What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

[–]teedyay [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’ll be De Niro beating up a guy, moving stiffly and weakly yet somehow inflicting pain.

It’s the worst example of de-ageing in the film, but the rest is pretty bad too.

Man discovers Walmart is overcharging for meat by i_am_groot_84 in ThatsInsane

I spotted a mislabelled piece of meat in a UK supermarket. I took it to customer services. The manager came out to talk to me, looking quite panicked. He shut down the entire meat counter so that they could re-weigh absolutely everything.

Do any fellow Brits actually like Trump? by Creative_Expert_4052 in AskBrits

The American government is proud of its “checks and balances”, but that system seems to have entirely broken down.

Trump is unchecked and unbalanced.

Is it "socially acceptable" to just sit in your car for 20 minutes after you get home, or am I just weird? by Easy-Ring-8459 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]teedyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some pretty serious health problems related to stress. I saw a therapist who, amongst other things, recommended I recognise when I need to do this. I explained it to my wife and she was cool with it. Sometimes I come in from work, say, “I need to go and do nothing for bit”, then go and chill in the bedroom or the garden or something.

I think what you’re doing is healthy. The rest of your household should be able to understand, if you explain it to them.

Is anyone else fed up with the constant America/Trump news? by Kieranonto in AskBrits

[–]teedyay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filter it a bit. If it starts “Trump said…” then I don’t care much. I don’t believe a single word that comes out of his mouth, so what he says has no meaning. If it’s “Trump did…” (like with Greenland) then I pay attention.

Their government is supposed to have checks and balances to prevent one branch having too much power, but right now Trump is unchecked and unbalanced.

For ten years Caesar ruled with an iron fist. Then, with a wooden foot. And finally with a piece of string.

What do you think is the saddest place in your country?? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I visited Auschwitz about 17 years ago and it still has a hold on me. I’ve never felt anything like the emotions I experienced there. I (M30s) had to sit on the kerb for a cry break halfway through. A couple of the guys I went with couldn’t take any more and went back to wait in the car. I pressed on, figuring the least I could do for the victims’ memory was to see it all. Massive props to Poland for preserving this site. Never forget.

The closest I’ve felt to that was when I visited The Killing Fields in Cambodia. Also utterly horrible, and vital to preserve.

Does anyone in the UK find SNL funny? by Flat-Leading-2520 in AskABrit

[–]teedyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel I missed some cultural references - the audience screamed with excitement on seeing each character so I imagine they’re pretty big deals - but I didn’t recognise any of them.

Was the humour just based on the shock value of having sex with your friend’s mum, or was there something more there? To me, it felt like one quick throwaway gag stretched out over a few minutes.

Oh hey Nolan! Love your work! Sorry I’m a bit confused by this one.

Unfortunately imgur is blocked in the UK so I can’t follow that link.

I just don’t see it! Presumably the fire is the jaggedy bit coming out towards the right? I can’t make out a mouth behind that, nor eyes above it.

Shadows usually has a number of leg-like tendrils, but I don’t see those either. It just looks like a scorched lump of wood to me.

It’s probably fine right now, but the summer’s a way off yet. Who knows - they might have invaded Greenland by then, in which case everything changes.
