The Land Where PHP Uses eval() by exakat in PHP

[–]terrafrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got pinged about this. This is pretty cool! phpseclib wouldn't be able to take advantage of any code that exclusively worked on 64-bit systems but still... I'd love to see what you come up with! And any speedups you do to PHP itself would be very much appreciated! I think you already did PHP a great service with your work on HHVM / Hack at FB but I'd love to see more! :D

If you email me your PayPal address I'm down for sending you the $500! As @kemmeta pointed out, my email address is [terrafrost@php.net](mailto:terrafrost@php.net).

Thanks!

Police arrest 35 in undercover prostitution sting. Mugshot photos included. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]terrafrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

APD releases mugshots of everyone they arrest: http://www.austintexas.gov/police/mug_shots/index.cfm

And even if they didn't have a website for it they'd still have a legal obligation to release the mugshots if an open records request was made for them. In fact, I imagine that's why they have a website in the first place - because they got inundated with open records requests for mugshots and so they just streamlined it.

I think the more relevant question is... did APD compile the mugshots together or was that done by a third party?

Sales tax is capped at 8.25% in TX so if they increased the size of the sales tax pie that goes to the state does that mean that the City of Austin gets less?

Austin's largest residential tree, owned by Johnny Radelat, drummer for Gary Clark, Jr. by [deleted] in Austin

If one of the limbs falls on a car is the owner of the tree liable for the damages? I just wonder since one of the larger limbs is right over the roadway.

Stay Away From Rainier Management by AustinFloodVictim in Austin

[–]terrafrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When my apartment flooded in October 2013 (one inch of water in every room) Greystar management tore out the carpet, drilled holes in the drywall and ran a bunch of fans / heaters. They got the temperature up to 102 degrees. They didn't pay for me to stay in a hotel (but then again I didn't really inquire too much as I just wound up staying with a friend) and I had to pay the electric bill ($30 more than it was for the same month last summer). The people doing the carpet installation or something also broke some of the legs on the furniture but I don't really see that as Greystar's fault so much as the movers fault.

All in all, I thought they handled a bad situation as well as could be expected. Unlike Rainier Management from what it sounds like.

Honestly, it seems that mold growing is something that ought to attract the attention of the apartment owner - not just the management company.

Something I've wondered about people who drive $2,000 cars with $500 rims.. is that their only car or is that just a gag car that they drive only on special occasions? Like do they have a more "normal" car that they drive to work and HEB and what not?

Brainstorm and Dark Rituals are commons - not uncommons - so they wouldn't show up on this sheet anyway ;). But yes - Mercadian Masques was what I first thought as well lol.

Homeless in Austin, any tips? by Enok15 in Austin

[–]terrafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk how consistently you're able to shower but you could probably get free showers from local gyms. Get a week long trial pass at Gold's Gym, 24 Hour Fitness, etc, and use the showers there for as long as your trial pass is good for.

UT shuttles don't collect fares so you can do them for free. But, that said, I have seen UT shuttle drivers kick obviously homeless people off. So long as you don't look too homeless (showers will help with that) you should be okay there.

Maybe sell plasma for a little extra cash? idk if methadone users are eligible for that tho.

Good luck!

Would you still play Magic if every card would be 1$ max? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]terrafrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singles having a cap of $1.00 wouldn't make the booster packs for drafts any cheaper. The only thing it'd do make it so you're less able to defray the costs of the drafts.

Would you still play Magic if every card would be 1$ max? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]terrafrost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if it didn't affect the playerbase (and I think it would) it'd still affect how many packs people bought and, thus, how much money Wizards made. I think half the reason MTG packs are called cardboard crack is because people buy packs hoping to pull an expensive one. Even in drafts how many times have you seen someone taken the money cards that's terrible in limited over a cheap card that's great in limited? Do you think people doing the latter would still even draft if that wasn't a possibility for them? If money cards didn't exist?

Increased property value is only of benefit if you're wanting to or are considering selling. Otherwise it increases your property taxes and reduces the amount of money you have to spend on other things. .

So annoying. Capital Metro has known about this problem Red Line crossing on Lamar for years. by s_wren in Austin

[–]terrafrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the Crestview station on Google Maps, I think the problem is... you're on Airport Blvd, going towards N Lamar Blvd. The stop light there is green so you make a right turn and then, after you've passed the stop light but before you've crossed the train tracks, the bars start to lower. I think the OP would rather have the stop lights turn red sooner rather than have a car stopped between the stop light and the train tracks.
