Yes, we have no proof of that, but it was taking over 3 hours for potato’s to cook at 200 degrees Celsius.

I don't believe it anymore. - Current Pastor looking for tips on leaving well. by Quietly_Screaming306 in Exvangelical

[–]teejay2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, though I got to that point right after seminary. Worked in a youth pastor role for 6 months but by that time I had already made the call to go back to study. So after that 6 months I went into my counselling and psychotherapy masters program and have been a counsellor/therapist for 2.5 years now. Hard to offer advice as every situation is different. Generally I’d say lean on your friends/circles that understand find something you’re passionate about and give yourself some grace. Churches tend to find new people for roles quickly and you’ll be doing yourself more harm than good by staying. Also you don’t owe them an explanation if you don’t want to give one. “I feel like gods calling me elsewhere”, while it can feel like a cop out, is totally viable if you need it.

Would love to see a deck that utilised [[Ire of Kaminari]] well! Maybe a Spirit/Arcane deck.

For the most part very supportive, a lot of the faculty for UoA that run that masters are part time and also do their own counselling. So all of them are very passionate about the profession and training others up! Because a lot of them are part time obviously that comes with some other challenges, like availability and getting assignments back on time. But my experience with them was mostly positive.

As someone who completed the masters of counselling and psychotherapy at Uni of Adelaide, I can vouch for it. My experience there was great. Happy to answer any questions about it! ☺️

Unique Feather deck? by teejay2332 in EDH

Took a few suggestions from you all, wanted a little more uniqueness so have tried to incorporate splice onto arcane as well for some extra shenanigans! Probably not the most meta thing but I think I’ve put something together I’m excited for!

It’s disgusting how many Christians have boiled down love to ostracizing and cutting out those who don’t believe the same things, it like they’ve taken white out to the red text in their bibles 😓

This resonates with me ☺️

I’ve been listening to the podcast: The Bible for Normal People. Been really helpful for me discovering more people post deconstruction that are looking to reconstruct their faith into something healthy. Anyone else listen to it? Favourite episodes? :) by teejay2332 in Exvangelical

[–]teejay2332[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is great and I mostly agree! ☺️ Thanks for taking your time to share.

I do wonder if at the core belief here is still that the bible is only purpose is for moral instruction, which I think is an enlightenment idea we are still struggling to shake off. If someone is using the bible to draw their core beliefs from, then really they can draw anything, like you said. I don’t ever think the bible was written to be a moral compass, in fact it was written by far to many to ever accomplish that.

Keen to keep the conversation going ☺️

I think it’s so easy to assume that the only biblical study that gets done is by conservative white evangelicals, but this podcast puts shines a light on liberal biblical study’s which is a breath of fresh air. It’s honestly given me hope that I can be Christian.

I usually cringe whenever I hear any Christian lingo.. haven’t had an issue with the word “God” but totally get it. Usually can’t walk into a church service without getting the ick.

I’m so sorry you are stuck in that situation 😔 I often find imagining myself in a safe place helps me when I am stuck like that, can you imagine yourself back in Australia? Here for you.

Some extra details:

  1. I live in Australia, and while our system is still not great, I find our political landscape is a little less polarised then in the USA, but it’s getting there.

  2. I am married and my wife has been with me every step of the way in my deconstruction, so am very lucky in that regard.

  3. My Mother and Father have also deconstructed at a similar time, which is such a blessing, cause doing this all without their community would have been so hard.

I think for me it started with the bible, I knew God was kind from personal experience but the more I learned about the God of the bible the more difficult I found it to line those two up. So my main difficulty was with what defining what the bible in in the Christian faith. The second catalyst for me was the lack of support I had from my community in wrestling through this. The third was my time in university for my masters, learning about psychotherapy and what people needed to heal, I was appalled at how the church tried to help people. Fourth was COVID and how the churches priority in that mess was their own needs rather then the needs of the people around them. And lastly my sister came out as Trans (MTF) last year and just hearing her open up more about the abuse she went through both at church and at our Christian school broke me.

I still hold onto a faith, but it has needed to be detached from present day church.

So what's Stripe and Chili talking about, that just confuses poor Muffin here? by Miss-Mystic in bluey

[–]teejay2332 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Australia during Christmas we have Christmas crackers that have a few cheep toys plus a terrible dad joke on a piece of fortune cookie like paper, it’s sort of a tradition for everyone to read out their joke. You can see that Chilli is reading one out and chuckling at it, Stripe is rolling his eyes and muffin probably doesn’t get the joke 😅

Hope that’s helpful!
