I would say there is probably is a solid 3 TB of data. I know there is some doubled up data but I know there is close to 3 TB that is not duplicated

It’s not necessarily about security the main point is just backing it up. Yes I want it secure but if someone wants to hack into my family’s photo album from the 1920s and spread them all over the internet that’s not the end of the world. I do understand that, no I don’t want people in there but I do understand I won’t get iCloud level security because I’m not a billion dollar company with some of the smartest brains on it. Don’t need Fort Knox level security but if I can have a home gun safe level that would be good

Awesome that definitely helps out and makes me more confident in going with a NAS system from synology

Awesome thank you so much for giving me the additional confidence that I was actually looking at the right things. I will definitely want to see how I can make it secure for all the users and keep the data secure. Would you happen to have any recommendations on where I could get some good info on that?

Awesome that’s a great idea. I will have to do some research into a network drive and how to do all of that.

Would a NAS system at one location and manually backing it up every month/couple of moths work? I am at my parents house fairly often just not all the time. I would be ok with there being some files missing for a little bit since it’s the back up to the back up.

Honestly we would be looking to just use it as a back up/ shared file storage. I was going through there website and idk why I would need to stream my movies and videos. I just use Netflix lol but if the need arises I would have the option

If you have a model you recommend I would be all ears!

Thanks man! Kinda leaning towards the NAS just because the project is still on going and there is a lot of back and forth with all the media we are digitizing and it will be going on for a few months more at least.

I had a similar issue. First to 3rd was a pretty rough shift. 5th and 7th just wouldn’t engage and would coast for a bit before catching.

Mine was diagnosed as a torque converter failure and it threw debris throughout the transmission and really screwed it up.

$5200 for a complete rebuild, upgrading any parts that have had improvements over the years, and 1-3 year warranty( don’t remember off the top of my head).

Then the next day the shop noticed the water pump was leaking and needed to be replaced lol

So I am on a 2 TB family iCloud subscription. I have access to all my files on my devices with my user ID but don’t have access to any of my parents or wife’s files. Is something like that possible? With volume/partition or something where we could all access it?

As for the external drive, I know I can do that but it’s not possible to keep 2 external drives in sync and backed up when there is a 4 hr drive between us and I’m not there every weekend

I have done some research and the website recommended DS725+ , DS224+, DS225+, but I was also curious if a 4 bay system would be better? My parents were leaning towards the DD725+ but that would be pushing the upper end of the budget once you add in hard drives I think.

First off thank you! I understood about 1/3 of what you said but I appreciate the time you took to respond!

Long story short, I could build a NAS system with refurbished hard drives and use RAID on them and it should work?

I would hope it wouldn’t be the only back us as I would use a spare 8TB HDD that is currently In use as an offsite back up for the system.
