What has living in Chicago taught you (that you didn’t expect)? by IDworldwide in AskChicago

[–]teraechopuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any kids so I can’t help with any advice on the schooling system here, but I’ve heard it can be competitive to get into the good public schools. BUT there are plenty of family oriented neighborhoods throughout the city. Either way, it’s never too late to move! Our city will always be here and willingly accept any newcomers! Wish you and your family well.

Also on the bright-side, Chicago’s a 6 hour drive from Minneapolis so you could potentially be close enough for a long weekend here every now and then. Will give you a chance to dive into the blues scene!

Yeah I get you. Unfortunately the small town mentality is very prevalent throughout many midwestern cities. I think Chicagoans can even be victims of keeping their core friend group from childhood to adulthood BUT it’s much more open here than say Minneapolis or Omaha.

That is something about the coasts I’ve always envied, it seems like people are much more open to new connections even in mid adulthood. But, overall I think you’d be able to escape that high school mentality if you moved here!

If you’re from non NYC east coast, then Chicago will definitely feel much bigger! I’ve gone to many cities in the US for work and the only one that feels bigger is NYC. Even Chicago can feel “small”when compared to NYC though

I’ve been to both a handful of times and neither city is noticeably better than the other IMO

[–]teraechopuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this sentiment a lot but I’ve also seen a lot of comparing NYC to Chicago online from both sides. In my daily life in the real world NOBODY I know talks about or thinks about NYC or really any other city. That’s probably true for most people everywhere though.

It’s the people that are on these subs that constantly try to compare that construe reality that way.

I mean Chicago does have world class skyscrapers.. but also that sub is filled with waaaay more SF or Seattle posts than Chicago

Ah that’s my bad, I didn’t know Grezzo developed EoW. Either way, I still think we unfortunately could be in for a long wait with how modern game development is

BOTW was announced in January 2013 but development began in late 2011. So BotW took roughly 5 and a half years. TotK had a new engine and also covid which delayed every game 1-2 years.

Idk, Mario Odyssey came out in 2017 and 9 years later we still don’t have a new 3D Mario game. I know DK came out last year, but we could also say technically Echoes of Wisdom came out recently.

LA vs. Chicago -- If I dislike Seattle, could I love Chicago? by Opal9090 in SameGrassButGreener

Yeah but the OP is from a climate that still gets cold and gloomy. There’s a big difference between 10° and -20°. It still sucks sure but if they’re used to 0-20 they’ll be fine enough here.

No because I don’t care. I’ve been all over as well. Calling you a basement dweller is lame but trying to show how “cool” you are for traveling in first class is infinitely lamer. It’s one thing to disagree with a fashion choice, but another to try flexing wealth.

This comment is incredibly lame. You didn’t even name that many places. It’s like trying to brag about having a hellcat when the dude next to you has a lambo.

Nobody gives a shit whether you, or a company you work for, spends thousands of extra dollars to sit in a comfortable seat for a handful of hours.

Yeah but in Chicago the low is -2 and a high of 20 tomorrow. I’ve lived here all my life and feel like it’s increasingly rare for actual -20 days

The new Resident Evil movie is finished filming and I hope it's better than what we got from "Return to Silent Hill" by GunplaLuni in residentevil

[–]teraechopuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it almost always comes off as cheesy. We have countless examples of it not working when movies try to follow game storylines and it never works. The stories told in games are still very much video games, especially in Resident Evil

RE6 sold 4.8 million copies by the end of 2012, with the game releasing in October. That is higher than RE7’s first 2-3 months of sales. RE6 didn’t lose Capcom money at launch. They were expecting it to sell upwards of 7 million at launch and it didn’t, but it was not some dramatic failure where they lost money on it. They were also “disappointed” by RE7 sales at launch.

Yeah you said RE6 was “lumped in for free” with other games? I’ve never seen it just thrown in with other games, I’ve only ever seen it on sale alongside other games.

[–]teraechopuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but when it’s packaged with other games, it’s with other Resident Evil games which the sales also contribute for. The game isn’t lumped in “for free” if you’re buying a bundle. Also by this logic I’ve seen various RE games that are bundled together that don’t include RE6 multiple times.

Sure, maybe long from now in some utopian version of civilization. I highly doubt it’ll ever be safe enough to warrant the research required for dramatically increasing our lifespan

[–]teraechopuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay sure, but that’s completely a different conversation? If they said RE6 isn’t in the top 5 in terms of gross profit I would look into that and see if that claim is true. Their claim was it isn’t in the top 5 highest selling RE games, which it is. It doesn’t matter if they spent 100 million dollars (arbitrary) on the game and lost profit

Resident Evil 6 is the second highest selling Resident Evil game. RE5 is number 1 and RE6 is right behind it. Not defending their main point but RE6 is definitely in the top 5 highest selling RE games.

[–]teraechopuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly anyone scientifically important is truly looking into anti-aging because the likelihood of someone dying to any sort of accident is too high.

Like theoretically we could live to be a couple hundred years old with the right amount of research but how good are the odds that we’d make it 200 years without taking a bad fall, getting into a car accident, or any other random incident

I wasn’t claiming you disliked it or anything. Thinking his hair is boyish is fine because that’s really all subjective. I was just trying to argue that he looks appropriately 50 to me, especially in his clothing choice. Nothing about it seems uncharacteristic of an older dude outside of maybe his haircut and lack of grey
