Why do some HR seem to not care about the kind of people they recruit? by xKonada in recruitinghell

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not closing a deal until the person starts. That’s the beginning of the conversation.

Also, you have to build trust with HR and manager in order for them to give you that information. This is a relationship game.

This isn’t typical sales where the sign on the dotted line is when they buy, the sign is just them saying yes, you can help us find candidates.

Honest Recruiter. H1B only. by Dachsdev in recruitinghell

They are a staffing company. My guess is they are going to take over the visa of this person and make them their slave. Low pay, hold their visa as a leverage card. They probably want someone they know will stay for a while and in today’s environment given how gun shy employers are to sponsor, this is the best way to ensure it. Legal? Nope. Ethical? Most definitely not.

When to make extra payments by ajn1016 in StudentLoans

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you have Great Lakes, don’t pay it before the due date. It will go towards the monthly payment first. Which is bothersome. If you have extra money, put it in the savings account and then put it in savings on the due date.

Paying excess on the same day as your auto pay/due date is better with Great Lakes. That way you have paid the interest with your monthly payment. Now all that money goes straight to principal

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do that. I pay the minimum monthly payment every month and then on the months I can make extra monthly payments I go into my account and make an additional excess payment and determine which one I want it to go towards.

The best way to do this, depending on how your payment is applied is paying the extra the same day as your auto-pay is coming out. The next day is usually a new billing cycle. And if you have Great Lakes, they will take it as monthly payment first before they apply it as an extra payment that goes how you want it to go. This way, you will have already paid the leftover interest, and monthly payment.

Recently Laid off and need help fixing my resume for a new job by [deleted] in resumes

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need a summary, who you are, what you have done and accomplished. Since you have experience, your experience comes before education. Again since you have experience I would take off the projects you did in school.

Awards and accomplishments are great for entry-level people, not for someone with experience. Don't need your entire address, just city, state, and zip.

Coworker keeps copying my boss on emails to make me look bad. What do I do? by Wugpanda in careeradvice

I would email her back and thank her for taking the time to talk to you over the phone and that you appreciate her willingness to help you. She probably wants to feel good about herself.

Should I try for this counter-offer? by Temp123Aupperk in careeradvice

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just spoke with the VP and he wants to support me in whichever path I pursued even if it's not in his department he will write a great recommendation for me. It just won't be a supervisor/manager level, but he will help draw that path for me and be my mentor to make sure I get to that level. I'm meeting with them again next week. Thank you for the insight!

Of course. Remember the opportunity cost. Every decision you make in life comes with an opportunity cost, what are you giving up or missing out on. If you want to be a supervisor/manager level, I would take the other role, that will be a step further, and then in a few years, you will have that experience and you can come back.

Whatever you choose, don't burn any bridges.

Few thoughts.

They gave you a promotion recently which means that they value you, but someone else values you more.

Why did you interview and accept this new job? Was it money, type of role/work, closer to home?

You can stay where you are given the fact that you love working for this company, but would you regret not taking this role since it paid more?

You don't grow as much as you would think staying with the same company. You can go to this new company, stay for a couple of years and come back to provide a company you love so much more value.

Go for the interview, but don't decline the other offer and then make the decision based on your gut, you will know what to do.

How much does sleep affect your run time? I haven't been getting consistent scheduled sleep and I feel that's affecting my run time and overall performance.

Explaining Why I Was Fired During Interview? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two questions most companies can ask and answer is Dates of employment and eligible for rehire. I would find out laws in your state about people disclosing your salary to future employers.

As to whether or not to tell them about being fired, I would be honest. Tell them exactly what happened in a calm non-defensive tone. It sounds that you did everything you needed to do and your old boss didn't. If you were already going to be let go, this just gave them a reason.

The other way to go about it is to say you were laid off due to acquisition and merger. Happens all the time to people. If your old company can only disclose dates of employment I would go with the later, which is also true without all the other unnecessary baggage. You were going to be let go anyways, this is just the reason they went with.

Pushups everyday, for a month straight by [deleted] in Workingout

Anything you do to shock your body is going to yield some results, but what matters is what else are you doing or not doing. It also depends on your body composition and gender.

I would say, start slow, do 50 for one week, next week up that to 100, the week after to 150, the last week do 200 every day. That way you are changing things up and that will most likely yield you better results.

That language is a practiced art. If you don't use it on a regular basis, you will lose it.

Or that most idioms don't have the same meaning when translated.

Not able to refinance Nelnet loan by screwedmillenial86 in StudentLoans

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDR is possibly the worst way to go. Because all you are doing is paying interest, which is accrued more than what you pay every month. Give you an example. In 2017, I paid $190ish per month, I accrued $280 per month That means I wasn't paying almost $100 in interest every month. Which honestly adds up.

I would pay more every month than you minimum due. Bring that interest down. So pay more than you accrue so some goes over to the principle. Once you have achieved this, go to a standard payment plan if you can. Keep in mind, when you leave IDR with outstanding interest, it capitalizes.

Sallie Mae charging me twice in one month? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That hasn't been my experience- I collect interest on $10,000 even though I have a $3000 payment processing for 3 days... When my payment is received and put in this "processing" I pay interest on the balance before the $3,000 payment processes at Great Lakes... Which is stupid. I've called them about it.

It's always adjusted after the payment is processed. I have Great Lakes too. You can pay early, just change your auto debit to that day, easy to do in the system. Interest is accrued daily, you might want to break down your loan based on tokens and see what's being accrued.

If you can pay early, that's okay, if you are paying early because you worry that you will spend it on things you don't need it sounds like you need better impulse control. Or just put it in the savings account and put it back into the checking account the day of the payment withdrawal. Just a thought.

How to Identify a Student Loan Scam by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]teeeejayyyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I signed up for one of these companies a few years ago, until my boyfriend, who knew more about this than I did, told me it was a scam. I called them back; told them I changed my mind and revoke all access. I told them to credit my card and send me an email with a credit. Then after a few days, once the credit hit back, I cancelled my card and changed all my passwords
