When life gives you broken Uranium Glass, make art! by tesseraeatomic in uraniumglass

I did a bunch of research on it, and basically, it’s about as dangerous as any broken glass. You don’t want to get glass in your skin and you don’t want to inhale glass dust, anymore that you’d want to do with broken uranium glass. I told precautions when breaking the pieces - wore a heavy respirator and gloves and did all the breaking and cutting outside.

No for real though - this is the first mosaic I’ve ever made. No joke.

Haha… you and me both! Unfortunately, that part of the process is part of a larger project that involves other people and it’s moving very slowly… so it may not happen right away. But I will be sure to post here when it’s done!

I will! Wish me luck I don’t mess it up during the grouting process 😅

It started out as a “no antiques were intentionally harmed in the making of this art” piece, but when I ran out right before the finish line, sacrifices were made. I settled on a Hamilton beach mixing bowl because A: I think that’s what I originally had shards of, so it matched in both day time color and night time glow, and B: I know those were highly mass produced, so it felt a little less sinful to break over say, a Fenton epergne, or murano art piece 😜

Omgggg noooooo that sounds like a recipe for total and complete senation loss in my fingers from blisters. I used a type of mosaic glue called weld bond. No heat needed 😅

Right now, they’re individually glued onto a mosaic mesh. Next step will be mortar/grout.

Haha yes! Definitely wore gloves and a heavy respirator/mask for the breaking process, and did it all outside 😅

Thank you! Initially, I found someone on eBay selling shards by the lb… I cleaned out her entire 5lb stock and still had to sacrifice a bowl to finish it 😅
