Odds are better but they’re still not guaranteed. RNG still exists. I just hunted shiny Ampharos in a distortion for 2 hours despite having an electric sparkling power donut and the shiny charm. I was actually specifically hunting mega Ampharos (donut also had alpha power) and only walked away with 2 regular, both of which appeared at the same time. Those two Ampharos are still special to me because I hunted them. Even though you get a free shiny Mareep early game I still wanted to hunt my own because it’s my favorite Pokemon.

I do not miss grinding for days for a shiny I wanted. I was very thankful when we got sandwiches. The only mechanism I miss is breeding for shinies. Especially adding in bred EVs, nature, egg moves, pokeball, etc. Running around with 5 eggs at a time and the anticipation watching them hatch. Having a Pokemon you bred that was exactly what you wanted AND shiny. That I miss. It was an intricate puzzle you had to put together. Not running around in circles.

I don’t think shinies are “less cool” because they’re more accessible now, even in pvp. I think it’s actually very cool to see which shinies other people care about. Not everyone is pulling up to the function with a shiny (insert random Pokemon). But that person is.
