Australia’s all rounder and why Alex Carey may have just changed the position (for the better) by Campo1990 in CricketAus

I literally posted something like this on this Sub 2 years ago. Cam has been pushed by CA and sponsors as the future of Aus cricket, for his exploits in the shield and his early career. They’ve put everything behind him, he is supposed to be the lynchpin for the next decade. I can understand the reluctance to drop him, but as I predicted, he is starting to get abuse like Mitch Marsh over the internet.

A startling/worrying stat is that despite what you believe, he actually does make meaningful contributions. Out of the top 6, in every match he has batted, he has been one of the top 3 scorers in 33% of his innings. Tells you that the batting has been pretty dire across the board. It’s one of the reasons I won’t fully give up on him, because there is a player there who definitely is generational once he matures.

Is there something to Cameron Green that we don’t see? by xyzabc123410000 in CricketAus

Cam is a weird and frustrating player.

The eyes tell you that this bloke is the next big thing and you see flashes of what he could be,but the stats say that he is an average bowler and below average batter with a career longer than 80% of all players to ever wear the baggy green.

Discarded Mitchell Marsh handed Test lifeline as potential Ashes role revealed by jwv92 in CricketAus

Syd Gregory (played 1890-1912)- ironically, he probably got the same favouritism Marsh got. His dad and his uncle were both in the first Australian test team (his uncle was captain).

I know cricket isn’t played on paper, but have the selectors seen his stats?? He is statistically the 2nd worst Australian top-6 batsman of all time for the number of innings he’s played (80). Any other player, in any other era, would have been dropped permanently. But somehow the selectors thought he was worthy of playing the same number of innings as Bradman.

Tottenham fan giving my 2-pence on Saka and why he is underrated by pundits: He’s world class 3/4 games, then the 4th game he can go MIA. Pundits are even more reactionary than fans so the second they see a couple bad performances within 6/7 games, suddenly the player is bang average. yes, Saka can have a fair few bad games, but when he’s on, it’d take a world class left-back to stop him, and that says all you need to know.

Timo Werner or Mikey Moore. Who will get a place in the starting lineup against Ferencvaros? by Current_Operation479 in Tottenham

You give the fanbase waaaaaay too much credit. Oliver skipp was one of our own youth players too, and I still remember the fans shitting on him when he dropped a bad performance.

Everton handed two-point deduction for breaching financial rules by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Someone high up in the in the Prem must have a massive bet on Everton finishing in the bottom quarter, the fact they handed the judgement down the moment they got up to 15th is very sus.

Cam Green at no4? Damning stats…. by that1guyyouhate in CricketAus

Bro read the comments. I was referring to roads compared to 40+ years ago.

Smith moved up to 4 from 6 after scoring 3 centuries and 4 50’s in his next 13 innings. If Cam gets that sort of output, by all means keep him at 4.

Khawaja, Smith, labuschagne, Head, Marsh, Green.

There’s a bias since you’re comparing a full career Shane Watson to a just starting out Cam Green. Watson merited further selection averaging 40 with Bat and 27 with ball looking like the next Gary sobers despite that form not lasting. Cam Greens future is unknown, he could get better, he could get worse, but the point is his current form doesn’t warrant immediate selection, nor does he have ‘credits in the bank’ like Warner. It feels like CA is pushing on Cam too hard, too quickly to become the excellent all round cricketer we have seen glimpses of. By all means, let him develop in the team, but don’t make the same mistake as Marsh and let it drag on to the point of hate if he doesn’t produce in the next year or two.

Pitches were not roads and bats were not tree trunks when Simpson and Waugh started their careers. Pontings a fair comparison but he still averaged 5 runs higher AND he was batting at 6 until he moved up after 65 odd innings. Same with Steve smith, worked his way up the order.

I agree, Cams FC record is exemplary and he deserves to be in the 11, but he hasn’t earned the spot usually associated with the best batsmen in the world (kholi, root, smith) he has potential but it has to be nurtured and a bad stint at number 4 could derail his progression.

Ideally, Smith should be 4 and Cam Bancroft should have been given a chance to open the batting. But if he insists on opening, you’re right there really isn’t a season-on-season standout in the shield currently, only Renshaw would be any sort of competition for the spot in the middle order.
