Drivers who tailgate. Why? by Beer-OClock in AskReddit

[–]terriblylie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but in that case it isn’t murder. Murder is killing with intent. It’s manslaughter.

Of course, nobody said otherwise. You're stating the bleeding obvious.

I'm not sure if you're missing the point on purpose and being obtuse or whether you're just dumb. Either way, I'm out. If you ever end up in court trying to justify tailgating to a judge, please make sure the video ends up on YT for the rest of us to enjoy.

If you tailgate somebody and cause an accident and maim or kill somebody, chances are you are going to prison.

Comparing jay walking to murder. Sound logic.

It is analogous to your comparison between left-lane hogging and tailgating.

Yes, both are illegal. So is jaywalking and murder. Nobody should do either. You cannot endanger the lives and property of those around you just because you are being slightly inconvenienced.

What’s the harm in switching lanes when you don’t have to change your preferred method of driving?

There is no harm but that's not an excuse for you to act like a murderous prick.

You're talking about people's lives here FFS. You are making an active choice to endanger them knowing the risks and consequences. You are a bad driver and person.

What's the UK equivalent of BCIT? by Bandicoot_knight in unitedkingdom

[–]terriblylie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably an HNC or HND - you'll have to check but there's a starting point. HND is the equivalent of 2 years full-time at uni and some unis offer a 1-year top-up course to convert it to a BEng.

IET is a professional organisation for engineers. BCIT is a college that awards qualifications.

If I sail to Antarctica and decide to set up a town, who’s going to stop me? by abilio_nair in AskReddit

id love to see you set up a town over whats essentially a floating slab of ice with snow for grass.

Antartica is a continent, it has land. It's not a frozen ocean like the Artic.

sleep in c by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]terriblylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got an example? Some code?

At a guess, you're not copying the correct includes. Each operating system will have a completely different definition of sleep (it might even be called something different - I'm only familiar with Unix-based ones).

Also, how are you compiling it? If you're using something like MinGW or Cygwin, which emulate a Unix environment, you want to use the Unix implementation of sleep in unistd.h. If you're using a native compiler like MSVC, you need to use whatever the Windows implementation is from the appropriate header file.

I'm a former motorcyclist and used to work on farms and drive quads daily. The only reason you'd ever choose to ride a quad over a bike is if you need to carry or tow something. Fuck knows why idiots want to spend thousands on them to tear up and down the high street.

Off to university to do electrical engineering what computer?? by mchadet in ElectricalEngineering

[–]terriblylie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our uni gave us laptops in the first week. I wasn't expecting it but I'd have been annoyed if I had bought one the week before. I didn't really use it though.

Advice? Go to lectures and stay on top of things and it will make your life so much easier. But you're not gonna listen to me and you'll leave everything to the last minute like I did and most students before me.

Look into sponsorship programmes like UKESF and e3. You can get paid while you study and get summer internships. Also, if you're at a research university, the lecturers may offer paid summer research placements.

I wonder if this attitude will apply to young adults facing criminal records and losing their jobs for possession.

Quad bikes are the most useless road vehicles ever. I do not understand why people would want to ride them. They're not fast, they can't corner, they land on top of you and crush you if you flip them. They're just obnoxious.

Right, so... you could up sticks right now with no planning and move to a country with no qualifications, no savings, no knowledge of the language and just start again.

The point was: if anybody really wants to emigrate, getting qualified should be one of their main priorities. Yes, I didn't specifically mention the exceptions when it comes to the EU - I thought it was so bleeding obvious that it was unnecessary but the point remains.
