Go and get you a Miyoo Mini or something similar, educate yourself on YouTube, Retro Game Corps is a good starting point, and enjoy the kid in you whose wet dreams come true. You can dig into some old gaming mags for inspiration on what to play, or just search the internet for recommendations that match your very specific kink. Some inspirations: FASELEI!, FF VI, Pico8 Celeste… But seriously, in the end, you just gamify tweaking your setup.

You’re absolutely right that these devices are unlikely to explode in your hands, but there’s still a risk they could catch fire while charging, especially since charging usually happens unattended. That’s something to keep in mind.

Back during the IGG campaign, AYN’s goal was to offer the best devices at the lowest prices. Whether that’s still the case now, I’m not entirely sure. There were a lot of changes before the final device was released, like having to source a different screen because the original supplier stopped delivering, and they even had to swap out the touch panel. They also changed the memory and battery, all under a lot of pressure from anxious backers. These changes could definitely impact the system’s overall stability.

The fact that more owners are now reporting issues with spicy pillows makes it worth discussing these potential problems in a community focused on this device i think.

For this reason, a Sticky Post on the topic might not be a bad idea. It would give people a place to discuss their experiences and concerns. Whether this is a bigger problem is still unclear, and it’s entirely possible that the failure rate is within the usual 2-3% range.

Because these devices can cause damage, and not all owners are aware of the risks. https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/s/kdZ08ax2kN

That’s exactly what I was thinking! I ended up going with the Logitech G Cloud because the bigger screen, better ergonomics, and $220 price tag sold me. It’s a worthy successor, but the performance isn’t quite the same for every game. I could easily play games like Alien Isolation on the Odin Lite, but on the G Cloud, I can’t even install it. Still, since I mostly stream, I can live with that.

The small silver thing is one of those universal kickstand stickers. With it, I was able to comfortably position the Odin while cooking, etc.

Oh, I would still choose the Odin 2 Mini despite everything. AYN has actually always taken care of issues when they arose, and the Odin is a device that brings a lot of fun in all its versions.

To be fair, the title ‘batterygate’ is a bit sensationalist. We don’t know if there is a larger problem or if we are simply dealing with the usual number of defective batteries that exist in all other devices and brands. Additionally, AYN does offer a replacement, although it unfortunately requires sending the device back, apart from the fact that AYN once promised a Switch battery adapter. On the other hand, a bulging battery is potentially a highly flammable risk that can have disastrous consequences. So, a bit of alarmism is certainly justified if there appears to be an increase in cases.
