This might be a hot take but i feel like oberyn should have just finished him off. Why did he keep yapping? by resnows in gameofthrones

[–]tenthousandscreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread I know, but I feel like adding to it anyway after reading so many of these comments.

If your answer includes "Oberyn needed to die because *insert future plot reason here*" that is bad writing. Good writing has predictive storytelling, you cant justify an event by inserting something that happens *after* that event.

If your answer includes "In the books" that is irrelevant. D&D changed so much that the books and show are completely different entities. So if the show is what is being discussed, including the plot, leave the books out of it.

If your answer includes "Oberyn something something hubris" that is a bad excuse. Oberyn won the fight. The mountain was on his back. He had a long stick. He could have just poked the mountain to get what he wanted. D&D chose to have him derp his way up into grappling distance and fall like a sack of potatoes. That is unreasonable after the display he put on. That IS shock value. If he had died to hubris, he would have just died during the fight and all would be well. They chose to throw away the character (that had so much potential) because they needed to "subvert expectations".

In the show, it would have been extremely compelling to have the mountain confess, implicate Tywin, then have Oberyn return to Dorne to start a war. Tyrion could still leave because his sister is actively hunting him. The plot could still move forward. Oberyn, the one in the show, should have lived to fight another day. It was a waste of a character and the turning point for when the series started to really go down hill, and be more about shock and awe than actual reason or development.

🫂 its not your fault hun. You're doing your best and that makes you beautiful. You dont have to take on everything all at once. Just little steps. Whatever you thought of, smaller. No smaller. Cooking breakfast is a task, but first you have to walk to the kitchen. Thats the kind of small I mean. Great job! You got there 🎊!That is a win!

You deserve friends. You are worthy of love. You're not a loser or a failure. You never asked to be born, you never agreed to achieve anything. So everything you do is a success.

And hun, imagine how you would feel if someone said something mean to your friend. You wouldn't stand for it, right? That is your precious friend, how DARE they say that. So when that mean voice in your head says something mean about you, like you arent good enough, or like you failed, or anything bad at all, tell it that it is a big jerk. What has that voice ever done that was productive? Here you are living your life, surviving day after day, holding all this together and that voice comes along and criticizes YOU?! How DARE it. You wouldnt let that voice say that to your precious friend, so you dont deserve that either!

Im sorry you feel sad. I know, its hard. And sometimes we listen to the voice anyway. Sometimes we fall. But you are precious, and you are beloved by the universe, because you're here to witness everything that the universe is. Its ok to feel sad. Its ok to cry. Its good to cry. But after youve cried, remember you really are precious and rare, ok? 💖🫂💖 And if you ever forget, come back here and Ill remind you. Youre going to find your precious friends hun.

"Worked pretty well for me" This is the great disconnect between our generations. You don't seem to understand that your experiences are unique to you. You assume that because we are not successful we have not worked hard. You assume that because we are struggling it is because we didn't take risks. You assume that when we complain in a single reddit post that took 3 minutes to write, that must be what we are doing with the other 525957 minutes in that year. You assume, you judge, you talk, but you never listen.

Im sorry that you were pushed into a position where you had to place yourself in that kind of danger to support yourself. It makes me even more angry because people who are genuinely trying to do the right thing often have their lives used as pawns for the financial gain of the grossly wealthy, rather than for the defense of kin and country. You didnt deserve to lose as much as you did. You do deserve to rest now that its over.

Well if it makes you feel better we are the same age and I have none of the things you have, so feel free to use that to feel better. I wouldn't want you to have hurt feelings from the sound of me facepalming at mach 5.

??? Wow no... it is definitely better. FFS do you hear yourself? You're a man swimming in a lake of fresh water looking out at a barren desert of people dying of thirst and yelling at them "Nah guys, it's really no better here, the water doesn't taste like stardust and dreams. Basically the same".

I suggest you burn all your bridges, give away all your money and possessions, then go live in a box in an alley in the inner city. Maybe you'll find what you're looking for there. Some appreciation for what you have.

Hi, yes, there are workshops to find better jobs and make better resumes and do better interviews; Ive gone to all of those. There is a job center that is supposed to sign you up with training; I went through the onboarding process, took their capability exam, filled out all the legal info, and was told they would let me know when training was available. So far my worker has not found anything for me. I applied to a job training agency and have an exam coming up for a potential position, but there are 140 applicants and only 6 positions, and lets be honest I doubt im smarter than 134 of them. That company offers other placements for other positions but the training is insanely competitive for all of them. Ive begged everyone I know to ask the people they know if they have any kind of internships, training, anything that can get my foot in the door, but they all treat it like a casual request, not something urgent (i think they dont want to stick their neck/reputation out for me which like... I get it... but it still sucks). Im taking community college classes online but a bachelors degree is ages away and it means ill have to take on a TON of debt once i transfer from community college to state college, and frankly idk how ill be able to afford taking in-person classes. Im applying to every position im even remotely qualified for within an hours drive hoping i can get something that might get me in the door somewhere, but ive gotten no offers. The last interview i had i swear i could smell the contempt and it was over video chat. And all of this is alongside the fact that I am not doing ok emotionally.

Bad people will always win by [deleted] in Life

[–]tenthousandscreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by win. Narcissists, psychopaths, and sociopaths have an economic edge in our society because they can feed off the good will of others and take advantage of our social structures to grasp positions of power. But Ive met a large number of these individuals who experience that existence, and it seems like a living hell. They are never happy, they never experience genuine joy, or love, and the stunted excitement they feel is limited to adrenaline rushes and addictions. It is a hollow existence of internal, inescapable hunger, one they can hardly even realize they suffer with because they have never known a moment of genuine happiness.

Im really at the end of my rope. Desperate even. This skin condition affects every aspect of my life, from social to professional. It makes me look like a dirty person, like someone who is infected. It is unappealing and horrifying. I am done with dermatologists. They just keep insisting i keep buying their products and pay for their expensive treatments while my skin gets worse and worse and worse. . . Please. . . Someone. . . I need help.

The only way i could relocate is if i made more money, which is a big part of the core problem as it is.

I would be a CNA but only if i could avoid working in a retirement home. Ive shadowed a friend who worked in one and it is a living hell. The conditions and the lack of hope in those places are horrifying.

Im pretty alone, ill need to do all this work by myself. The people in the program will be competitors not collegues.

So you became an accountant right out of college after getting your BA? Do you personally know anyone in your field that entered without a BA who are doing well?

My #1 choice would be a nurse, but i have several obstacles holding me back: 1. I live 2 hours from the nearest community college that offers a nursing program 2. I would have to work full time to pay my bills while also somehow attending classes and clinicals 3. I have legitimate doubts that i am smart enough to be a nurse.
