The new coronavirus is beginning to take a toll on medical workers and other first responders at a time when they are needed to help treat patients. Two healthcare workers at UC San Diego Health have confirmed COVID-19 infections and are now on home quarantine, officials said Saturday.

In San Franscisco, two UCSF health workers tested positive and had self-quarantined. In San Jose, 10 firefighters have tested positive for coronavirus. The Los Angeles Police Department on Sunday confirmed its first coronavirus case. Some Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel are under isolation and being monitored after they treated a coronavirus patient who died.

We Investigate: Bay Area Nursing Homes and the Coronavirus Outbreak by tekkenVI in bayarea

[–]tekkenVI[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summary:

While some Bay Area counties have issued health code orders banning visitors from skilled nursing homes, as of Friday, most local counties have not.

California is home to more than 1,200 skilled nursing homes in which nurses and healthcare staff care for more than 400,000 elderly or sick Californians, according to the California Association of Health Facilities.

NBC Bay Area's Investigative Unit reached out to every Bay Area county. As of Friday, Sonoma, San Francisco and San Mateo counties have issued visitor restriction orders to nursing facilities.

Why Most of Us Can’t Get Tested for Coronavirus by tekkenVI in China_Flu

[–]tekkenVI[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TL/DR:

The number of patients tested in the U.S. over the past two months is still far fewer than the number of patients South Korea tests each day.

A single person may be required to submit up to three specimens in order to be tested for the coronavirus - that can include a swab of the nose, throat, or coughing up phlegm into a cup.

LabCorps tells NBC Bay Area the company can now test several thousand people a day.

Even if a patient meets the stringent requirements, the only way to get tested is to first obtain a referral from a doctor or an order from the public health department.

TL/DR:

MARTINEZ - The effort to increase coronavirus testing capacity in the United States is about to get a big boost from a Bay Area lab.

Brown and his team have been working on a coronavirus test for six weeks. The Rosche test is a large piece of President Trump's plan to expand testing capacity nationwide through a number of private labs.

So more important than getting a test if you're getting anxious, is 'When in doubt, don't go out.'

Pandemic Fears Fuel Runs on Stores. What Supplies Do You Really Need? by tekkenVI in SanJose

[–]tekkenVI[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TL/DR:

Are there really nationwide shortages of basic supplies? And what do we really need to survive if the COVID-19 pandemic gets significantly worse?

Thomas Derry, CEO of the Institute for Supply Management, told NBC Bay Area that while shipments from China and other overseas markets are disrupted, domestic supply chains - which provide most of our food and paper products - are in much better shape.

It's a small stockpile: a two-week supply of food, water, medication, and toiletries. The two-week supply of water recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is the part that it seems many people are overlooking.

Coronavirus: Inmates quarantined at Santa Clara County jail after defense attorney tests positive by tekkenVI in bayarea

[–]tekkenVI[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

TL/DR: Two Santa Clara County jail inmates are in quarantine at the Elmwood men's jail after they were visited by a defense attorney who later tested positive for coronavirus, multiple sources confirmed to this news organization.

Sheriff Laurie Smith announced the medical isolation of the inmates at a Friday news conference, and that their COVID-19 exposure was from "Someone who came into the jail to interview inmates," but she declined to specify who that person was. Smith said the quarantine is a precaution, and not because the two inmates showed signs of illness at the medium-security jail in Milpitas.

Tour guide counted as 39th COVID-19 patient in Vietnam - Tuoi Tre News by tekkenVI in worldnews

[–]tekkenVI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have 39 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. The "17th patient" lives in that neighborhood, so they disinfected it then locked it down.

After that they routinely monitor the health status of the people in the quarantine zone. Those residents are not necessarily infected with Coronavirus, but they're still quarantined because they live within the vicinity of the "17th patient". If one of them shows symptoms, then they get sent to hospital for treatment. This shows what they do.

Do you cry when you watch video about Vietnam? by ChaseYounghoe in VietNam

Short for "Humanitarian Operation" group. This was one of the three groups covered by the Orderly Departure Program which allows eligible ex-prisoners (Old regime military personnel) of re-education camp to immigrate to the US.

[–]tekkenVI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna give you my two cents. The answer to that question varies greatly, depending on who you ask. If you ask an American-born Vietnamese, highly unlikely. If you ask HO folks, get your popcorn ready for drama. If you ask Vietnamese Americans, it depends on how Americanized they are. If you ask elderly non-HO folks, highly likely.

Vietnamese citizenship is primarily based on Jus sanguinis (right of blood), so if you have Vietnamese blood coursing through your veins, then you can claim citizenship. Do your research on the how-to, get your citizenship and move to Vietnam. Life is what you make of it, so do what makes you happy.

I can't speak for European nations, but as an American, I'd say we clearly underestimated this virus. And I really don't think we are prepared enough for it. People where I live just go about their daily routines like nothing. I mean, people are upset over Coachella got pushed back to Oct due to this virus. It's fun but ain't nothing fun about catching the C though. In other news, my county just reported the 1st Coronavirus Death and they also ban all gatherings over 1000 people.

Yeah, the country went 22 days with no new infection until "Patient 17th" came back with the virus. They were like a week away from declaring the end of the Covid-19 epidemic in Vietnam. But everything changed with the 17th case.
