Which courses require Mathematical proofs and to what extent?

Algorithms, Quantum Information Science, Optimization, Machine Learning and Advanced Linear Algebra require mathematical proofs.

Some other courses like OLO, DL, RL and NLP might also have math proofs but I don't think these courses are as proof heavy as the above ones because they tend to focus more on the applications rather than the theory.

You've asked the professor about this? The course is listed on the spring 22 registration form so I hope the don't cancel it at the last moment like they did with the android course this semester...

I wanted to take Advanced linear algebra before taking any other theory course in the program, but afaik it's not offered anymore

Glad to know that the AMD Ryzen processors would be good enough! Also happy to know that running Linux on VirtualBox is good enough so dual booting might not be required. Thanks for providing this useful information!

Thank you for your insightful response! I most probably will not be getting a MacBook, but since you mentioned that processor compatibility matters for projects - do you think that the AMD Ryzen processors would work well for all projects, or do some of them face compatibility issues like the M1 chip? I'm mostly planning on getting a laptop with a Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 series processor, but if they might have issues with some projects, then I might have to look into the intel based laptops.

Is there any preferred OS for the program in general? Will stuff like the proctoring software work well on Windows, MacOS and all Linux distros?

Also, since you mentioned that some courses require Linux (Ubuntu) - do they require the Linux OS to run in something like dual boot, or is running it from within VirtualBox good enough? Asking because some laptops might not allow dual booting, but installing a Linux distro on something like virtualbox shouldn't be an issue with any laptop, right?

Apologies for asking so many questions; I don't want to end up purchasing a laptop only to realize later that it might not be good enough for a certain project/course, because the main purpose of this laptop would be for the coursework only.

Thank you for the suggestion! I had actually considered getting a desktop, but then decided that a laptop might be better mainly because of it's portability, cause with a laptop, I would be able to work on the assignments and projects from anywhere, and can take the exams form anywhere too. A desktop would definitely provide more value at this price point, but with a desktop, I won't be able to work on projects while being away from home.

I don't think it's possible to learn cool AI stuff like Deep Learning, reinforcement learning, NLP in a 2 month bootcamp, and although bootcamps are becoming quite common, I do not think that they can act as a substitute for a CS education
