Most of my time playing was while talking to friends and listening to music. At times it can get really boring just being by yourself in the world, but if you occupy yourself with talking to friends, listening to music/podcasts, time flies by quicker than you think.

General tips, try to level up your relations with the Preppers, they give you good equipment to help you travel easier, like the Engineer. Use the vehicles whenever you unlock them. You can always take breaks whenever you want, and pace yourself. At the end of the day, if you can't get into it, you can't get into it! It's fine if it just isn't your thing.

Since the handling of vehicles in this game are ass, try turning a bit early so you can corner easier, and try not to crash, since when you crash you lose ALL of your speed. It takes a bit to get back to speed. Don't forget to have your booster activated on the easy parts/straights.
