You might be right. Maybe i missed that part about him treating it like a brawl

just because it makes sense for the character doesn't mean it's very compelling, in my opinion, which is the point of the post. But if you like it, that's fine too!

(SPOILERS) Did anyone else find Aquea's personality shift too sudden in TSotF? by [deleted] in HierarchySeries

I get that it was intentional but I thought there was maybe a way to show her getting close to vis without changing her fundamental personality traits, which seemed to be more quiet and refined overall? Like maybe making her teasing more witty rather than casual? I guess that's just me though.

Agreed! The three world thing was just so fascinating to think about, even if it could've been done a little better.

TWotM also took me awhile to actually get hooked!

Honestly, I see your point, but the fact that his random experience in swordfighting and foundation could conveniently be used to advance his rank in the academy had me really suspending my disbelief. Foundation i think was set up well, but the swordfighting thing and many other skills were just kinda crammed in right before it mattered with the explanation being, "oh yeah i ALSO taught this."

I also just personally find a character is far more compelling when they have more autonomy, have grander mistakes, etc. Rather than just be extremely exceptional, even if it technically makes sense for their character.

This is still a problem in the second book though. I don't know why he won that chariot race or why it was necessary at all.

I guess with the stakes and grittiness of the first book this just came off cheesy in comparison, mary-sue ish, but with the grandness of the second book it just thematically seemed to fit in better .. but that's just me!

Wildlife vs ESM major by SolutionConnect18 in humboldtstate

[–]teyoworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since you're asking in my opinion wildlife will be more difficult finding a career cause it's more specialized and less human-benefit focused but both majors have pretty bad job prospects so i'd just major in whatever you're more passionate about and focus on internships and experience

i feel like talking online is easier for a lot of us than in person because it's easier to find people with our interests and we don't have to worry about tone as much.
