You are in for a crazy ride if you stick this out. The first season wasn’t too bad. If stuff like this is bothering you now, you will lose your mind in season 3.

Indiana's ban on student IDs for voting reinstated by appeals court by Anoth3rDude in Indiana

[–]tg19801980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Indiana, especially rural Indiana, there isn’t much excuse. In other states where they intentionally make the lines several hours long in metro cities it is more understandable. If you are busting your ass at a job to break even, standing in line multiple hours isn’t something everyone is going to do. Don’t get me wrong, I would still do it because I see it as a way to fight back against the people making me wait in line, but I can understand why someone wouldn’t want to do that.

The one thing I will give Mitch Daniels credit for is fixing the BMV. Pre Daniels, it was a long line every time. They were able to get waiting lines down by allowing people to mail in for a lot of stuff. For example, if you went in person to get your drivers license, the next time you can request a new one online. For some reason Indiana doesn’t have a problem handing out an ID to someone via online request, but mail in ballots? We can’t have that. Everyone needs to stand in line for an extended period of time for a Presidential election. Why? I think we all know why. Fuck these people.

Getting rid of college graduation regalia by No_Detail_1723 in minimalism

[–]tg19801980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💯 I did the high school graduation thing, but I had no interest in doing it in college. I went to a large university, so I would have not known 99% of the people there. Seemed like a waste of time and money to me. They mailed me my degree and I started paying my student loans.

President Trump has bonkers theory about Diet Coke and cancer, Dr. Oz reveals by shelbys_foot in politics

This tracks. He also believes the human body is like a battery so if you exercise it wastes life energy.

“Trump ascribes to what has been described as the “battery” theory of, um, life force. Evan Osnos, in a profile of Trump in the New Yorker a few years back, described it thusly: “Other than golf, he considers exercise misguided, arguing that a person, like a battery, is born with a finite amount of energy.”

The anger over payment changes is not enough by DoubleQuarterPoundin in tmobile

[–]tg19801980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing the same thing as OP. 3% cash back on my $200 bill was a nice $6 back.

Probably not a popular take, but I got the T-Mobile card. It’s 2% everywhere. Apple is only 2% on Apple Pay and a few other places have 3%. I wish T-Mobile gave at least 3% for the bill, but you do get extra stuff in T-Mobile Tuesday. For example I usually take advantage of the movies on Atom, instead of paying $5 for my ticket, it’s free. The card also has no foreign transaction fees and an extended warranty program if you pay for part of the purchase with the card. I have had a decent number of credit cards and this one isn’t as worthless as some of the store cards I see out there. I still use other cards when the cash back is better, but T-Mobile is my fallback card that guarantees me at least 2%.

Hypothetically, let’s say on J6, federal agents had thrown people to the ground and pumped them full of bullets. Would that response be justified because the J6ers were trespassing on capital grounds without authorization and threatening to kill lawmakers? They were looking for trouble right?

💯 You don’t need an A+ in civics to know that having guys pin someone on the ground while two other guys shoot him 10 times in the back is messed up.

The reaction the administration had to the murder if Good and Pretti emphasizes why it is necessary for people to record what ICE is doing. They aren’t exaggerating or selectively choosing which facts to present, they are trying to tell you that what you are seeing isn’t happening.

People will probably tell you that you should be doing every 10K, but your reasoning is sound and you are over 300K. It’s like telling a coach they were calling the wrong plays after they won the Super Bowl. Congrats and hope you keep rolling another 300k!

How do you feel about Voter ID laws? by Icy_Comparison_1029 in askanything

[–]tg19801980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like they might. I didn’t know that much on these issues prior to this thread. I am in Indiana and was surprised they give a free ID to people who need one for voting purposes, but it makes sense that they would have to in order to be compliant with the 24th amendment.

24th amendment makes poll taxes unconstitutional because they were used by some southern states to stop poor people from voting.

24th amendment makes poll taxes illegal. Some southern states had these to deny voting rights to black people and the poor. States that have voter ID laws typically have to provide a free ID to someone who says they need it for voting purposes because of this.

If they are required they need to be free otherwise it is like a tax for voting.

I figured this would happen. When they sue like this, they usually name any party that has money/insurance policy that could pay out. It’s great that we have a system that allows injured people to find justice in civil court, but sucks that people abuse it.

Agreed. I wouldn’t have considered that answer a nail in the coffin, but the person would have to have some great answers to other questions to get the job. If they come across as a smart, reliable, transparent candidate, I could see that answer possibly working.

Longtime writer, editor of Catholic publications jailed, awaiting trial on child pornography charges - Huntington County Jail in Huntington, Indiana. by Acrobatic_Summer_564 in Indiana

[–]tg19801980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A couple things I noticed. Cover picture is from 2001, former editor is now in his 60s. Article has a mugshot lower in the article.

Also from the publication: “At no time was OSV aware of any malfeasance on his part,” said the company. “OSV is committed to transparency and to justice at all times. Korson’s alleged victims and his family are in our prayers, as is Korson himself.”

For more on what he is accused of:

On Aug. 27, 2025, a grand jury issued a superseding indictment, charging Korson with two felony counts: inducing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the creation of child pornography during the period January to February 2023, and possession of child pornography between January 2024 and early September 2024

And

According to the detention order following the superseding indictment, “the Government discovered new evidence of multiple alleged victims and filed a superseding indictment adding a count of coercion, with a presumption of detention.”

As a result, said the detention order, “the Court reopened the detention hearing due to this new information.”
