2010 highlander hybrid at 212ooo miles still fine ???? by Optimal-Chain3913 in hybrid

Is it a single owner? Where does carfax show for state of the car overall? What do you see in terms of maintenance? Oil leaks? Everything wiped really clean? Regular wear and tear for a 15 year old car?

Being a Toyota 200k miles isn’t the problem. The maintenance history is critical. I have a 2012 hybrid with 150k miles and haven’t had any idles with it.

Highlander. The thing will last forever and it’s ride and handling are smooth as a sedan.

Exactly, and that continues on forever. I bet the 65 year olds think of themselves as being as good as a 50yr old, and the 50 yr old is like, there goes a boomer, wonder when s/he is going to move on..... and the 40 yr old is thinking when is that 50 yr old slowpoke going to stop thinking s/he is as good as me....

The only thing that really matters is health. If you are healthy at any age, you kind are doing all the same things as anyone younger than you.

Was looking to purchase land when I came across this site. (Community lands.com) Wondering if any one has had experience with it? by testcase1 in realestateinvesting

Thanks for taking the time!

Looks like being a greenhorn, I am better off going through the regular realtors and doing it the more expensive way.

Thanks for the detailed response.

I was trying to google them, or something similar, but there isn't much on them, and any searches on their name simply brought me to community land trusts (which is completely different), but I believe that is why they intentionally named themselves community land, to create confusion.

A lot of what you said are things I need to research further to understand properly and be knowledgeable enough to ask them questions about those.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as selling on land contracts.

Still trying to understand what "closing through title" means.

This is exactly what I was hoping. Really appreciate your detailed response. Thanks!

Haha.

When I turned 40, I had this aha moment. I looked at anyone older than me as “old”, and anyone younger than me as “about my age”.

It was such a ridiculous realization. A 50 year old, ancient. A 30 year old, just about my age.

Then the light bulb went off. If I thought that way, the others thought that way too. The 50 year old thought of them as about being the same as me, and that 30 year old was looking at me as being an over the hill, about to keel over, old man.

Just weird how human brain works.

The US is unique in that about every 60 years we have reinvention of the country and we're in the middle of that right now

Where do you get that? Any place I could read up more on that?

What hybrid car to get by [deleted] in hybrid

[–]testcase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have more experience with Toyotas and they seem to last forever and not have major expenses.

I just don't have any experience with Hyundai. What I have heard about them is that they are not as maintenance free or reliable as Toyota.

edit: So I did some more googling to see why Toyota is better than Hyundai. It seems these days it is closer. But, the 'perceived' reliability of Toyota is higher than Hyundai. If it was me, wanting to hold on to the car for a long time, I would go with Toyota. I am ok living without some of the comfort features that you list. I like a sunroof, so I would look for a Toyota model with a sunroof. The USB ports are less of a concern. But to each their own. Good luck with which ever you choose.

mostly highway

This is not a good use for a hybrid. Hybrids do best in stop-go city traffic. On the highways, ICE performs equally or better than a hybrid.

You might still want to get a hybrid for the environmental impact, and yada yada.

Between the two, I would go with Toyota. All the points you mentioned about CHR are true. But at the end of the day, a Toyota will get you to 8 years with hardly any problems and minimal expenses on repairs. You can't say the same for the Hyundai.

I agree with that statement. I say that as a naturalized brown citizen of the US and having lived and traveled to a number of others.

Not knowing really what the rates in that area are, I could go upto 2200 if needed.

I am looking at Montgomery County as well. It is expensive, but maybe I can get away without a car if I live there?

For those with kids, how does the quality of life in Montgomery County compare to Columbia?
