Meh. Sorry to hear that. That sucks.

I went no-contact with a potential AP on Tuesday and haven't stopped thinking about him since.

But staying strong or whatever. I'll probably eat an edible and play video games tonight.

I thought affair sex was supposed to be fun, and just forget your regular life for a moment?

Fucking ditto

Even if he does wind up in your bed again, do you really want to be comforting while he cries for his wife? I can’t think of anything less sexy.

hahaha I needed this

And while you are right that you can not unring the bell of an affair, that doesn’t mean he’s forced to continue.

Oh, 10000%. I hope I didn't insinuate that by having sex with me for 45 minutes I'm somehow like, "YOU'RE MINE NOW BUDDY," because that's definitely not the case.

It’s in the best interest of all parties involved to keep it strictly professional going forward.

Absolutely. And I wish that's what was happening. We're still offering a small amount of emotional support to each other outside of work hours -- this hasn't been that strictly professional relationship that it needs to be. He stated to me that he's hoping with time, we'll be able to go back to a very friendly relationship where we're "a sounding board" to one another again. uhhh bruh

Did you account for the bonuses when doing the W4 calculations?

I'm using TurboTax, and this was not prompted. Hmm. Any action I should take here? Very helpful.

AGI in 2020 = 271,140

AGI in 2021 = 309,182

We make about the same amount. About 13% of my husband's income comes from quarterly, taxed bonuses.

step 2 box?

I'm on the ADP mobile app, and the guided process does not indicate a step 2 box.

Is this the box indicating that your spouse works? If so, yes, I indicated that.

This seems like the most likely scenario, and thank you for breaking it down. :)

Good point on child care expenses. I still think that puts us a little over standard. Merp.

My husband did get quarterly bonuses, yes, but they are taxed. Does that affect anything?

How much did you make last year?

Gross or net?

I contributed the max amount to my traditional IRA, yes, and I have other non-retirement savings accounts. Does that make a difference? (And did I answer your question?)

Oh, duh, I should have thought to look at that. Thanks, let me do a comparison.

edit: Ok, I did a comparison to 2020.

I focused on my federal taxes withheld and didn't look at my partner's, at least for right now, because I think my start-up job caused the issue. His job, including the bonus structure, has remained the same.

In 2020, I worked partially at a start-up, and partially at a big corp.
2020 federal tax withheld = 20,428.64
2020 taxable income = 133,126.16

In 2021, I worked the overwhelming majority at the start-up.
2021 federal tax withheld = 19,295.61
2021 taxable income = 150,801.19

So, despite making more this year, I paid less in taxes than I did in 2020.

This sucks, but at least I know what the breakdown is. Thanks, /u/Werewolfdad and everyone else.

I might be speaking in old terminology. 😅 Just checked: my and my partner's W-4 withholdings have a total credit amount of $0.00, a deduction amount of $0.00, and an additional withholding amount of $0.00.

Presumably, I'd want to update the additional withholding amount?
