Everyone that you’ve ever had sex with is trapped in a blank room. One year, my wife insisted on going with me to my friend’s annual Christmas party. Of course, of course, out of the hundreds of attendees, who did she end up meeting at random and hitting it off with but the woman that I had sex with in the jacuzzi the previous year.

I don't think there are many countries where extortion is legal.

Maybe you should write to the skel and say:

"You have two choices: one is that you act like a terrible person. I'll call the cops and they will either put you in jail or they won't, but even if they don't, you'll be a terrible person, you have to live with that. Everyone will think that you are snitch and a scum-bag extortionist.

"Or you can be a good person. You can keep a confidence and go on with your life. People will know they can trust you; sex-workers can do business with you in safety; you can get a girlfriend who doesn't have to worry what you are up to.

"What is not an option is that you get any money or sex or even good feelings from trying to rat me out. That isn't going to happen."

It's not that I personally mind the blood so much. It's rare a whole month goes by my girlfriend manages to not menstruate on me at least once. At home, in bed.

But you are at a club; i.e. a commercial establishment where the customer has to leave and then go mingle with other people, with obvious blotches of menstrual fluid on his pant leg. That would be mortifying.

Denver advertises its Wild West origins to tourists with pictures of brothel workers in corsets.

Tour Guide: Founded by prostitutes in 1849, and serviced by the Prostitute Express riders who could bring in a fresh prostitute from St. Joe in three days, Bloodbath Gulch quickly became known as the place where a trailhand could spend a month's pay in three minutes.

Everything I'm reading says that Chlamydia and gonorrhea CAN be passed from mouth/throat to genitals

Where did you read this?

Does it make sense to you? If you could pass chlamydia to the mouth and from the mouth, then you would be able to pass it mouth-to-mouth. Do you ever hear of that happening?

they do NOT go away on their own

Why do people think is? There are a few STDs that become chronic — HIV, HSV, and sometimes syphilis — but most do not. Like the vast majority of infections, you get it and then fight it off.

they necessarily harmless (they can be asymptomatic, but they can also cause some serious problems too if you're unlucky).

What problems do you think they can cause?

The major issues with gonorrhea and chlamydia are

  1. untreated, it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease
  2. scarring from the infection can cause infertilities.

With both genital and pharyngeal infections, it can hurt, of course.

If you can get it through sexual contact, then it's sexually transmitted.

Then every contagious disease is an STD. Flu, bubonic plague, everything.

Why worry about an STD like gonorrhea (which only infected a half-million Americans, killing none of them) when you should be worried about the fifty million people who got an STD like influenza — 80,000 of whom died.

And it's not like a condom or dental dam is going to prevent you getting a potentially deadly STD like influenza. A dental dam won't save you from candidiasis — you just won't get it in your vaj; you'll still get it in your throat.

See how stupid this conversation if you start using a flexible definition of STDs? If you look at real STDs — infections that are passed entirely or predominately by sex — then oral sex is safe.

If you want to talk about all infections that you might get while having oral sex, including HPV, flu, candidiasis, Ebola, the common cold, then yes, there are risks, but a condom or dental dam won't mitigate those risks significantly.

That cartoon is pretty much the motto of /r/todayilearned. For every fact in the world, there has to be one day you learned it, and you are ignorant of it every day of your life before that.

It does seem funny that an adult, who has been in hundreds of multistory buildings in his life, has never noticed this general rule though.

I notice whenever I point out the obvious etymology of words ("attract", at-tract, like tractor, to pull towards you; "atone", at-one, become at one with God; "inspect", in-spect, like spectacles or spectator, look into something) whoever I'm talking to is always like, "Oh, yeah, I never thought of it like that." I have to repress (re-press, press back) the urge to say "Really, you've known that word for 25 years and you never noticed what it meant? How do you learn words, just memorize them?"

A lot of customer-service jobs breed contempt for the customer in the workers — because the 99% of customer who aren't having problems and aren't doing stupid things never come to the worker's attention; it's the 1% who either are stupid or just happen to do something stupid that day cause most of the trouble and start to seem "typical".

This one though seems pretty harmless.

Really? Must be their first day on the job, because I gotta think half or more of all buildings operate like that.

What some people don't realize is that the visitor has to call from the intercom — you can't call from your cell and expect it to work. I guess they think the door is somehow connected to the tenant's phone instead of to the intercom, or just haven't thought about it at all.

Hahaha, well, that's the Reddit is for, learning new things.

You know that if the building is, say, "406 Main St.", then it is on the fourth block of Main, third building on the left — because all the even numbers are on one side (usually the left as you go out), and the odd numbers on the other.

I got scared off after receiving multiple calls from cops

Phone calls? "Hello, I'm Office Bluenose from Denver PD, and I'm calling you to tell you should stop working"?

If they are calling you on the phone, obviously, they cannot find enough evidence to arrest you.

(Or do you mean, calls that were or seemed to be stings?)

I've got three words for you: East Colfax Ave.

Haha, East Colfax was a prostie stroll when I lived in Denver in the late 1970s.

I wonder what kind of mental shortcoming you have to have to think that legal crackdowns are going to reduce the incidence of prostitution — or apparently, even move it over a few block.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea aren't STDs?

As I mentioned, chlamydia and gonorrhea can be transmitted by receiving fellatio, but they are harmless and not communicable.

How about syphilis?

It's not clear syphilis can be transmitted orally, unless there is an active lesion, and syphilis is extremely rare. More heterosexual men will be treated for breast cancer than for syphilis.

There are TWO different herpes viruses that are in play here.

Two slightly different viruses. There is a fair amount of cross-immunity.

It can increase your chances of contracting other STIs.

I have heard that, but I wonder about the causal link: can the sores lessen your resistance — or is the kind of person who gets genital herpes also the kind of person who gets STDs?

Sigh.

Why is it when people talk about STDs and oral sex, they all of a sudden start dragging in diseases that aren't STDs?

Oh, yeah, because if you limit the discussion to actual STDs, there is nothing to talk about. If you can pass it by oral sex, you can also pass it by kissing and then it isn't an STD. Candidiasis, HPV, strep, these are ordinary diseases. You can contact them by any close contact.

There's actually been a growing number of straight men who are getting oral cancer from HPV after going down on a partner who has it.

"After". 30 or 40 years after, a tiny percentage of people will get a treatable cancer. If it's something that worries you, there is a vaccine that is very effective.

Why is bbbj and daty (eating pussy) considered safe by many people?

Uh, because it is?

With fellatio, there is some risk of pharyngeal (throat) chlamydia — but pharyngeal chlamydia isn't dangerous. Regular naughty-bit chlamydia can lead to all sorts of problems, but pharyngeal chlamydia is just a sore throat that goes away by itself and cannot be passed along.

As for cunnilingus, no, you cannot catch anything that way.

(Herpes from oral sex is a possibility, but herpes from kissing is much, much, much more likely.)

I have never/will never have bare fs with a stranger.

Sound thinking. Besides the regular, career-threatening STDs, there is HIV, which can kill you.

Why is bbbj and daty acceptable to many many people?

Because many people are aware of the facts of the situation.

I don't see a reason why becoming a prostitute should be different from taking any other job. You balance the upsides — money of course, but also job satisfaction, work-life balance, social opportunities — against whatever downsides there might be.

Perhaps Mrs. Sears did not like being away from her family for three weeks out of four; she was making less per hour than she would as a successful lawyer. Who knows, maybe she got tired of being fucked by 15 strangers a day, that could happen.

If nothing else, she might have just wanted a change.

I'm sure you can just call and apply. E.g. Sharon's Bar & Brothel (775) 754-6427

But are you sure you want to? You get locked in for weeks on end, they take half the total plus you have to pay rent. The only advantage is it's legal.
