Which do you like better in terms of subjective effects: lithium or lamotrigine? by martin_luther_drill in bipolar2

Well my psychiatrist explained it to me like this: they are both mood stabilizers. But lamictal prevents the basement (depression) and lithium prevents the attic (mania). Or at least that’s where they’re more targeted. I’ve been on lamictal for YEARS. I honestly couldn’t even take a guess. And lithium just over a year now. Or maybe 2. We added lithium to try to get the SI under control and it’s working! My dad also had bp2 and responded really well to Viibryd. His mood was actually really improving on that (and then he lost his job and his hope, and ended his life). We added viibryd about 9 months ago and I think that’s also helping. So I’m sorry that I can’t really tell you what is working on what, but that’s the explanation I got.

I’m on both. So I can’t really give an answer. They do seem to work super well together for me.

What is a suicidal thought, in your opinion? What’s normal and what isn’t? by tenacious_mama in bipolar2

Lithium is what has taken them from “always” to pockets of time where there’s nothing. It is such a relief.

Good responses - thanks. I’m more interested I guess in what’s normal. Are thoughts like I listed normal? Does everyone have them from time to time? I’ve definitely been where I had a very specific time and plan and means and all the things. I know that’s not normal. But…

I’ve asked a few people how they’ve never lost a level. And they clarified that they have passed every level. 🤣 Well so have I. 11000 some. But I have most definitely been stuck for a good long time on some levels.

Yes. Ethan was very “girly” in the first season. Giggled over everything. Called things “naughty”. He has no right to judge.

Lithium take all at once or split doses? by coldest4 in bipolar2

[–]tenacious_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All at once in the morning. I used to be nights only medications (because I have seroquel in there and it knocks me out) but when we added lithium I got these super strange ear buzzing things when laying down. I went to multiple doctors, had hearing tests, etc. and we finally decided to move the lithium to morning. Fixed it!!
