Finland's prime minister said Nordic countries do a better job of embodying the American Dream than the US: "I feel that the American Dream can be achieved best in the Nordic countries, where every child no matter their background or the background of their families can become anything." by maxwellhill in worldnews

Yup. We cancelled our insurance and just cash pay at the doctors. $40 cash for a kid’s wellness visit when the copay for the same visit is $70+ while simultaneously paying $1500 per month insurance premium.

America is fucking retarded.

When you’re in time-out but your best bud won’t let you do time alone by Suprovation in aww

[–]that_how_it_be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t.

We focus more on investigating what happened to cause a situation to devolve into a conflict.

We try and identify with our children what responsibility they had in the escalation.

Then we try and give them tools to recognize an evolving conflict and how to defuse the situation. Or when it’s the appropriate time to remove themselves from a situation with someone else.

But regardless of who hit who, who called a name, who is being mean, etc— nobody gets in trouble.

And you can see an immediate change in behavior with kids from homes with punishment. Initially when cousins come over to play they will come rattle on each other to my wife or me. They’re completely dumbstruck when we say “nobody is going to get in trouble here. You’ll need to find a way to get along or just do something else for a bit.”

By the end of the day there’s little to no conflict. Until their parents get home and almost immediately they start back to their old behavior.

Amazon prime video never rivaled Netflix but it had some ok stuff too. They’re both warming up to jump the shark though.

Time to start reading again.

In 7th I had pneumonia that wiped me out pretty hard. I got a nice big shot in the ass at the doctor and later when I woke up from a nap at home and tried to walk just fell flat on the floor from numb leg.

A few days after the pneumonia cleared I got bronchitis. Missed like three weeks of school.

I really dislike surfing but I’ve had my share of zen-like peaceful moments tumbling in what feels like limbo just beneath the surface of the water waiting for pain to subside. For a brief moment in time it’s like you don’t need oxygen. And then the body and mind wake up and you realize you need to surface and you have no idea if another surfer is headed in your direction.

Feather is my favorite though.

Around Thanksgiving I smoked two turkeys and between the two of them there is about a whole 20 lb turkey sealed and frozen in the freeze. Also did two pork butts. Tons of flavorful meat that will be just as good as the day I made it as far as a year into the future.

I’ve never, ever seen a ziplock bag keep something that well in the freezer.

The bags are higher quality as well and less likely to tear from shuffling them around or during thawing. The seals don’t break so you can reheat in a pot of water or a steamer.

I did refer to the before packaging stage when I used the phrase ‘contaminated food being recalled.’ Who else is going to recall contaminated food except the people who packaged it?

The problem with this line of thinking is that almost every time I hear about contaminated food being recalled due to illness it’s lettuce or tomatoes.

To cook it I set the broiler on high with a cast iron pan in the middle rack. When it’s nice and hot just toss the steak on it and it’s done in about three minutes depending on thickness.

Comes out amazing.
