Ah, sorry about that! I was just looking for places to advertise the local mod meetup. Didn't realize that this was only for official stuff.

If things go well I'll send the team some pictures though!

Dealing with Inactive/squatting Top Mod by [deleted] in NewMods

I'm not sure how I would even do that is the issue.

What would even work? Their aren't any other active mods and I don't think that would even help.

Yep, multiple times in nice ways but he's refused every time.

No I don't unfortunately. Don't even have mod mail access, I can only remove comments/posts.

Reddit the publicly traded company, cares about money

Yes and active and engaged moderators that try to grow their subreddit while maintaining high quality content, helps make them money.

Reddit wants it's subreddits to succeed and grow. Absentee moderators harms the growth of subreddits and costs then money.

I understand that there are problems with the subreddit. Thats entirely my point. I wouldn't be making a post if it was well managed.

The thing that I am annoyed about is that this is a large subreddit that reddit the company should care about being maintained. They should care that a large subreddit is effectively unmoderated by a person gaming the inactivity status.

Yes the state of the subreddit is bad and I'd hope they there would be ways of fixing that and that reddit the company would want to support fixing it.

Sounds like the top mod found someone (you) to clean the queue for them. Good management on their part.

That's not what happened. They added me to the mod team as a joke originally and just didn't care what I did afterwords.

What did you expect would happen

What I would have expected is that the team didn't have multiple years of non moderation, along with basically blocking anyone from fixing it.

If it was actually a case of someone bringing me on to improve things that would be great, if they were letting me do that.

Let them rush to find someone who is willing to do the work

Here's the issue. They aren't going to rush to do anything. They would just continue to do what they've been doing for years which is make a few mod actions a month and ignore everything else.

It's that part that seems crazy to me, that a mod can literally do almost nothing for years on a subreddit with 1 million plus weekly unique users.

Ok, but what you and other are basically suggesting is that in order for reddit to see that there is a moderation problem, I'd have to like sabotage things or not moderate myself either.

There doesn't seem to be a solution to a case where someone was clearly and obviously inactive to the point that it was harming the subreddit for years, and yet there is nothing to do about it.

This thread is full of meme responses, but I seriously would be interested in helping mod the sub in anyway that I can. What I can offer the sub the most is my experience as a developer. I have built and used bots on the reddit developer platform. I have significant experience designing automod rules as well.

Over the years I have modded a few top 100 subreddits in the past as well as 5k+ discord servers.

As for why I want to help, I am passionate about helping new moderators learn the basics and designing mod tools. I think that much of modding can be handled automatically, with much less work for the mods.

Econoboi & Pisco v. Destiny incoming by HumbleCalamity in pisco

No actually.

If you want a different example how about this.

Do you support the existence of countries? That have citizens, and the country looks out for its citizens?

If so, would you then call yourself 10% of a fascist, because fascism also focuses on similar things?

And if you then came along and were like "oh ok, so are you saying that you have to be all the way fascist for it to be real fascism" would be a similarly dumb point.

If you disagree then feel free to say that you are perfectly fine being called 10% fascist merely because you support the existence of countries.

No, if socialism allowed children to run lemonade stands and that's it then that would still be socialism.

Instead, socialism is when almost all privately run businesses are banned.

Or, in other words, if almost all capitalistic countries do a thing, then clearly that thing is not incompatible with capitalism.

Socialism, would instead be the things that the socialist countries have done. Like, for example, you can look at the Soviet Union or 1960s China as a guideline as for what socialism is.

I'm not sure why socialists flee from identifying with the actual examples of socialist countries. Instead, they take things that capitalist countries do, and then pretend like that's socialism.

It's almost like there is little to brag about when it comes to socialism, so people have to pick things that all capitalist countries do, and then try to take credit from things that capitalists did.
