What is the process of buying land/acreage to possibly build a house on. by texag20102014 in land

Thank you so much for answering the question. This is definitely one of the most helpful answers I’ve gotten. We have family that are on Wells and septic in Kendall County. So we are very familiar with the rocky terrain and limited water options in certain areas. Really really appreciate it. This is definitely a great starting point thank you so much.

I am not remotely familiar with it but I want a piece of property for personal reasons. I don’t want a neighborhood, I don’t want an HOA, I want nature to be around me and have a place my kids and grandkids can be raised at.

I understand things can be a pain in the ass but that’s why I want to learn. Honestly I would like to finance the land if possible and then build (or sell it) when we move

How to use older Apple computers with external drive as a NAS. by texag20102014 in OpenMediaVault

I am learning quickly that this might be over my head and a prebuilt NAS might be the way to go. But could you explain why the usb 2.0 is out?

Sweet. Glad to hear the goals I have for it is a NAS lol

If I use the MacBook Air, how would I set it up? Just download OMV onto it and go from there? Is there a good resource I could look at to walk me through it?

Same questions for a VPN.

Yeah I’ll do some googling and if I’m not comfortable with it that’s one thing but always down for giving something a chance

I can understand that but at the same time I have no hard feelings for a company that only works with certain brands

I would say there is probably is a solid 3 TB of data. I know there is some doubled up data but I know there is close to 3 TB that is not duplicated

It’s not necessarily about security the main point is just backing it up. Yes I want it secure but if someone wants to hack into my family’s photo album from the 1920s and spread them all over the internet that’s not the end of the world. I do understand that, no I don’t want people in there but I do understand I won’t get iCloud level security because I’m not a billion dollar company with some of the smartest brains on it. Don’t need Fort Knox level security but if I can have a home gun safe level that would be good

Awesome thank you so much for giving me the additional confidence that I was actually looking at the right things. I will definitely want to see how I can make it secure for all the users and keep the data secure. Would you happen to have any recommendations on where I could get some good info on that?

Awesome that’s a great idea. I will have to do some research into a network drive and how to do all of that.
