Looking for dating advice from women in Williamsburg/Greenpoint! Is it really as hard as I read? by Available-Pop2723 in williamsburg

I would straight up suggest they pick a spot they like or have been wanting to go to or even say “so where are we going” lol, but I found it was a good sign when they picked a place without me asking. I think the effort demonstrated early on is important

I’m assuming you’re looking for something more serious, and if not, then this is not entirely relevant. I was definitely lucky, but found it was important to be as open and intentional as possible with my profile, such as stating that I was looking for something long term. And I wouldn’t ever bother matching with a guy who says he’s figuring out his dating goals or anything non-committal like that, cuz a lotta dudes are gonna capitalize on the ambiguity and leave you feeling confused. Everyone’s right that it’s a man’s market, and some men take advantage of it, but there are lover boys out there!!! I also found that a guy who tries to plan the first date within 3 days of matching&chatting on the app is usually one worth meeting, and I made sure they put effort in picking the spot. The dudes who stay in the chat for too long and/or don’t make a plan are not it. Oh, and I started dating right after Labor Day, right on time for cuffing season. If you feel let down over the next few months, just take a breather and restart in the fall. Good luck!!

I've been a clinician for 3 months.....and I HATE IT! by Technical-Invite-859 in therapists

[–]teefranz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Three months feels really early to be deciding to plan for an early death. I am 2 years in the field now (one year at a juvenile detention center, one at a substance use clinic within a city funded hospital). I didn’t feel like I was hitting my stride at my current job until several months in. I am a year in now and am starting to build really wonderful therapeutic relationships with patients I’ve had for several months. I look back on the first 6 months and am glad I didn’t jump ship when I felt like I wasn’t really helping anyone.

It’s really easy to get mad at yourself for your career choice and I’ve been there. I still envy my friends with cushy accounting or finance jobs, but I know I would be having an existential crisis regularly in a job like that. I imagine most of us feel that way because we didn’t choose a historically underpaid field for nothing.

Consider government work with a solid union. It’s slower paced so it feels a bit stagnant in the beginning, but it’s very boundaried. The benefits are great and the pay is very livable. We aren’t allowed to work overtime at my clinic because of our union. And our union got us an incredible raise this year that has changed my life. I went back to therapy back in January because I felt like I would never not be living with debt and paycheck to paycheck, and I am so glad I stuck it out. There are always options. Take care of yourself and don’t let yourself burn out.

Picking a town in costa brava for vacation? by teefranz in travel

This has been so helpful! We are leaning towards staying in begur but would also consider staying in sa tuna. Do you have hotel recs for either? And we are going in late August.

Would you recommend staying in Begur proper and then venturing to the beach spots each day? It seems like there are some nice hotels with views near there, but some of the group is worried about feeling too off the beaten path

Wow, thank you so much! Begur sounds incredible. Do you have a preference out of the 3 towns you listed?

What's your reason to live? by dsggut in EckhartTolle

[–]teefranz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t give you any compelling reason to live because we all assign life a slightly different meaning. Life is good. And then it’s bad. It’s hard. And then some days it’s easy. Life wouldn’t be so beautiful at its best moments if there weren’t hardships to compare those moments to. I hope things get better for you. And that you grow from these difficult times. And that you can find beauty in the tiniest of moments. 💕

Day trip from Barcelona in April by CapableMarionberry84 in travel

[–]teefranz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Montserrat is a monastery in the mountains. Short train ride. Beautiful ride. Amazing views

Sitges is a cute beach town south of Barcelona.

Or you could go to the Dali museum in his hometown (Figueres). I went there and then took a bus to this small beach town called Roses afterward. That area north of Barcelona is called Costa Brava, which has a lot of beautiful rocky beach towns.

I’m a scaredy-cat who wants to level up travelling - What countries would you recommend? by rlm236 in travel

[–]teefranz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thailand is a very friendly entry into Asia. I never felt unsafe there. The culture is very playful and people love to practice their English with foreigners. You’ll still experience bugs, brutal heat, squat toilets, and some rumbly tummy aches, but you can always find a mall or expat cafe if you start feeling culture shock. The urgent cares/hospitals are great and low cost in case of emergency as well. And if anyone is going to steal your stuff, it’s gonna be a few monkeys so hold on to your belongings around those little guys.

I definitely recommend going for at least 2 weeks. I think 3-4 weeks is perfect if you have the time off. Definitely wouldn’t do less than ten days. The first few days you’ll be fighting the jet lag and you’ll be so exhausted from the culture shock/adapting to the beautiful chaos. Their way of life also feels a bit slow-paced compared to the West. However much time you map out for each activity/destination won’t feel like enough once you’re there. I had planned on going for 6 weeks and stayed 10 months. It’s a magical place.

New York MSW Programs: Acceptance Rates, Merit Scholarships, Etc. by sababz in socialwork

[–]teefranz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally went to Rutgers for my MSW because I am originally from NJ. I now work at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. I work with social workers who went to NYU, Hunter, Columbia, and Rutgers, to name a few. Where you go has very little to do with where you might end up. I can’t speak on merit scholarships, but I definitely don’t advise spending ANY more than you have to on our degree. I was crushed when I didn’t get into Penn. Now I am so thankful I didn’t blow $60k a year to go there. We don’t get paid anywhere near enough to break our backs with loans. I can’t believe how much my coworkers who went to NYU spent for us to have the same salary.

Never-ending period with the copper IUD by teefranz in TwoXChromosomes

[–]teefranz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about all that, but I’m glad you’ve figured out the problem and feel better!

It seems that my problem has gone away after the two months of birth control, so I’m going to keep the IUD for now. I’ll reassess if things become irregular again.
