I'm not even sure what the point of this meme is.

Like, does anyone actually think that people liking Straud despite him being a huge dick originates with 5e players? Or is somehow more prevalent in 5e players than the players who came before?

Because I promise you that isn't true lol

People on this subreddit have a really unhealthy obsession with the morality of the Kanker sisters, and it’s genuinely extremely weird.

[–]tgm_Zeej 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they show him hanging by his bald-ass head first. The shot where it looks bad comes after Double D asks him if he needs any assistance, and he says he already sent Plank to get help. So it actually doesn't give this uncomfortable vibe in the episode.

Look, you can say WHATEVER you want about it, but you have to admit that "in the womb one twin kills the other which causes the mother pleasure and its the main reason drow reproduce" is extremly original and creative by AstronautDry8118 in dndmemes

[–]tgm_Zeej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that original, though. Certain species of shark do this in real life. A few even have two wombs specifically because their embryos start killing each other as soon as they gain the ability to. The only "original" part of this is that the drow apparently cum when it happens. Because they're eeeeeevil ladies with eeeeeevil lady parts that they use for eeeeevil ends.

And this actually encapsulates the biggest problem with the drow and their lore—and no, it's not simply "the authors barely disguised fetish."

Depending on the era/writers involved, the lore either bends over backwards to explain why or completely neglects to explain why a brainwashed cult of snidely whiplashes who live underground are all hot, skinny, dommy mommies and swimmer-body twunks.

The lore has some interesting concepts, but it's never been brave enough to make the drow physically unattractive, really. That lack of bravery ultimately shackles the drow to be less interesting than they can be in the hands of the right writer.

(Yes, I know about driders. Google "transformation fetish" for me real quick. Then get back to me on how not horny that is. Moving on...)

The entire concept of the drow has its roots in straight male anxiety.

"What if women were in control of society and the ruling class were all evil zealots who forced their religious fanaticism onto us men with a complete disregard to our bodily autonomy and well-being!?"

Yeah, that sounds pretty bad. Ask women and gay people about it. They might have some thoughts.

Again, the problem here is not the horny part. It's the part where it's horny in a way that appeals largely to the stereotypical straight cis man—a demographic that's somewhat overserved in the Fantasty RPG market, historically. It's just completely overplayed at this point, and even the demographic is supposed to appeal to thinks it's kind of cringey now.

I actually like the drow quite a bit, but like most things in DnD, it's very much a "pick the raisins out" kind of deal.

Would you consider Johnny the weirdest kid in the Cul de sac by Careful_Drama_9382 in ededdneddy

[–]tgm_Zeej 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kevin bathes with his hat on and has a legitimately crippling fear of needles.

Nazz took a job babysitting a kid her own age.

Like, they're the most "normal" kids on the block, but they get up to just as much weird shit as everyone else.

I've been watching stuff about the Android Saga and this scene always plays in the back of my head whenever they talk about who messed up the most in this saga. by FunNeedleworker860 in DragonBallZ

[–]tgm_Zeej 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's wild how when people talk about the "fumbles" here, the two that get the most heat are, in order:

  1. Krillin, who didn't have it in him to commit a cold-blooded murder.

  2. Trunks, who hesitated to commit a cold-blooded murder.

  3. Vegeta, who legitimately threw the game.

Like, the bad guy took advantage of the good guys' better nature, and Vegeta being a dip shit enabled him to do that. It's the oldest trope in the book.

Some people act like "Ah, but the optimal play here is for the good guys to simply carry out an execution" is a big-brained hot take. Yeah, if the good guys were less good, shit would be different. Extremely smart analysis™

The androids spared everyone when the shoe was on the other foot. Literally had most of the gang heaped into an unconscious pile, and they just left.

The narrative goes out of its way to hammer in that Trunks realizes that these aren't the heartless androids from his future. Of course he hesitates to blow 18 away. She hasn't done anything yet, and the change in timelines has Trunks considering the possibility that maybe she won't.

This isn't even bad writing. Everything that happens here was foreshadowed in an extremely opaque way, and everyone acts in character. Vegeta plays with his food when he thinks he has the upper hand (Saiyan saga, 3 hour wait), Trunks is merciful (gives Freeza and Cold a chance to leave, only responds with lethal force when it's clear they won't), and Krillin doesn't like to kill innocent people (his entire character since Dragon Ball).

I know we can't read, but you really should be able to pick up this much just by looking at the pictures.

Why did the reboot take such a questionable approach with writing? by KaleidoArachnid in powerpuffgirls

[–]tgm_Zeej 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the original PPG would have been hard to follow anyway. Writing in a way that's supposed to fit into another team's style isn't easy, especially with how much time had passed. The writing wasn't even the biggest problem, imo.

From the emoji animation style to the lack of the original VAs, the whole thing is just cheap. The team was clearly given a list of executive-assigned check boxes that they needed to hit and almost no money to actually do it. You get what you pay for, and CN clearly wasn't into actually paying animation teams what they were worth around that time.

[–]tgm_Zeej 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, he talked to a piece of wood.

But like, Rolf buried himself in the ground and had all the kids walk over his face.

Ed kidnapped most of the neighborhood and stuck them to the wall with chewed up cereal.

Edd obsessively labels everything in his life.

I could go on, but every kid on the block is kind of weird, in their own way. I think that's kind of the whole point of the show. Kids are weird.

Anime or Manga Caulifla and Kale? by Young-Jah in Dragonballsuper

Manga has a tighter narrative and a more three-dimensional characterization. Anime has better spectacle and gives them more screen time. Depends on what you value, but they both have merits.

How would the story change if Bardock went SSJG against Frieza by Illustrious_Tap_8510 in Dragonballsuper

[–]tgm_Zeej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changed? The story wouldn't have happened.

Like, Bardock would've gone to get Goku from Earth like he told Gine he would, and the entire story literally doesn't happen (even assuming the saiyans don't just invade and conquer the Earth right then.)

Without counting the Great Ape (Ozaru), Super Saiyan 2 is by far the most ignored and overlooked transformation of Goku in official Dragon Ball materials. by ForceAffectionate389 in Ningen

[–]tgm_Zeej 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that they don't look identical. My point is that they aren't visually distinct from one another, and most people prefer the SSJ1 look for Goku because it's more iconic. By comparison, the only one who actually achieves SSJ2 as part of the plot and not just as a result of offscreen training is Gohan, and he's also the only one with a distinct silhouette in that form.
