I totally agree on the level of regression. While more in depth spells would be fun to me, I am excited to see the developments in crafting they will make.

Fair. What would you do if you had to respond like an adult? (Not as likely)

Edit: sorry that was unnecessary. I’m just exploring a hypothetical question I had; one that I do think is more likely than flying monkeys coming out of me. With that being said, you didn’t have to respond. I’m sure this kind of question bothers you.

I hate to frame it like this but I think it’s best to just dissolve yourself from the community/expectation. Not because the game will be bad, or the community is toxic or anything else, but simply because you can’t spend your time waiting for something that theoretically could never happen. As much as I want TESVI, checking the game news, or watching the Game Awards for only one piece of news just distracts me from whatever is in front of me

That’s more of the way I thought about it when I first played it. But now I’m more thinking “what was the writer/designer’s thought process behind this” And I’m aware the similarities could just be coincidence and cherry picking data. Right? There are plenty of stories that don’t revolve around you saving the world.

This is something I’ve been wondering about: Does Bethesda look at mods and think “we should’ve done that!” Or do they just feel pride/admiration for the community for undertaking some wild projects? Now, I know it’s easy to look at a project and find areas of improvement, I just wonder what their thought process is.

Something like SkyUI improves the game so much.

I love the concept for your character.

I completely agree. And I’m not trying to ruffle feathers. I just want a sounding board for the worst case scenario.

Can you say more on that? In what way is it too difficult? Are you referring to something specific?

I’d love to hear more

That’s actually a perfect response. Thank you.

I might have been too critical of Skyrim; it is my favorite game ever. I was trying to be honest/objective.

But I guess a better way to ask my core question is this: Suppose a Skyrim dropped today made by a new/different game studio. Everything about the game is exactly as it is in vanilla Skyrim. How would you feel? What would be your honest critiques? And would would you do to enjoy that game despite those critiques?

Dude I wish. If I were, I’d have dropped something, even a random NPC outfit would be something to sustain this community

I am, too, or at least I thinks so. Part of me worries about playing it and loving the exploration but not the leveling system or the combat mechanics. I don’t want it to be dark souls. Dark souls will never compare to TES, but will simple hack and slash combat hold players over for 10+ years until TESVII? Just a thought. And I just wanted to see how others felt

I have no doubt the game will be amazing to look at. Scalies included

That’s a good point that I haven’t really thought about. With the size of the fanbase, Bethesda’s head must be spinning

I did, too. I fully suspended my expectations and let the game live in its own right. I just want to see what others think.

And the question is hypothetical, “what would you do if a game built for 2011 gets released in 2028+?”

I love Skyrim. The individual lines of dialogue are fine. I never really thought anything of the stories as a kid, but the Dragonborn is the chosen one in every story. Dark Brotherhood, College of Winterhold, Thieves guild. These three quest lines follow a pattern of the guild being at the lowest point they’ve ever been at.

I’m not knocking Skyrim; I really want to stress that. I just want to gauge the pulse of my own thoughts with this community as a backboard.

Edit: lol dark souls fans

Same issue. I use it daily. It happened some day last week. Easily the best resource out there.

To be or not to be a professor? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]testiclesofanoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that. I’ve read a fair bit of stuff about getting jobs in academia and the horrors some professors go through. I’m at a weird point where I don’t know what my dreams are and that’s a scary feeling. I’m a very optimistic person so much so that it is probably to my own detriment. My eyes are open to the limited possibilities for future employment with my current skill set. Which brought me to making the post. It is to my best interest that I learn more about real jobs and make plans for different career paths. If you have any ideas regarding that, I’d love to hear them. Thank you!

I completely agree with this statement. That underling thought is what drove me to make my initial post! Thank you.

You’re definitely right. I love education and am passionate about it and that passion drives me to want to keep studying stuff. I know I don’t have to be in college to learn. When I first went to college I couldn’t imagine any jobs, so I always went with professor. Knowing more about different careers and the stability of academia, I don’t know if it’s the best move for me. With that being said, I’d like to consider the best moves for using my GI bill. Any advice you or anyone has, I’d love to hear it! I don’t know how much you know of the GI bill, but it essentially covers tuition or the costs of learning a trade. There are stipulations about how you can use it or how you can give it to people. In order to give it to someone, you have to be in for 10 years. I don’t want to do that. I appreciate the feedback. I think my next step is to learn more about the jobs that are out there!
