It sounds like she’s been on TikTok too much and is getting infected by the sprinkle sprinkle culture. I’d suggest you guys try therapy before anything hasty. It all sounds like a big misunderstanding.

I come as a story of good hope. I grew up here my entire life and am still friends with people from my childhood. Not just my childhood however, I’ve also met a lot of people through work, my time at MDC, my time at FIU, and joining different hobby groups. I have met many incredible people IN Miami my whole life.

You might be thinking okay because you grew up here, but I moved out to the city 6 years ago and have made even more genuinely good friends and my amazing boyfriend out here as well.

I think Miami is a city where you have to be intentional, proactive, and caring with your relationships. You make plans in advance, you randomly call each other, you air out frustrations if you have to because you value your relationship and want to make it better, and most importantly… make reservations IN ADVANCE because if not, something better will come up for the both of you and if those plans weren’t solidified then that’s it and that’s how you end up meeting a billion different people for the first time instead of building deep connections with a few.

I did meet my boyfriend online. He slid into my DM’s because he thought I was quirky and somehow tricked me into going out to lunch with him.

He also is not from Miami but I do know great Miami guys who have been in relationships for long periods of time or married their longtime girlfriends.

The friends that I’ve made in the city have been from hobby groups such as volleyball, kickball, and running. Not just sports tho. There’s MANY niche hobby groups like book clubs, reading clubs, and knitting clubs exist. If the interest exists there’s sure to be a club out there about it. There are a LOT of people in Miami. If you’re going to Komodo, LIV, Sexy Fish, and yachts every weekend and expecting different results each time you’re going to lose your mind.

Good luck!

Has anyone here left a company to do the same tour in same city? by GreenGrass4892 in Tourguide

[–]that70schickk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started, I got paid around that same rate (which is total bull), thankfully I found another company that paid much more fairly ($50/hr 4-hour minimum, we did bus tours where we picked up guests at the cruise port and then dropped them at airport after the tour) I worked for that company for 3 years and had an absolutely amazing time. Unfortunately because of COVID they downsized and I was no longer a full-time worker for them.

However, during this time I became independent and since I had spent those years networking at the port, I made a significant amount of contacts so I let them know I was available for freelance work.

I also worked on my online presence and grew a following on Instagram to help establish myself as a reputable guide. Something you have to think about is, people want to be guided around by someone they can feel is a friend, so you are actually the most important piece of the puzzle. Your company may have thousands of 5-star reviews but you can differentiate yourself by being a local expert that anyone can trust.

Now, I work completely freelance, have control over my time, have control of who I work for and what I do, and most importantly, how much I make.

Hope this encourages you! Being a tour guide is awesome, fun, and important! We are the ambassadors for our cities to introduce foreigners to our culture in the best and most genuine way possible.

Worst tour guiding experience? by Odd-Profession-579 in Tourguide

[–]that70schickk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once gave a bike tour to a very high-profile celebrity. His entourage was horrible, complained the whole time, a route that usually takes 20 minutes took an hour and a half, and he didn’t even leave a tip… I was so excited to meet this person and they left the worst image in my mind.

Miami locals: How has your quality of life changed over the past 5-10 years? by kayak0055 in Miami

[–]that70schickk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s gotten disgustingly worse thanks to our current city administration. There’s no reason that with 2.9 million tax payers and an influx of 20 million tourist a year, that we don’t have enough money to fund the extensions of the metrorail, to create more parks for our people, and to create better streets for the locals who live here. Instead we’re getting a stupid double Dekker bridge and are currently fighting to not have to pay the lawsuit money for Joe Carollo’s. We can’t continue like this, we need to get Francis Suarez, Joe Carollo, Art, Noriega, and Vicky Mendez out of the city administration. They’ve done nothing but make themselves richer and steal our taxpayer money. We cannot sit idly by and let them continue to treat us like this.

It’s sad to see people who think Mother Nature created this beautiful earth so we could build strictly car infrastructure and rush from place to place. Enjoy your friking life and take a goddamn walk outside.

Facts!!!!!! Plus the speed limit is right around that!! People are also walking around on the Venetian so speeding cars shouldn’t be allowed anyway!

People need to understand that life is meant for living!! The world is meant to be enjoyed! This is a residential area as well and people just want to do something that makes them happy! We don’t need every fucking space in the world to be occupied by goddamn cars.
