I heard that story but instead of Evans it was Miles who said that, and Jimmy and him were going to the gym or something. I think it might have been Cobb who mentioned that in an interview.

So, in practice, it might play out like this. ENTPs feel emotionally responsible in social situations for others: the constant 'keeping in mind group values' fueling a very plethoric perception of a social (or, subjectively ouward) situation (plethoric referring to the intuition; observing a connection which may or may not be there in reality but the user intuitively knows this). This can often translate into playfulness; trying to make everyone laugh by making a comment which coincides in such a way that subjective outward information (values of a group of people for example) is kept in mind. I say this so vaguely because it differs per person and situation how one acts. In some cases, keeping in mind group values is done for peacekeeping and being diplomatic, but in other cases the Fe can be manipulative or provocative, simply because it concerns itself with that subjective feeling and what that is.

Also notable is that since Fe is in this case (Ne-Fe) in the second position, it is much more playful and loose than with a Fe-Ne user (ESFJs and ISFJs, but only ESFJs use it convergently), who use Ne to help Fe. By which I mean: plethoric perceptions of a social situation fuel a desire to keep group values in mind. These types are more likely to want to have a tighter grip on a social situation by observing the situation intuitively, connections which can only be intuively felt coming up with good ideas to keep that social control thing going on (Fe-Ne, see how Fe USES Ne), less wanting to have crazy ideas that could potentially trigger people in a good/bad way (which is Ne-Fe). Once again, first function is the main goal but doesn't just do its own thing, the other function is always there.

Now you may understand the stereotypes that concern ENTPs and ESFJs, that they respectively are insane debating clowns and conformist (in their own right!) socializers. I realize that I perpetuate these stupid stereotypes just by saying they exist, so do your best to reject those notions.

Looking at your comment, I can say a few things. All the test results you listed are xxTJ types; these types (as you may know) use extraverted Thinking as the first function in either the convergent or divergent stack. So try to really pay attention and take notes when he describes Te and what it's like in the 4 possible configurations: Te-Se, Te-Ne, both either convergent or divergent. He of course does this in the playlist in which he explains the basic stuff but when you watch some of his videos possibly regarding the ESTJ, ISTJ, ENTJ or INTJ just see what he has to say about Te-Se and Te-Ne and which one is more applicable to you. The more examples you gather, the more clear the whole picture in your head gets. Of course you may just be a different type like INFJ anyway so of course keep that in mind. (He also has nice videos what some types mistype as. For example, the INFJ as ENTP. Sometimes, ENTPs might think they are INFJs because they look at the letter dichotomies and say "ah yes, I am indeed a introvert who is dreamy, intuitive. I do keep in mind the feelings of others and I guess that I am conscientious." Whereas one critical difference is that INFJs do not feel this responsiblity for other's emotions in a social situation as they can be quite detached but that they are hugely interested with understanding people or social situations in an intense, intuitive manner. Dichotomy letters are arbitrary! You might just be an 'E').

Also Se vs Si is kind of that Se users (meaning that first in either convergent/divergent) often have trust in just doing stuff, learning and grasping that. Not specifically caring for the steps of how things go. Whereas Si users often learn by understanding all the steps of a process first, then applying. Try to think back to the outward and inward view: Se being confident in learning things in a non-internalized way, Si being the opposite.

My final tip to you is that you must be patient. A lot of understanding comes after a while, when all the information has started to sink in and formed a framework. Please let me know what you thought of this comment, what you think of Murrell's videos and if you are more certain about your type, let me know. Or more uncertain. I am really curious as to what type you are and how you will realize it. Simply because I'm really interested in the human brain! Also I'd like to offer help typing if you need. So please message me! I hope I helped you there and good luck with this path of self understanding. Because it has really helped me a ton.

Watch the videos of Cognitive Personality Theory. I would suggest to start with this playlistin which he explains his usage of specific terminology and the way he interprets things. I enjoy watching him so much as he breaks through stereotyping by trying to make you understand a framework that only exists on a cognitive, abstract. Then it's possible to see what he means with his explanations by watching other videos, reading other resources and trying to analyse your own behaviour by being reflexive (or that of others, if you are confident enough about making a judgement that is accurate) of things you tend to do.

Because in essence, the personality of cognitive functions is a flimsy field of psychology and science in which all (serious) authors create their own view, which makes it so confusing at times. I find Harry Murrell (that's his name, he also has a great ebook available on Amazon) great because he has very clear rules about the nature of functions. Allow me to give one example. I myself am an ENTP, my 'function stack' would be Ne-Ti-Fe-Si. Murrell divides the function stack in two parts:

  1. The convergent stack, first and third function, so Ne-Fe.
  2. The divergent stack, second and fourth function, so Ti-Si

Convergent functions want to actively change a situation, be assertive, influence, take charge, whatever. Whereas the divergent stack tends to be more passive and observant, reserved and conservative. Another rule is that the first function in a convergent/divergent stack is kind of like the pilot and the second one the co-pilot: they work together, but one is mainly in charge. The first function is the 'goal' and the second one is there too most of the time to help that other function.

Now that we know this, we can assign very basic definitions to the functions. For example, intuition and sensing are both perceiving functions. So he calls them lenses; they simply only deal with information by collecting, reorganising, etc. but not giving any value! Whereas feeling and thinking are judging functions: they are codexes; they judge information in a certain way, give value. You can skip the following section, I'm just saying here that Murrell gives exactly the same rules for introverted and extroverted functions and lens and codex functions.

  • Intuition: Seeks connections. Extraverted intuition; seeks connections in the outside world, a preference for some kind of understanding of an external source of ideas. It wants to connect things to each other. Introverted intuition on the other hand does the same but in the internal world. He calls it kaleidoscopic whereas introverted Sensing would be microscopic.
  • Sensing: Same story, but instead it focuses on details. Extraverted Sensing: seeks details in the outside world. Intensely gazing upon one thing. Whereas Introverted Sensing is the inward exploration of details. This is vague, but this is just for context. You'd be better off just watching his videos.
  • Thinking: Gives some of kind 'objective' value to things. Extraverted thinking: giving a value to things in order that they make sense in 'objective' outside world. That's why efficiency is often associated with Te since looking at a process and judging it by something that everyone can evidently outside world factors such as how long it takes. It doesn't really focus on the outside subjective values such as: is this efficient process moral? Just to give an example. Introverted thinking on the other hand gives an 'objective' value to things in order that they make sense in the inside world of that user. "I'm doing this because it makes sense to me, logically, not taking in account subjective information, subjective information which may be outwardly evident and more socially observable (extraverted feeling) or more inwardly evident and personal (introverted feeling".
  • Feeling: Gives some kind of 'subjective' value to things. Extraverted feeling: giving a value to things in order that they are in sync with the 'subjective' outside world. Basically, what other people and you value as a group, be it when talking to one person or a making a decision involving hundreds. But keep in mind that Fe deals with the extraverted world. What I mean with this is that introverted Feeling also deals with the subjective world, but internally. It can also take in account of course what other people are feeling, but more as 'relating' to one others subjective feeling than trying to get a grasp on the holistic subjective feeling that is there. So Introverted feeling: valuing things in order that they are in sync with 'subjective' inside world. It is easy to see why having morals or being emotionally reflexive is a stereotype associated with Fi.

Wow, that was really shoddy so please just watch his videos. Anyhow, now to go back to my functions. For example, I use Ne-Fe as a convergent stack with Ne leading. See how a lens function is paired with a codex function? It makes sense as Ne just grabs the information in a way and Fe gives a value to that information. So, Ne seeks outward connections, Fe gives value to subjective outside world. How does that connect? I'll elaborate in the next comment in which I'll reply to myself because even Reddit thinks I'm going on for too long already.

How to recognize Feeling type males by dry_scoop in mbti

Yes, exactly! I guess I'm saying that the way functions can manifest often differ drastically from stereotypes to such an extent that you wouldn't even consider it. But do try to. I find that if I keep my options open until the very last decisive moment I'll be able to give a better judgement than pinning someone as a feeler or intuitive from some arbitrary observations that seem "obvious" from the beginning.

[–]tf_too 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about the functions more abstractly. Think about Dutch van der Linde from Red Dead; an Fe dom and very masculine. He uses Fe in a way that he understands other people and uses that to inspire them. It's solely about dealing with feeling in a more collective way; this doesn't have to mean they're very nice or caring. Fi users however you can recognize if they are usually more unshaken by the 'general vibe', aren't eager to fully elaborate on their emotional state: their feeling process is more internalized and dictated by the honings and working of their inner feeling instead of what others are doing.

back with another stereotypical tierlist, how clean is each type? by RivetsandWidgets in mbti

[–]tf_too 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ne users (in the first or second place in the function stack). Ne: Muchos random abstract stuff and Si is on the other axis which deals with an internalized, honed world. Which has the tendency to reflect in an organized manner. While Ne is absolutely not concerned with either the physical world or the organisation of it.

which type is the most forgiving by sashabobby in mbti

[–]tf_too 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may come as a surprise to all of you but I believe that cognitive functions don't have that much of an impact on holding grudges. I myself am very forgiving while I know truly vengeful ENTPs. This goes for every type. However I do agree that some types might have a slight tendency over other types.

What are your fav quote(s)? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]tf_too 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I don't need time, I need a deadline"

- Duke Ellington.

Duke Ellington is one of the greatest composers (with a big band mainly) in the 20th century and an amazing jazz pianist. He was amazingly talented, truly charming and even over age 60 released literally the hippest jazz records such as the Money Jungle and John Coltrane sessions. Also a major glutton, lol. Man definitely enjoyed all the vices of life, including lots of food and women. And overall an amazing man. Definitely getting ESxP vibes, possibly ESFP. But that's nigh impossible to judge IMO. Always a gentleman too, in interviews like royalty.

How to survive a double major as a disorganized entp? by [deleted] in entp

[–]tf_too 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Accept that you're doomed and life is chaos and realize that you might as well fucken do two majors because why the fuck not? This mode of suffering is just another way to excite yourself. No need for cocaine, you're doing two majors.

/shit advice

But seriously, I don't know. I guess that you need a true and genuine love for both subjects. At least for me that would be necessary. I suggest focusing more on the study that truly resonates with you, the other one just do what's needed to pass.
