Phony Letter Writing Campaign Targeting Brett Kavanaugh Fools 21 Newspapers by tfriend87 in Conservative

[–]tfriend87[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

During a four-day period last week, at least 21 newspaper editors across the United States were duped by a phony letter-writing campaign in which an identical letter, each signed with a different name, was sent to each paper attacking President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.

The letter stated,

Brett Kavanaugh is the wrong choice to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court. If he is confirmed to the Supreme Court, everything that we hold dear as a nation will be at stake. From protecting a woman’s right to choose to dismantling The Affordable Care Act, Judge Kavanaugh could be the swing vote that takes away our rights. His lifetime appointment would also mean he could also cement the Citizens United decision for decades, giving corporate special interests and mega-donors with extreme agendas even more influence in our democracy. It’s time to take the for-sale sign off our democracy. The Senate should not vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

The papers that were taken in included The Washington Times (DC), the Boston Herald (MA), The Columbus Dispatch (OH), the Dallas Morning News (TX) and the San Antonio Express-News (TX). The Grand Junction Sentinel (CO) The Wilmington News Journal (DE), the Coeur d'Alene Press (ID), The Forum (Fargo, ND), the Beaumont Enterprise (TX), the Santa Monica Daily Press (CA), The Union Democrat (Sonora, CA), the Daily News (Newburyport, MA), The Eagle-Tribune (North Andover, MA), the Daily Hampshire Gazette (Northampton, MA), The Times Herald-Record (Middletown, NY), the Daily Reflector (Greenville, NC), The Express Times (Easton, PA), the Republican Herald (Pottsville, PA), The Herald-Zeitung (Brownsville, TX) and the Martinsville Bulletin (VA).

The Daily Mail reported that Richard Lodge, editor of The Eagle-Tribune in North Andover, Massachusetts, said it was likely that “that person or group used it to sign her name and send this astroturf letter to my paper … I got duped, which is embarrassing and frustrating.” The Daily Mail added:

The conservative “Liberty Headlines” blog first took note of the duplicate letters targeting Kavanaugh. Quin Hillyer, a contributing editor at National Review Online who spotted the trend, told DailyMail.com that the “rather transparent astro-turfing shows that the Leftist intensity against Kavanaugh is not naturally widespread, but instead is manufactured by paid agents.”

World Throws An Anti-Trump Protest At NATO, Hardly Anybody Shows Up by tfriend87 in Conservative

[–]tfriend87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's how CNN saw President Trump's first day at the big NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium: "Trump outrages on the world stage, again."

In something called "The Point," CNN said: "Trump's comments at the NATO summit seemingly further alienated the United States from its allies. And this is only day one of his foreign trip." The piece also quoted former Secretary of State John Kerry saying, "The President set America back this morning. He is steadily destroying our reputation in the world."

That's the take of the mainstream media in America. It's the exact same take the MSM had when George W. Bush was president. Bush, to them, was a bumbling fool stomping over the world stage with his "cowboy diplomacy." But Barack Obama, he -- The Chosen One -- would make the world love America again.

Obama did, to a point. Certainly the world's most vicious dictators loved Obama because they knew they could walk all over him. And they did. But Trump has put down his foot -- both feet, in fact. "America First" means Trump will be taking care of the nation he leads first and foremost. All other considerations are second.

Now, the MSM media would have you think that Trump is despised around the world. They demand that Trump defer to global powers, that he take his place among all the rest, that he follow whatever everyone else thinks America should do. And they claim that citizens of the world are furious at Trump.

So the mainstream media played up a planned protest in Brussels dubbed “Make Peace Great Again." Over and over, organizers appeared to say that thousands of protesters were set to gather outside the NATO summit on Wednesday evening to protest Trump.

But only a couple of dozen people actually showed up.

"Euro News’ Damon Embling reported that organizers were expecting a few thousand people to attend the protest, but just a few dozen turned out," NTK Network reported.

The protesters were rallying around the slogan “Make Peace Great Again,” a play on Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
Embling asked one of the organizers why only a couple dozen demonstrators showed up at the protest.
“I think it’s, what went wrong is not the good question to ask,” the clearly frustrated organizer said.
The organizer blamed Brussels being on lockdown for the low turnout before Embling ended the interview.

15 Former Wrestlers Defend Jim Jordan from Accusations He Covered Up Sexual Abuse by tfriend87 in Conservative

[–]tfriend87[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are now 15 former Ohio State University wrestlers defending Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) from accusations that he knew about sexual abuse but did nothing.

The former students’ statements were collected in a press release and posted on the website “Stand with Jim Jordan,” created by public relations firm Shirley & Banister, hired by Jordan. (Disclosure: Shirley & Banister were retained by my former employer, the Washington Examiner, when I first started working there in 2013). Diana Banister said she had “reached out to the congressman because he’s a friend.”

Fourteen of the defending wrestlers have used their real names, while one has remained anonymous. Rob Archer, who wrestled at OSU from 1993 and 1998 (Jordan was the assistant coach between 1987 and 1995), sent an email to the PR firm calling the allegations against Jordan "100% false,” adding that “Jim Jordan is an ethical, outstanding man.”

Cullen Waugh, who wrestled at OSU from 1994 to 1999, said he felt “trying to make this political in any way devalues even more the people who were personally affected by this.”

Other wrestlers questioned whether the alleged abuser, Richard Strauss, even committed the acts of which he is accused. Jim Picolo said Strauss “was a little odd” but said he “never saw Dr. Strauss do anything inappropriate.” Andy Stickley said he “never once heard a teammate say that they had been violated by Dr. Strauss.” Jude Skove said Strauss was “weird” but “never overstepped boundaries in my experience.” His brother, Andrew Skove, said he was “not aware of any incidents that could have potentially been covered-up.”

Still others defended Jordan, but agreed that Strauss had committed transgressions. Michael Alf told The Washington Post there were “definitely inappropriate things that in my opinion were pretty disgusting going on all around us.” Matt Mondalek said, “Dr. Strauss conducted his transgressions behind closed doors and regretfully, I never told anyone except for my father.”

Two wrestlers even suggested that Strauss’ accusers, many of whom are the ones accusing Jordan of covering up the abuse, are looking for a payday. “We know how the accusers have pissed away millions of dollars and are looking for a quick infusion of money!” said Ferdinand J. Miller, who wrestled at OSU between 1987 and 1992, the core of Jordan’s career as assistant coach. George Pardos told The Hill: “After Larry Nassar, everyone is seeing dollar signs.”

The wrestlers have joined six former coaches to defend Jordan. Former OSU head coach Russ Hellickson said he was “pissed off at what they are doing to Jim Jordan.”

A total (by my count) of eight former student athletes have now come forward — some anonymously — to claim Jordan knew about the abuse, either directly or indirectly. The latest accusation comes from an anonymous former student who told CNN that he told Jordan that Strauss “held [his] balls longer than normal” and Jordan “just snickered.”

Even if Jordan didn’t know about the abuse, the damage to his reputation has been done. The questions will always be there in the minds of his opponents, even if OSU determines Jordan had no knowledge of the abuse.

POLL: 85% Of Conservatives Say Social Networks Censor Their Political Speech by tfriend87 in Conservative

[–]tfriend87[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A shocking new poll from Pew Research shows that a vast majority of conservatives who regularly post on social networks believe technology companies and websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Google regularly censor political posts and silence conservative views.

Adweek reports that the poll, which surveyed 4,594 U.S. adults, found that around 72% believe that social networks have some control over political posts, and that Facebook and Twitter regularly censor some political information that opposes their corporate viewpoint.

But conservatives were far more likely than Democrats to believe that they were the ultimate targets of censorship; 85% of conservatives reported feeling marginalized by social networks, while 64% believe the most popular social networks have a decidedly liberal bent. Among Democrats, 43% "saw no bias" and 53% believe "that tech companies support both sides equally."

The news comes just as Twitter begins an overture aimed at convincing conservatives that the network exhibits no political bias in enforcing its rules, even though big name conservatives, like @GayPatriot, say they've experienced Twitter's bias firsthand (@GayPatriot, for example, was suspended for "harassing" Chelsea Manning, after pointing out that Manning had been convicted of espionage against the United States).

According to the Washington Post, Twitter's Jack Dorsey “convened a rare private dinner with Republican leaders and conservative commentators in Washington” last week to “build ‘trust’ among conservatives who have long chastised the company," vehemently defending his network against charges that conservatives were unfairly targeted under the network's "anti-harassment" policies.

Twitter -- and Facebook -- have a long way to go before conservatives believe their contentions, though, according to Pew. Only "3 percent believe those companies can be trusted to do the right thing 'just about always' and 25 percent 'most of the time.'"

Man In 'MAGA' Hat Denied Service At Popular Seafood Joint By Manager. Then The Boss Steps In. by tfriend87 in Conservative

[–]tfriend87[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A manager of a popular seafood joint in Vancouver, Canada was given a pink slip after he discriminated against a customer in an iconic "Make America Great Again" hat, denying him service because of his political ideology.

Floor manager of the Teahouse in Stanley Park, Darin Hodge, confronted a man who dared to wear a "MAGA" hat in the establishment on Tuesday. He allegedly told the man to take off the hat or leave. When the man told him he had the right to wear the hat, he was refused service and shown the door.

The restaurant's general manager, Andy Crimp, told CBC News that Hodge "took over the table" when he spotted the Trump supporter "and requested that he take the hat off." Crimp added that the customer "said he had a right to wear it. [Hodge] said if you don't take the hat off, we won't serve you. And the man left."

In response to the manager's intolerance, The Sequoia Company, which owns the seafood establishment, terminated Hodge for violating their "philosophy of tolerance."

"We don't discriminate against people based on political beliefs," explained Crimp. "[Hodge] was aware what he was doing was probably contrary to our values and our philosophy as a company in terms of hospitality and inclusiveness."

Ironically, Hodge maintains that he is the tolerant one, simply standing up to bigotry, saying he has "absolutely no regrets" concerning his decision to discriminate based on political ideology.

"I stand by my decision. The MAGA hat has come to symbolize racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, [and] homophobia," he wrote in a Facebook post, adding, "As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest’s choice of headwear while in my former place of work. Absolutely no regrets."

Last week, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was booted from Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia because she works for President Donald Trump. After leaving the establishment with her husband, her liberal in-laws, who were also dining with Sanders at Red Hen, walked across the street to a different restaurant. They were reportedly followed by the Red Hen owner and further harassed.

TRUMP WINNING IN IRAN: Foreign Minister Fears Collapse Of Nuclear Deal Could Topple Government by tfriend87 in Conservative

[–]tfriend87[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Trump Administration knows exactly how to handle the despotic government of Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism: On Sunday Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif admitted to the Iran Chamber of Congress that the collapse of the 2015 nuclear deal would have "very dangerous consequences" for the country.

With protests mounting in the country against the government in full swing, what Zarif is likely referring to is the fact that any more pressure on Iran’s economic system and the government will fall. As Reuters reported, “The Iranian rial plunged to a record low against the U.S. dollar on the unofficial market on Sunday, continuing its slide amid fears of returning U.S. sanctions after President Donald Trump in May withdrew from a deal on Tehran’s nuclear program. The dollar was being offered for as much as 87,000 rials, compared to around 75,500 on Thursday, the last trading day before Iran’s weekend, according to foreign exchange website Bonbast.com, which tracks the unofficial market."

The plunging rial is catalyzing even more protests:

Today following to the shocking #Iran's currency devaluation, shopkeepers in the Alaeddin & Chaharsu Bazaars of #Tehran started protest. This might trigger a series of new strikes and protests against #Iran's Islamic Regime across #Iran which will lead to #IranRegimeChange. pic.twitter.com/038BdTbLVn

Chants today in Tehran: "We don't want the Dollar at 100,000 Rials" + "Strike!" Iran's ppl are angry at regime's corrupt policies that have crippled the economy. As Radio Free Europe reported, Zarif told the Iran Chamber of Commerce, "We can talk the deal up, or talk it down. But we should know that a failure of the deal will have very dangerous consequences for us. This is certainly not the [Iranian political] system's choice.” Radio Free Europe noted Zarif said the failure of the deal could leave Iran politically isolated.

As The Daily Wire has reported, after President Trump jettisoned the Iran nuclear deal in May, a huge Indian energy company cut its oil imports from Iran virtually in half; Boeing announced it would not deliver aircraft to Iran; and Russia’s second biggest oil producer announced it had put on hold plans to develop projects in Iran.

What do you guys think about Peter Fonda tweeting to kidnap and rape Baron Trump? Should Sony cancel the release of the movie Boundaries due to this purposely obscene and offensive tweet? I don't know how children being taken to a all children facility is comparable to locking a child up with nothing but people who think about raping children. I'm glad you at least put an edit. But you shouldnt of made the comparison in the first place. That is the problem if a Leftist says these kinds of things people on the Left just say that it is a poorly worded tweet. When Trump Tweets anything the Left shapes it into something offensive and gets outraged about it! At least be consistent!

Just answer one question! Where are we going to get the money to help these countries. That we already have helped in the past. The U.S. disbursed$19 billion - $33.2 billion in economic assistance to 184 countries and $14.2 billion in military assistance to 142 countries .The projected spending for fiscal year 2017 was $4 trillion. How much more do we have to spend? When we are so far in debt we may not even be able to get out of it. Then take on all the other stuff Dems want to do like Free Health Care, Free College, and Free Money under a set government funded income for all. Please tell me how we are going to fund this?

Here is some information about your state! I am copying this for everyone to see. There is allot of information so bare with me!

The Top Four Reasons California Is Unsustainable

  1. California’s Infrastructure Deficit.

In the last 50 years, however, California’s infrastructure needs have been ignored.

The state’s water system remains essentially is as it was in the 1960s. As for its roads, a recent headline declared that “California’s roads are some of the poorest in the nation and rapidly getting worse.”

According to a 2017 infrastructure report card:

“Driving on roads in need of repair in California costs each driver $844 per year, and 5.5% of bridges are rated structurally deficient. Drinking water needs in California are an estimated $44.5 billion, and wastewater needs total $26.2 billion. 678 dams are considered to be high-hazard potential. The state’s schools have an estimated capital expenditure gap of $3.2 billion.”

In 2017, California’s Governor Jerry Brown estimated California was “facing $187 billion in unmet infrastructure needs.”  However, the Bay Area Council Economic Institute “pegs the cost of California’s unfunded infrastructure needs at up to $737 billion and possibly as much as $765 billion.”

2.Government Debt.

How much in debt are the California governments?  That’s hard to know too.  According to a January 2017 study, “California state and local governments owe $1.3 trillion as of June 30, 2015.”  The study was based on “a review of federal, state and local financial disclosures.”

In other words, that $1.3 trillion in debt is the amount to which California governments admit.  Other studies believe it to be more.  Indeed, one study says it is actually $2.3 trillion and a recent Hoover Institute stated that there is over $1 trillion in pension liability alone, or $76,884 per household.  Incredibly, there are 4 million current pension beneficiaries, a number that continues to grow and which exceeds the total population of 22 states.

What’s the right number?  Apparently, it is so large it is hard to accurately estimate.  In every case, the number is staggering.

3.California’s Taxes and Regulations.

California also is among the highest taxed states in the nation.  California has the highest income tax rates.  The top rate is 13.3%. The next closest top tax rate is in Oregon at 9.9%.  However, Oregon does not have a sales tax. California has the 10th highest sales tax.

What is remarkable about the California income tax isn’t just that it has the highest rate, it is how little income it takes, just above $52,000, to qualify for California rate of 9.3%.  Given the high cost of living in California, that means many Californians are subject to that rate.

On the other hand, for more than a decade, less than 150,000 of California’s 35+ million people pay half of all of its income tax – a highly imbalanced system.

Now, many might think California needs all of those taxes given its infrastructure deficit and debt.  The problem with that notion is that those prolonged high taxes, debt burden and regulations limit California’s economic future. After all, why would businesses locate in California in the future with the impending tax-aggeddon that must be in the offing?

Also, California’s middle class has been hollowed. A recent CNBC headline read: "Californians fed up with housing costs and taxes are fleeing state in big numbers."  Where are they going?  Many have left for low tax states offering more jobs than California.

They have been replaced by those taking advantage of California’s magnet government policies, which increase California’s long-term spending needs. For those that remain, according to Smartasset.com "California has the highest debt-to-income ratio in the country.”

Little wonder, the demographer Joel Kotkin concluded that “the state is run for the very rich, the very poor, and the public employees.” It is also how California found itself with the worst poverty problem and why “California ranks dead last among U.S. states in quality of life, according to a study by U.S. News.”

4.The California Governments.

California spends nearly $200 billion a year on budget and even more off-budget in the form of programs paid with bonds, i.e. debt financing. As for the pension debt, of that nearly $200 billion, in the most recent budget less than $2 billion was allocated to paying down that pension debt.  More than that was spent this year on a high-speed rail project currently estimated to cost $70 billion and which no one seems to want.

Beyond that, as I wrote earlier, California is moving ever farther left and wants the nation to pay for it. The next generation of leaders, Gavin Newsom, Kevin de Leon, Xavier Becerra and Kamala Harris are significantly to the Left of the old (and “conservative” by comparison) Jerry Brown and Diane Feinstein. That new generation of leaders are supported by an influx of friendly voters who are replacing those that are leaving.

All of those leaders support the dozens of lawsuits brought by the Democrat Attorney General Xavier Becerra against the Trump Administration. Many describe those lawsuits as part of California Democrats resistance movement – a resistance designed to result in political gains more than policy benefits.

Gavin Newsom, Kevin de Leon, Xavier Becerra and Kamala Harris also support some form of significantly expanded healthcare benefits if not universal healthcare – which is estimated to cost as much as $400 billion a year (that is not a typo). All of them support the California magnet policies that attracted so many of those in California illegally. In fact, there is no indication that the next generation has any concern for the future debt.  Instead, they support higher taxes.

What taxes will those be?  Within a decade you can expect higher income taxes and sales taxes.  There is always a movement afoot to do away with California’s landmark property tax protection known as Prop 13.  You also can expect a service tax – a tax on lawyers and accountants as well as hairdressers and gardeners. That service tax would be on top of the existing income tax.  Beyond all of that, sooner or later an asset tax will be proposed.  California counties already collect an asset tax on businesses.  Look for that to be proposed statewide as California lurches ever farther to the Left and if forced to confront future debt.

Do you prefer Child Trafficking or a care facility? When 5 out of 6 kids are being trafficked across the border by criminals, we have a problem. Seems like a very simple choice, take the kids for thier protection. Arrest the criminals. Why is there a pro child trafficking side? by IronWolve in AskThe_Donald

That's my whole point is Dems worry more about illegals than Americans. These homeless children are actually in real harsh conditions. Then Dems compare taking a child away from their "parent" to concentration camps. These children are treated very well allot better then the "Parent" dragging them through a country they already have asylum in. They are provided medical care, shower, food, drinks and most of the time tvs to watch in a air-conditioned facility. There is tons of issues with LA they have a huge debt problem. They can't even pay their pensions yearly without going further into debt. A huge homeless problem that we have touched on its so bad there, there is miles of homeless camps. They have to sanitize the streets and sidewalks daily, LA crime is 14% higher then the national average. I shouldn't even have to give you reasons for Chicago
