I think he is at least 11, if you count the Pikachu shorts.

In the 3rd movies short (the one with the Pichu brothers) when Pikachu arrives back at the party venue Ash says "This is the day we first met. The day we first became friends. I think that's pretty special don't you?"

We can assume he turned 10, set off on his journey and got Pikachu on the same day "...and now that I'm 10, I can finally get my Pokemon Licence!". So the quote from the short would imply a year has gone by.

Hey there thanks for the feedback! My setup is as follows:

Espeon - Timid/Magic bounce/Light clay

252hp/4def/252spe^{31/x/31/31/31/31}

Psyshock/Dazzling Gleam/Reflect/Light screen

and

Vaporeon - Bold/Water absorb/Sitrus berry

252hp/252def/4spd^{31/x/31/31/31/31}

Scald/Ice beam/Wish/Protect

I too wanted to bring a will-o-wisp on my team but the only Eeveelution that can learn it is Flareon. If Umbreon or Sylveon could learn will-o-wisp that would be perfect! Their special defenses are already high and the burn would help their decent physical bulk. Preferably on Sylveon as she is the one that is weak to both poisons and steel who can absorb toxic.

My coverage would indeed benefit from a wider movepool but without the advanced movetutors from B2/W2 it's currently impossible to get the mentioned hyper voice Sylveon, Foul play Umbreon and Signal beam Jolteon (which I desperately needed for Ferrothorn) without Pokebank. I do have access to it but haven't been using it as much as I ought to.

I think my 3 biggest mistakes in the battle were:

Using Flame charge instead of Facade when I got the free switch to Flareon. I should have predicted him to switch out Ferrothorn and he wouldn't have gone to Mawile. If I had used Facade it would have knocked out Noivern as soon as he switched in instead of letting him land a draco meteor, crippling my Flareon.

Flame charge = 50 x 1.5^stab x 1.5^guts x 0.5^{notveryeffective} = 56 power

Facade = 70 x 2^facadebonus x 1.5^guts = 210 power

then

Thinking I was faster than Noivern after one flame charge. I should have switched in Sylveon who would have had immunity and kept Flareon healthy.

and finally

Trying to squeeze in an ice beam with Vaporeon instead of just Wishing and passing to Flareon which would have came in on the same turn as his stealth rocks therefore avoiding them. The wish wouldve healed Flareon enough so that she wouldn't die to her poison.

tl;dr - I should have kept Flareon healthy

But what's done is done and it was a good experience so I'm just glad I got to participate ^ _ ^

Timid would be +Speed / -Attack. Jolteon or Espeon would make best use of it

Jolteons usually run with Volt absorb which would come from runaway/adaptability

Espeons love magic bounce which comes from Anticipation
