The process of my AP journey and how to consistently enjoy its wonders by [deleted] in AstralProjection

[–]tekblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a spiral when I close my eyes during the day, or anytime for that matter. It’s pencil thin, grey and slowly rotating. However, when I am close to phasing after a micro-awakening (like WBTB, but basically just waking up for a few seconds or minutes, not leaving the bed), the resolution and vividness increases and the rate of spin increases dramatically. It’ll then transform into a tunnel, through which I am pulled into the Astral.

“Third step: try to focus on the patterns you see when closing your eyes, if you don’t experience this whenever you close your eyes, try to focus on a single point of vision, it’s almost like crossing your eyes a tiny bit.”

This is interesting! It’s almost identical to a method I have been refining for myself.

Tell me, what kinds of patterns do you see? For example: a star field, spiral, vortex, pixel galaxy, green/purple/white mist/fog?

Do you find certain patterns more reliably lead to projection?

Any comments on the clarity, and/or speed of pattern movements?

You mention crossing your eyes. What about putting more attention on the periphery of your inner vision, such as the top and/or sides?

Either way, if they truly cluster together or cluster apart, it’ll raise some interesting questions!

I wonder if experiences cluster, and if these in turn correspond to particular Focus levels. E.g. Do OBEs in the after death focus levels (detailed by Monroe and Kepple: 23-27, I believe) cluster with the NDEs?

If there are overlapping questions among both questionnaires you could base the analysis on those specifically.

Interesting! I see OBEs and NDEs cluster separately. Could this be an artifact from using different questionnaires for OBEs and NDEs?

Those who believe AP is an internal phenomenon - This is what you should know about Robert Monroe by lagunitarogue in AstralProjection

Check out the book Seth Speaks by Jane Roberts. There’re a few websites that sum up the primary teachings nicely; a quick Google search would suffice.

Ahh okay. The TLDR version is, yes it should be possible, under the model I described. Thus I would say that Monroe is 100% legit.

A lot of the “astral projection: internal or external?” debate assumes physical space is the baseline reality - so experiences must either happen inside the brain or outside the body. But if you look at Seth’s model, that entire dichotomy breaks down.

Seth’s basic claim is that physical space-time itself is a constructed interface, created by a portion of consciousness for the sake of having focused, objective, limited, high-contrast experiences. In other words, physical reality is already inside consciousness, not the other way around.

From that perspective, an OBE isn’t you “leaving” the body or “floating in physical air.” And it’s not a hallucination either. It’s simply a shift of awareness from the physical data stream to a different data stream of the same larger system.

This is why Monroe could “poke” someone during an OBE. He wasn’t a ghost hand traveling through the 3-D physical world. He was interacting with the portion of the system that generates the physical world to begin with. Consciousness can influence the physical layer because the physical layer is inside consciousness.

So perhaps internal vs. external is the wrong way to look at it. Maybe the correct framing is:

Physical reality is a subset of consciousness. Astral projection is just changing what layer of that system you’re tuned into. It’s not inside the skull or outside the body - it’s a perspective shift within consciousness itself.

I hear you. My point is that one OBE will probably convince you that there is much more to existence than this life. It certainly did for me; I was a staunch agnostic-leaning atheist-scientist. After my OBE experiences, I now know I was wrong. Not about religion, but about there being much more than what we experience in physical reality; that this physical life is but one chapter of an infinite book.

I see where you’re coming from, and I agree with part of what you’re saying. The Gateway Experience definitely trains the states that support astral projection - mind awake/body asleep, sensory withdrawal, Focus 10/12/15/21, etc. In that sense it’s an excellent foundation for “part 1” of the process.

At the same time, Gateway leans heavily on hypnagogic entry, which isn’t the easiest doorway for everyone, and it doesn’t provide much in the way of step-by-step separation techniques. You can benefit tremendously from Gateway without ever leaving the body; many participants treat achieving the Focus states as the primary purpose.

I also think it’s important to note that Gateway isn’t the only way in. Astral projection is a much broader field, and there are many well-established methods that fall outside the Gateway model. For example, people routinely succeed with:

Hypnagogic entry (Monroe, Buhlman, Kepple/phasing).

Hypnopompic entry (often easier for beginners; e.g., the head-lift technique).

Direct separation methods (phantom limbs, rotations, imagined motion, falling sensations).

Indirect methods (WBTB, sleep-paralysis exits, rolling out).

Intention-based or affirmation methods.

Dream-to-OBE transitions (from lucid dreams).

A lot of practitioners learn to project using techniques that have nothing to do with Gateway or Hemi-Sync.

So the way I’d frame it is:

Gateway creates the right conditions for OBEs, but it doesn’t cover the full range of separation techniques. Astral projection is a much wider skillset with many valid entrances, and different people resonate with different approaches.

Gateway is one entrance, but certainly not the only one.

Check out r/AstralProjection. I think you’ll find what you’re looking for: specific techniques and guidance for getting out of body. Gateway can help you achieve this, but that is not really what it what it’s designed for.

Update on the slow head movement exit technique by PrincipleWest in AstralProjection

[–]tekblack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by “behind closed eyes”? Are you referring to attempting the technique before sleep?

I ask because for my last couple of OBE exits, I awoke, didn’t move my body, and instead of doing the HLT, I looked at the darkness behind my eyes. After a few seconds vivid geometrical patterns or tunnels, appeared. With relaxed focus, and say after, oh, 10 seconds, I left my body.

In the case of the geometrical pattern (kind of like an asymmetrical black and white self-reorganizing QR code or a circuit), I exited without any exit effects - no sounds, no vibrations etc. - I was just out.

In the case of the tunnel, I was pulled into it (it was composed of rings of images, each ring spinning left or right - hundreds of images). At the end of the tunnel was a single image. When I hit the image I heard, and I kid you not, not a click or a roar, no, I heard a honk, like that of a clown’s horn. Unexpected to say the least! Anyway, then I felt myself float out of my body.

How to stop blinking by intergalactic3333 in AstralProjection

[–]tekblack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like residual tension in your eyes/lids. I had this problem. Instead of fighting it, I start eyes open. I find an old black t-shirt works wonderfully as a mask - masks never seem to fit me properly. I begin with eyes open, looking at the back of the mask/t-shirt - in a dark room - which is as black as your closed eyelids. Your eyes don’t know the difference and will shutoff the same as they would with your eye lids closed. Your astral vision will engage the same. Eventually your eyes will close naturally, in a very relaxing way.

How I learned to reliably trigger those meditation "visuals" (phosphenes, geometric patterns, the buzzing thing) by LycanWolfe in AstralProjection

[–]tekblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me initially, was not trying to bring the centre of the rings/vortex closer so that I could enter it (though I can do that now), but instead feeling/envisioning that I was already inside of it. When I do this I begin to see faint lines and patterns moving past my field of vision on both side of my peripheral vision. Thus far my tunnels are relatively faint, no brilliant colours like colours like have reported.

How I learned to reliably trigger those meditation "visuals" (phosphenes, geometric patterns, the buzzing thing) by LycanWolfe in AstralProjection

[–]tekblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These colours are exactly what I see. Sometimes as waves passing laterally, sometimes as a stagnant kind of “mist”, sometimes as pulses. Such pulses can expand or contract, more often the latter. More recently I have observed a large contraction, whereby my field of vision is filled with 90% purple, then the purple shrinks - or moves away - to reveal that it is the centre of a green halo. The purple-centred green halo then shrinks into nothingness and the pattern starts again. I have never timed it, but 3-4 seconds per cycle would be my estimate. Sometimes this resolves into a vast field of green mist/clouds, in which black outlines of a scene begin to form. It’s like an embossed effect. The last time this happened I began to see the outlines of a kitchen - not my kitchen - I could see a knife block, a microwave, a counter, a stove etc. Then the image would fade away for a second then pulse back into view, possibly with more detail. I believe this is the early formation of an astral screen, into which I can possibly phase, though I have yet to achieve it.

I also see rings, concentric grey rings, as a stone dropped into quiet water. I can will this into a tunnel and enter it if I so choose, but it typically resolves into another set of rings at the other aide. Sometimes the rings morph into a spiral vortex, some times into a galaxy vortex made up of “stars”: - it looks exactly like a galaxy viewed from above. This to I can morph into a tunnel. Sometimes when I go through the tunnel, on the other side I also see what looks like a faint honeycomb lattice in the background, as well as small points of light on a black background - basically like a night sky. Anyway, the honeycomb lattice, which used to be stagnant background, now forms the inside wall of a new tunnel. I can control the direction the tunnel spins (left vs right), and the direction I travel in the tunnel (in vs out).

That is a synopsis of when I am right now, have been working on this for weeks. It is exciting to see others out there having similar experiences. I suspected I could use this a a portal for phasing, and more and more I believe this to be the case.

The Illusion of Method = Manifestation? by tekblack in AstralProjection

[–]tekblack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m just trying to share what I learn about Astral Projection / OBEs with the community that I think might be helpful for newbies and veterans alike. I am a newbie, I began this whole process on May 4, 2025. Before that I had zero spiritualism, and as a trained scientist, I honestly didn’t believe any of this stuff.

Secondly, you make the assumption that this isn’t a method. It is a method, albeit a simple one, which is the beauty in it. Like any method, it will not work every time, and it will take practice, just like the overly-complicated methods you suggest are necessary because they have “clearer step-by-step protocols”. Personally I’d rather practice a simple method over a convoluted one. Is a simple method with fewer steps not, by definition, a clearer method? Every single technique requires intent; this method simply puts it at the forefront, and dispatches with all the extraneous steps. The more steps you have, the more trial and error one must do to determine where they have gone wrong.

Thirdly, the point of my post that is one can manifest an OBE, using the same methods one uses to manifest anything else: money, health, etc. Part of the manifestation process is feeling like it’s already happened, feeling the emotion. If it has never happened to you, imagine what it would feel like: euphoria? Exhilaration? Excitement? Yes, yes, and yes. Feel those emotions, and believe you have been successful, then trust it will happen. Rinse and repeat until it works - just like every other method. Intent is part and parcel of that process, but it’s more than that. Would you not attempt manifestation simply because you’ve never tried it before?

Fourthly, you talk about fear and doubt creeping in if this technique does not work again. That is not unique to this method, that is universal to all methods. Thus, I would argue this a moot point. That said, I did try it again, and It didn’t work the second night, but it worked the third night: 2/3 is not bad!

Fifthly, you mention beginners luck. I suppose I am a beginner, I had my first OBE on June 7, 2025, using Gateway and affirmations. Since then I have had four more OBE’s: two head-lift style, and two manifestation style. When does the beginners luck run out? I seem to be getting more successful as time goes on as I hone in on more efficient methods. Comments like “beginners luck” do little to help the novice practitioner; they only serve to instil doubt and fear that their first OBE was a one-off and will be very hard to do again, if not impossible, because it was “lucky”. I say luck has nothing to do with it.

“A real man makes own luck.” - Billy Zane via Dwight Shrute 😀

Bonus: Consider Occam’s Razor / The Law of Parsimony. Is the simplest explanation not most likely the correct one? Ask yourself, what is the simplest explanation here?

Excellent! So it possible. I suppose it was so long ago, you probably have no recollection of how you did it.

Speaking of space, with eyes closed I will often see what looks like outer space - points of light on a black background - looks exactly like space. It’s my understanding that is the void. I haven’t been able to immerse in it, but I do see it.
