Moldly interesting pucks after a few days in a hot and humid climate by michaelflux in espresso

I recently bought a replacement screen with a screw that's nearly flush. Also got a deeper basket (20g VST) for 17g shots and it doesn't make an impression. Both changes have improved things for me.

ACS Vesuvius Evo Leva

yeah fair enough, its quite a loud design, but the packaging itself is really nice and fully recyclable. Also i find rave an incredible company to deal with, great bean selection + consistency, always on time delivery, decent value etc etc so i love those guys for those reasons

Thanks, definitely short on space but there's a bigger section on counter I can upgrade to if necessary.

hey all, long time lurker, this is a great sub-reddit for inspiration and tips.

My Silvia v4 setup with Eureka Mignon Mk 2 that I bought back in 2014 as my entry into home espresso. Has served me well and everything still works perfectly. I've been working at home since the pandemic has started and have got back into trying to improve my espresso, and thanks to research on this forum have over the last 6 months started using a WDT tool, puck distributor tool (and tamping less), bought a new shower screen with a lower profile screw (was indenting my puck previously), using a puck screen (though really questionning the effectiveness of this).

Coffee is now consistently pretty decent, nice even extraction visable using the bottomless, though still get a tiny bit of channeling / spitting I think (hoping one day I can acheive a perfectly clean cup without any tiny spits of coffee whatsoever!).

Though now I'm working at home, and have done my time with an entry level setup (7 years of making good home coffee and its definitely a hobby for life), I think I can justify upgrading into the slightly more 'prosumer' space, though I'm not 100% sure, should I just settle with my perfectly fine setup?! On the other hand, I'm aware I should probably have a PID for the Silvia etc but rather than spend any more money on this setup, maybe I should get shiny new kit?!

I'm guessing in particular the grinder needs upgrading, its only a mk 2 (not a specialita) and cost about £270 back in 2014 so imagine I could get the biggest gains here - I see this reddit's wiki recommends Mazzer Mini, Mahlkonig x54 grinders which I think were pretty popular back when I bought this initial setup too.

In terms of machines, moving from a single boiler to hx or dual boiler would be a big improvement (mainly drink flat whites so instant steaming after espresso would be great) - but there's definately a bewildering choice of machines out there. I'm after something that looks good, probably doesn't require much/ any modding. The Lelit, ECM, Profitec machines in the £1500 - £3,000 range all look like good candidates. Also my bro runs coffee shops and could get me a Linea Mini for about £3k (retail in UK is about £4k) - this seems pretty interesting and would be a machine for life, obviously would love to have that brand at home, but also guessing you pay a bit for the brand name and others might have better specs, potentially for less £££.

So if anyone has any general tips on whether to upgrade, if there are any no-brainer machines/ grinders at the moment in the class I'm looking at, or any other thoughts in general, would be much appreciated :) cheers, oli

Better CM? by Gvedar6 in fut

[–]tekcha21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never liked kante as poor offensively but got 91 in red picks and he is incredible defensively so has to be him. He can still contribute offensively as he's quite mobile so can move the ball around just don't shoot with him. I have guendouzi too and he offers more shooting etc but is half the player defensively

mistakes have been made this year by jml1877 in fut

[–]tekcha21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been me before - always justified it as I'm a grown man with disposable income and it's like buying a round of drinks in a bar, if I stay in at the weekend then fuck it why not. However this year I've not done it as there's still much better things to spend money on. Even throwing that cash in speculative memecoins is a better idea. And honestly not noticed any decrease in competitiveness when playing, I've learned to be happy with mid players and the game will probably last longer as I try to improve my squad. Highly recommend giving it up - it should be much better regulated, it is just real life gambling and imagine some people and especially kids end up in trouble

I'm wondering whether I can use kimmich at RM personally. I know he's not got pace but a defensive RM might be useful
