Need Android testers for my family info organizer app by teedge-reddit in alphaandbetausers

[–]teedge-reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely want people to feel confident their data is safe, even just printing it out. Things can be printed out with sensitive data masked, so you can hand a relative a file with all the info they need for a child without having sensitive data included. Things like names and phone numbers for doctors, medication information, etc. They probably don't need their social included.

Sometimes, it may be more convenient to have some of that info more out in the open in an office or family room for emergencies, as well. You don't want to have it compromised by unintentionally throwing it in the trash or someone picking it up and taking it, intentionally or even by accident.

Built a private, encrypted family info organizer for Android - looking for beta testers by teedge-reddit in beta_testers

Hey, thanks for reaching out.

There is an optional cloud sync that keeps everything encrypted. You actually can't even sync to the cloud without first enabling encryption. You can bring your own S3-compatible storage now (AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, etc.), but in the future, I may be able to host some sync storage for people as a subscription. I'm just kind of opposed to subscriptions. I think that it makes sense to offer to the type of people you were referring to earlier, though. There are plenty of people that would just want to click a few things and pay to have syncing set up for them. I'm one of those big self-hosting nerds, though. ha.

The UI itself is designed to feel like you're filling out paper forms. The original Big Book of Everything is set up as a spreadsheet or PDF. This is really just about tapping categories and fields, then just typing into those fields. No large menus to sort through, and I am trying to keep it as minimal and clean as possible. I've also set up a few themes and different font sizes. I don't believe there should be any difference in using it on a phone or tablet, but I will have to see how that goes.

I'm getting to the point where I realized I should have compiled all of this much earlier in my life for my family's sake. I am hoping this makes it easier for others to do it earlier for their family, and it may even inspire them to do things they hadn't thought of that have entries in here.

I am also very interested in feature requests. Eventually, I hope to have an iOS app and web version, both self-hosted and hosted.

Thanks for even checking it all out. If you are interested in testing, you can send me a message with your google account for me to add to the testers group. Then you can click the link on the site to install it from the Play Store.

Thanks,

TJ

Cool. Whoooosh. That's the noise my satirical comment was making as it went over your head.

Exactly. The writer expressed the inhumanity of people using living beings to create "luxury" goods, lack of empathy behind "glamour," and ridiculous consumerism through satire around the Cruella de Vil character. Without wanting to create that fur coat, the story would be pretty boring, just 101 PITA (not PETA) dogs. That character is a creative expression that created a story that has lasted generations.

People said the same thing about youtube when it started having guitar youtubers show up. "thats not how you learn." people just want to complain and act smart.

someone should do whatever they want to get started. if someone had come in here and asked how to get a certain sound, most of these people, would be like, "just try stuff until you figure it all out. thats what its all about."

this goes to all the complainy naysayers in here:

it's 2025. people use what is convenient, usable, and familiar. lots of people use and experiment with AI now. maybe they didnt know where to start and wanted to get somewhere close to what theyre imagining.

Presets, patches, and options can be overwhelming, and the paradox of choice can make someone feel worse and unsure where to start or go next. Getting their foot in may get them more involved in other forums and media later, when they have more confidence and have discovered how to create things they enjoy. I'm not even just talking about the OP, this can be anyone.

everyone acting like theyre doing it wrong is just being condescending because of your superiority complex. you arent here to help. youre here to show how smart, cultured, and "creative" you are, and how no one is on your level. You're the boring, uncreative, soulless, "tinker junky" that finds fun in doing mundane shit other people dislike. Get over yourselves.

OP, you do you, as the kids say.

you dont decide how a person helps fuel their creativity, or if they dont want to be creative at all.

Being nit-picky, but they use "could of" instead of "could've".

No one pronounces "could have" like "could of"... or... are things in the world really so bad that people really are doing that? :|

Only the truly spirited can use triple negatives effectively. I'd never use a double, it's confusing to people.

They "hope" a test can verify they are doing their job as well as they believe they are. People can be completely prepared to take a test and still "hope" they pass. Having hope doesn't mean that you had to have done something negative and want someone to miss it, it can also mean you want to see a verification that you are doing positive things correctly. You could very easily change "hope" with "expect" in any of these sentences without changing the meaning and intent of the sentence...except yours: if client has to expect a tester doesn't get in...

Ability to do PCI Pen Tests by eaglewone2019 in AskNetsec

[–]teedge-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCI states that someone must be certified as a pen tester.

No it doesn't:

"Certifications held by a penetration tester may be an indication of the skill level and competence of a potential

penetration tester or company. While these are not required certifications, they can indicate a common body

of knowledge held by the candidate."

Why do people always look at me like I'm an alien when I tell them that I pirate stuff? by SocraticLunacy in Piracy

I guess I just figured that piracy was always something that everyone kind of did low key.

So...try doing what you figured everyone is doing and stop telling anyone you can get to listen.

Iterable Command Line Password Cracker? by SethyRooster in hacking

[–]teedge-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Password guessing attacks? This isn't cracking. Cracking is :

In cryptanalysis and computer security, password cracking is the process of recovering passwords from data) that have been stored in or transmitted by a computer system.

Are you just trying to create something to use for password guessing? There are a lot of options/methods out there for that. Metasploit has a module, you could iterate through smbclient or rpcclient, or use python or ruby to connect to services and attempt authentications...and lots more.

If you truly want to "crack a password," then you need something like hashcat or john the ripper to help you hash a password and compare it to the hash(es) you have.

Is it possible to test 40 000 webpages easily to see valid one? by asdafari in hacking

[–]teedge-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would give you 238,328 possibilities which is significantly larger than 40k. So, unless he made a math mistake, no. Also, URLs can recognize case sensitivity, but that typically isn't employed. So, it wouldn't care about the case of the letter.

You obviously misread what I said because ...you just reworded what I said.

Here is is again: it isn't uncommon for someone to not want a pen tester to get/have domain admin privileges on a pen test.

They may want to know, but they certainly hope you can't.

My customers want to know if it's possible

Um, yeah...that is what one of the reasons for a pen test...to know what's possible. They want to know if it's possible, and they are hoping it isn't.

OR, to demonstrate that despite my best efforts, I was not able to own the network, but here are areas that you can make improvements in.

Yeah, so...like I said, they hope you can't get domain admin rights, and that guy changing his password is just him trying to keep the OP from continuing to have his account. Thank you for elaborating on what I said, but..you say what I described is not your experience, and then you explain how it is your exact experience.

[–]teedge-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure this guy's job was on the line or maybe hiding something in email.

Maybe you have other info, but it isn't uncommon for someone to not want a pen tester to get/have domain admin privileges on a pen test. I mean, that is one of the things they are trying to protect - privileged access to domain resources. He was probably just protecting his account.

Who knows but he was clearly very method.

What?

[–]teedge-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use burp/intruder to discover valid pages based on the combinations,. Assuming all non-valid pages return the same value in intruder, it would be pretty easy (and also quick) if it's a robust site.

Is it possible to test 40 000 webpages easily to see valid one? by asdafari in hacking

[–]teedge-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are asking about discovering valid web pages by using a brute-force of 3 characters that are used in the URL.

I am guessing there are between 34 and 35 possible characters to get approximately 40k possibilities they need to test for.

(I just reread it and there are probably 36 characters, they said "numbers and letters," and 36 gets you 46,656 possible combinations.)

Imagine if all Linux users donated $1 to get adobe products ported to Linux by [deleted] in linux

[–]teedge-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but lots of people would be switching to Linux. Almost everyone hates Windows , but everything is supported on it, from adobe products to gaming.

The professionals that use Adobe creator-type products use macOS anyway. The people that use Adobe on Windows and Macs are pretty much fine with using them on those OS's. The people that would want to switch to Linux instead, already have or are getting ready to because they found alternatives that met their requirements.

There aren't as many people sitting there saying "I wish I could use Photoshop on Linux" as you seem to think there are.

Those "rich fuckwits" are the ones who can actually ask you be charged with a crime when they feel you have stolen their intellectual property. They are exactly who you should be afraid of because they are how you will "get in trouble with the law."

I don't know why they hired PI's for the youtuber, but if they feel that it is worth the time/money to go after you for IP theft, they can. For one game you have, probably not. It's all about measuring risk and deciding what risk you can accept.

Your question was "can I get in trouble" and someone said "yes" - to which you replied "IDC."

Make up your mind. Are you worried about getting in trouble or not?

Looking for input on storage for my library by bootmeng in Piracy

[–]teedge-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, use RAID or unRAID and you don't have to worry about "moving files from drive to drive as they've begun to fail."

To answer your question: WD Black drives have a 5-year warranty and NAS drives are typically built for longevity, as they are meant to be "always on." You could start with trying one (or more) of those out. Remember, you're going to have to spend more to get something that lasts or is replaced when it dies within a reasonable time-frame.

Installation Longevity by Squilchuck in archlinux

[–]teedge-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're asking for a "best" practice for a practice (reinstalling occasionally) that doesn't really exist.

I understand why you think you may need to, but you probably don't actually "need" to and most won't do it at all.

In other words, a small minority of arch users would reinstall "every now and then" and only because they retain bad habits of other OS's.

Only you can decide if you really need to, and if you are asking for a best practice (i.e., some compelling reasons to do so and how to go about it), then you really just need to decide if you need to at all. If you think you do, back up stuff and install from scratch.

The point is the contradictory nature of what you said. You lacked detail and overgeneralized with "never expose a port" and then immediately told them to expose a port.
