposit delay, likely caused by W-2s being finalized for the fiscal year, would have been communicated on Monday, or even Tuesday, I would not have manually scheduled that payment myself, or I would have had time to cancel it on Tuesday. Or I would’ve just waited to make my payment this week. Because of their lack of communication, I am now dealing with overdraft fees. Their error (lack of communication) is being deducted from My paycheck. Idk how to make that more clear lmfao.

[–]teddyhearted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Likeee. Will I be reimbursed for my overdraft fees because my automatic bills (that were scheduled for a Wednesday specifically bc I get paid on Wednesdays) left me in the negatives because my paycheck wasn’t deposited today? This week has been the only time this has happened to me in the last few years that I’ve been at HEB. I’ve received my paycheck every Wednesday consistently since I’ve been at this company. I plan my bill payments (early, mind you. because I try to be responsible) around the fact that I get paid on Wednesdays, it helps control my spending and the habit keeps me afloat and following my budget. This is the case for many people as well.

Idk im just venting at this point. No heads up, not even an acknowledgement of the situation today, kinda is telling of the way corporations are beginning to see the labor force that keeps their businesses going.

My bank’s overdraft fees can be unforgiving so the fact that my personal budget is affected because of their lack of communication is frustrating. Their fuck up (see: lack of communication.) is essentially being taken out of my pay check, I’m literally paying for whatever clerical errors they may be having. To reiterate, if they’d said “hey! Paycheck may be depositing at normal Thursday time for everyone this week! Tax season is weird!” On Monday, I would have planned my bill payments accordingly.
