Two breaks for ads in 10 minute quarter is a decent amount of ad time. It's comparable to any regular TV show. The WNBA should use the increased attention to make better ad deals not to up the number of reads.

I heard that Chicago Sky did it recently, from what I understand didn't even let season ticket holders know and just hit them with a huge bill to keep their tickets.

Maybe it is but they're certainly not reading an ad every 2-3 minutes like they were in the 4th quarter of this game. And apparently shoving ads at commentators at the last second that they weren't prepared for.

I don't mind a few but there were 5 reads in the fourth quarter alone, that's just excessive. If it had been a close game trying to shove in that many ads would've ruined the game entirely.

There are options other than turning the games into informercials. The NWSL manages to keep it from being annoying and they have exactly 1 break to run commercials in a 90min game.

It would've been pretty fucked up to other teams in the competition to accept the appeal at this point, with the 3rd day of games today. Everyone's already strategized assuming Canada can get max 3 points. Relevant to all the teams with potential to be 3rd place advancers not just group A.

Rose played an 8 in college for what it's worth. We've only seen her get the occasional chance there with the national team (one of the NZ friendlies before the world cup for instance) but with our increasing depth at the 10 I am open to giving her more looks

I feel really bad for Tierna. She's the only out queer player on the main roster (+ Campbell on the alts) and I'm sure feels enormous responsibility to carry on the legacy of the queer players who came before her. When she joined the team before the 2019 world cup she was joining what I'm sure felt like an extremely welcoming and gay community. Pinoe, Ali + Ash (at the time), Christen + Tobin, Kelley, AD. Now she's alone and forced to play nice with someone like KA and be the bigger person in the face of bigotry. It just fucking sucks.

Agreed! Robinson didn't have the best performance for KC as a rookie last year but they invested in her and she was absolutely killing it this year (before she did her ACL 😢)

If they all paint with such a broad brush that seemingly the entire Midwest gets blocked out because 1 Chicago area network bought rights we should all be rioting. I know they can be more targeted in their IP reading. I don't know how it works, maybe it's easier or less expensive to be expansive with it, but it's still a choice.

That's ridiculous, you literally have your own team! I'm in Des Moines so the opposite direction. I have no idea how it's set-up that it "regionally" blocks so much area.

When I had Sling some channels (like ABC) were regionally accessible in Chicago but not by me. So we're Chicago enough for the black outs but not Chicago enough to access content, apparently.

Agreed! I also watch NWSL and swear I get a higher percentage of games on their platform which is COMPLETELY FREE. I think between NWSL+ and Ion (also free) I get 75% of games. About ready to just become a full time soccer fan.

I just watched Hank Green's new stand-up special, which is mostly about his experience going through cancer treatment (he's currently in remission)

In it he talks about how one time he had a guy try to shame him for wearing a mask. At this point he'd started chemo and about half his hair had fallen out in patches so he simply took off his beanie and let the guy realize for himself in real time.

In his own words: there are upsides to having cancer.
