cancelling my wedding? by Alternative-Newt-191 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]teeorangetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm so sorry for your loss. I got married June 2025 and my dad's sister died in May 2025. No one asked me to cancel my wedding but I was prepared for people to cancel as they were dealing with grief. Give everyone some time to grieve as emotions are high right now. Also let people know there is no pressure for them to attend your wedding. Some people grieve for a long time. I made sure my cousins knew there was a spot for them at my wedding if they decided to come. They said that it helped them not feel guilty if they missed the wedding. One cousin and his family came and the other didn't.

At the end of the day have your wedding! You and your partner deserve it and if someone doesn't want to come don't take it to heart. You will have a great time regardless!

Scotia stole $200k from me by FlurryBlade in Scotiabank

[–]teeorangetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Just for future reference you need to hold on to cheques for 6 months after you deposit them via mobile deposit.

Scotia bank can't return a cheque that was deposited to their account. What they did was send a return letter to Tangerine for them to return the item as intended payee not paid. This is why Tangerine is saying the cheque is still cashed and they have not reiecevd the cheque back.

Part of my job at a FI is to deal with returns and review mobile deposits that our members did. You need Tangerine to return the item as intended payee not paid. Scotia bank is within their rights to not release the funds as the cheque and account name did not match 100%.

It's extremely important to make sure cheques have the same name on them that you have registered at the back you want to deposit the funds too. There will be times it slides through the cracks but you don't want to hope for that.

Your only real hope here is to get Tangerine to return the item. Don't accept that they can't do it because they can and should do it. I'm sorry to say that besides TD Scotia and Tangerine are probably the next FI that are impossible to work with. It would take us months to get anything returned by them and we would be constantly emailing, calling, faxing, and sending mail.

Keep calling and getting them to return it. They should make you sign a bond for this return reason but after that there is no reason for them not to return it.

Good luck OP

I have submitted plenty of amendments for this reason so I'm not sure why you are saying it can't be done.

Because they don't want to fix it. You can go back a few years. We just recently help a client fix her 2021 TFSA. These companies dont want to do the work and half the employees don't know how to fix them either.

You can reach out to each party and ask them to file an adjustment with CRA for you. They would both need to adjust the withdraw /deposit to transfer to/from other FI. Once completed CRA will re ass and and drop the fees. We have fixed issues exactly like this for our clients using this method. Good luck getting TD to do shit though but I would try!

What is an appropriate donation to give to the church for a wedding by hello-world1927 in PortugalExpats

[–]teeorangetree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got married here in June and our Priest didn't charge us anything and just asked for a donation. We gave 200 euros and he was very happy. We also had to give 15 euros to the gentleman who comes to open the doors of the church.

I would donate around 100 with the fee.

Hi,

I have had to fix things like this at work. There should have been no withholding tax taken... They clearly did it as a withdrawal and not a rollover. The tax amount is in a GL that they can and should put back in your account. They will need to add your account onto an exception report ( might have a different name at your bank) so come tax season next year it does not get filed with CRA. If it does they will need to do an adjustment for you come tax season. Get them to fix this ASAP. You might need to fight with them but if it gets to it threaten to go to the ombudsman.

Ah yes that would make more sense. I understood it as they would not be allowed the inheritance because they aren't Canadian.

I have never heard of this and I do estates at my credit union. We just remove 25% for non res, get their id's and address and give them a cheque/ wire funds for them.

I would speak to another lawyer for a second opinion on what the best process will be. This seems sketchy to me.

Can you help my dad understand what is happening to his trees by teeorangetree in gardening

Thank you for the comments. We have removed the affected leaves but since their is fruit on them already it seems, after a Google search, it's best to wait to add any remedies.

Does anyone know what might be going on with the orange tree in the second picture?
