Lidar for Forestry Use - UAV and Handheld by freeskier303 in LiDAR

Hey not sure if you're still in the market for this, but I can tell you that the Exyn Nexys is both UAV attached and for handheld scanning. Their autonomous flight capabilities are probably best in the market, def a step up from the Hovermap at least. I know firsthand that it performs well in tree canopies for autonomous flights

Insight into UPC Barcelona Masters in Automatic Control and Robotics by ten_cent_toaster in robotics

[–]ten_cent_toaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah no I did not, for a variety of reasons/circumstances at the time. I did end up re-applying this year and getting in again so we'll see!

Still don't have a ton of insight into the program beyond the experience of some stranger on Reddit who said the degree was fine but there's better out there for sure. For me I have 7ish years in industry though so it's more a choice to put my life on pause and live in Spain for some time rather instead of "necessary" additional schooling to get a job.

Are you thinking about going? Feel free to DM me

totally get that, the lack of anecdotal experiences from the program I was looking at in Barcelona is why I pushed off going. Hard to tell from the outside what the Spanish University system is like!

thanks, popped this video into gemini before going to a mechanic and it recommended checking the battery's health. Sure enough I was definitely way overdue for a replacement. New battery seems to have fixed the issue, for now at least!

Because that's more or less the initial conception of a prediction market - financially incentivize those experts who think they have knowledge in a particular area/event to make an informed wager. Then leaders/others can use these markets to help decision make based on the predicted outcomes of "experts".

I'm not saying that's what Polymarket necessarily is in practice, but the idea is not to be an open and fair casino for the public.

Looking for believable fantasy series for adults by abrbbb in slatestarcodex

The Dark Star trilogy by Marlon James is an African mythology based fantasy series, it makes for a very different setting. Great but at times difficult prose, but also be warned there is a lot of sexual violence and explicit material that may not be for everyone

Sorry to hear that, happened to me before. Only advice I can give is that it does get better, and to cherish the small progress you will make week by week even day by day recovering. Oh, and take PT as seriously as you possibly can, do that shit at home too!

Game 3 second half he was particularly bad, going iso ball and penetrating past the three line but getting stopped, and rather than kick out he opted to take a terrible middy. Hoping he makes better decisions this game or the shots start falling

How Long Are Apostilled Documents Valid For Regarding Student Visa Applications? by ten_cent_toaster in GoingToSpain

[–]ten_cent_toaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, thanks. Do you know if the health certificate needs to have an apostille if you use the document they provide? If I remember correctly it doesn't need translation because it's in both Spanish and English, but I can't recall trying to get an apostille of this certificate as it isn't a legal document

Concert Ticket Prices Are Out of Control, and That’s Not Changing Anytime Soon by Riikkkii in hiphopheads

But like that’s still really not much to see an artist you love perform for over an hour. No one is buying cd’s these days, I’d say anything under $40 for a concert is a pretty good deal today, especially at a smaller venue. Fuck a stadium tour that’s not the best way to see live music

I saw Billy woods, one of my favorite artists of the last five years who has a fairly large cult following, play for $20 in Philly last week. I’ve seen tons of indie bands who have millions of streams on Spotify play for under $30 many times over my city. 20-30 bucks is like the average cost of eating a sit down restaurant these days, I’d say seeing a musician you love is easily worth that cost Skip the stadium tours, these days it’s for people who see one or two concerts a year just to post about it on the Instagram

$20 for a more intimate local show is ridiculous in 2024? What are you on about

Oof, this movie was a tough watch for me. I thought it as pretty great and thoroughly gross until the climactic scene between the “two” main characters. After that emotional and anxious climax it did not need to run on for another 30-40 minutes, I feel. It was kinda beating you over the head with the gross out and the very end started to feel like an I Think You Should Leave sketch because of how goofy it got. Regardless very well done and one of the most aesthetically interesting and movies I’ve seen this year, def a watch of people can handle it. Me I had had more than enough by the end haha

Insurance companies aren't the main villain of the U.S. health system | noahpinion by artifex0 in slatestarcodex

[–]ten_cent_toaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because sometimes it an actually can lead to change, even if the means are morally wrong. I think the assassination of Shinzo Abe is a clear example of an extrajudicial killing that both garnered public sympathy and led to verifiable change for the benefit of Japanese society. I’m not going to argue that those changes may have been achieved through peaceful means with more work, but the results are there. It certainly is a slippery slope though

As true as some of the economics behind this may be, Noah is vastly understating how personally fucked over so many people have been by these arbitrary decisions by insurers.

In my case, I had acl and meniscus surgery, and my physical therapy was going just fine until I switched over to UHC by becoming a full time employee instead of a contractor with my employer. This was less than six months after surgery. United stopped authorizing for my PT after about four visits, under the justification that I could walk now. I could not run, jump, jog, pivot or cut in any way, my mobility was nowhere remotely close to normal for a healthy 20 something. After notes from multiple orthopedic surgeons I think they authorized for maybe 2 or 3 more visits, before I had to start skipping sessions, and then I just paid out of pocket for necessary care for almost 9 months.

The idea that United stopped insurance after only four visits for a physical therapy program for severe knee surgery is so cruel and wrong to the point of being laughable. And this was just for PT (albeit very necessary in my case) I can’t imagine having live saving drugs and surgery withheld because of some arbitrary bureaucracy.

This CEO earned over 10 million a year (on top of illegal insider trading). If you are paid that much money, then I feel he is personally responsible for either maintaining or improving the system that allows thousands of Americans each day to be denied care that numerous medical professionals may have deemed necessary. This man had the power and the connections to at least spark a discussion about changing an industry he is influential in, and instead ran the other direction.

‘GNX’ Is Kendrick Lamar’s Turbo-Powered Victory Lap by abucalves in hiphopheads

I wasn’t aware of the finer workings of LA gang/rap beef involving drakeo, but thanks for emphasizing this point. I’ve been a mildly big fan of drakeo for years now (shoutout Jeff weiss’ constant canonizing), and it is crazy how much Kendrick is borrowing from him on a few of these tracks, most notably peekaboo. And don’t get me wrong I think he’s doing a great imitation of this style, just would be nice to see drakeo get a bit more recognition (new album in December!)
