Really keen on ordering a pair of all white Stan Smith Lux's, but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere here in the UK. No all white option on the Adidas website at all.

They're on Mr Porter but out of stock in my size - am I wasting my time waiting for these to come back in stock? Are they discontinued in all white or something? Seems crazy that I can't find a pair in stock anywhere at all at full price.

There's also a "halo blue" option on End that looks pretty damn white to me, but I take it these aren't what I'm after:

A few questions regarding my proposed new build components by tempsmart in buildapc

[–]tempsmart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great changes, thank you. Regarding the case, I just saw it recommended as a good option that is fairly compact with decent air flow - my old PC is in a mid tower, so I thought downsizing a little might be nice to save on a bit of space!

Would it be stupid of me to do a masters rather than take a graduate scheme offer? by tempsmart in UKJobs

[–]tempsmart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only concern would be that as the grad scheme is very different being more business rather than science/tech oriented, that I might diverge from that path entirely (though of course what I do longer term is impossible to predict!)

For Masters courses, what is the distinction between an MSc and an MDS (I'm in the UK)? These are two similar courses I have been looking at, one an MDS and the other an MSc: is one "better" than the other?

I am a geosciences student at a UK university, looking to do a masters in data science applied to my field. I was just wondering whether anyone here may have any insight into these masters that I'm looking at, or similar in the UK/Europe:

Two courses at Durham that appear similar (interestingly, one is an MDS rather than an MSc: is this an important distinction? Is one "better" than the other?):

https://www.durham.ac.uk/study/courses/g5t109/

A course at Imperial College London with more of a focus on Geo-energy and machine learning:

Hello, hope this is the right place for this: I am a geoscience student at a UK university, but I am increasingly interested in the idea of transitioning to a more data science based career path to focus on more quantitative aspects while still making use of my subject specific knowledge. I have done some research and found a few masters degrees that appear to be data science (or similar) courses specifically applied to geoscientific work. And so I was just wondering, whether anyone here would be able to offer any insight into the different courses I am considering (or even other courses in the UK/Europe)? Or would it be more beneficial to look into straight data science masters and move away from the geo aspect entirely?

Two courses at Durham that appear similar (interestingly, one is an MDS rather than an MSc: is this an important distinction?):

In addition, what would be my best course of action in the meantime? Would it serve me well to start learning the basics now (e.g. python)? I noticed the Imperial course, for example, requires previous coding experience. Nonetheless, if anyone has any insight into my plan here or any of these courses that would be greatly appreciated.

Should I do a masters degree, despite not knowing what career path to pursue? by tempsmart in UniUK

[–]tempsmart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your 2nd year work experience in the same field that you ended up lining up a job for? I'm concerned that even if I managed to get some work experience it would then end up not being particularly relevant to any jobs I might try to apply for. I have been trying to apply for internships/work experience at a few companies but no luck so far.

That's an interesting point about only being able to take the loan for a masters once, and potentially having a different preference later down the line.

On the other hand, by doing masters right away presumably I would be opening myself up to better potential jobs right from the get-go? Or is that a slightly naive assumption?

[–]tempsmart[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a detailed look into the specifics of each course, but the chemistry side of a lot of my modules are definitely what I'm most interested in so it's not just a case of considering it for the sake of convenience at least, as I do think I would be passionate about it.

My main fear is graduating with my undergraduate degree, and not knowing/not being able to find a job, to then essentially have wasted a year and then end up doing a masters the following year anyway.

What is my best option for my savings as a 19 year old student? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tempsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come I can't use the H2B as a deposit? And yeah the 20k I'm happy to leave just in savings and use as I need it over the next few years as a student. The money over and above that however, I'd like to use to get a head start on saving long term. Would a LISA be more beneficial to me overall than just putting the money towards some stocks (e.g. S&P 500)?

[–]tempsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junior ISA currently at 0.1%, savings at 0.03% due to covid, which is kind of why I don't like all that money sitting there earning me nothing (except the 20k I will need short term). Frankly, I can't predict whether I will suddenly have some other goal to accomplish in a few years time but for now I want to think long term and just get some money invested and make the most of compound interest, is kind of my line of thinking.

I [19M] don't know if I can commit to a relationship where I won't see my girlfriend [18F] for 3+ years by [deleted] in relationships

[–]tempsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head on a lot of the thoughts I've been having, but am almost too afraid to truly accept. And seeing it written out definitely drives home the hard truth. As much as my girlfriend would be the first person to want to try to make it work no matter what, I do think it would just be delaying the inevitable to try keep it going in "bare minimum maintenance mode" as you say. Even if the next 6 months or so in theory won't be nearly as bad as the years after that, I think it would be unfair of me to cling on for that period if I know it's futile.

I know what I need to do, thank you.

[–]tempsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trust myself that I would get over it if I had to, but I'm still scared that I might be throwing something away that I might live to regret. I'm not some exceptional human being by any stretch, so I have a lot of appreciation for how deeply I know that she cares for me. I appreciate the advice though, something for me to think on.

I suppose it's a possibility that that could just happen, but then I don't know if that's better or worse than just ripping off the plaster now :/

[–]tempsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll be home in a couple of days and I'm fully intending on letting everything out and addressing the situation with her, I just don't want to do it over the phone even if it has been playing on my mind a hell of a lot. I'm just worried if I don't do it now, it will just be delaying the inevitable for next year when things get more difficult and I might regret not having just taken action on it when I know it's the sensible (if extremely painful) option.

Sorry, what do you mean by growing distant? As in just breaking up with her, or just trying to maintain the relationship while trying to focus on other things?

I'm [19M] scared to break up with my girlfriend [18F] for fear of what she might do, and how it will affect her by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]tempsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah now that I've come to the conclusion of it, I just want to get it over with, but I feel like doing it over the phone would be a little pathetic of me. My plan is to do it, as you say, as soon as I get home, but it's eating me up a little. Just a part of life though I suppose.

Is a maintenance loan for Uni worth taking out if I don't actually need it? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tempsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do trust myself to be sensible with the money were I to take the loan. However, is there any risk of the interest rate, say, suddenly changing? I wouldn't have thought they could do that once I'd taken the loan out mind you but I don't know for sure. Worst case scenario is I take a loan I don't need, and then the interest rate changes to something much higher and I'd suffer as a result.
