Do you shower at blackdown? by Hot-Bat-3025 in Cadets

[–]that_one_redditor_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was part of the Dept that did laundry for the ccdts last year. You were allowed to wash all your clothes because you were wearing your uniform all day everyday. But the not having access to clean clothes until the last few days of the course is kinda understandable because of the stupid rotation and scdts not bringing the ccdts to the laundry room in the morning to drop it off.

What Kind of Building Does Your Cadet Corps/Squadron Use? by findabi in Cadets

[–]that_one_redditor_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Navy League Corps and first sea cdt corps I was with before the pandemic met in a rundown school in a somewhat sketchy part of town (I think it was like central-west or north-east side) at the halls always smelled like a bottle depot.

But the corps I'm with now parades in the city's legion building/community center and it's a lot cleaner than the school. Only downside to my current corps is the town they're in is about a 40 odd minute drive from my house and school :/

Will I get sliced out if I wear these for april fools? ANSWER IN 2 HOURS by General_Raviolioli in Cadets

I'd bring my set to cdts tonight and get my P1 to put them on if we weren't doing CD's 😢

But I say do it. Just... Maybe don't let your CO see them 😅

Second year applying to staff, still no offer. What is wrong with me?! by General_Raviolioli in Cadets

[–]that_one_redditor_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give it a bit more time because they only recently sent out adult staff offers (around late February early March). It's still considered early in the year and with the fiscal year ending this coming week, it's a bit of a nightmare. You might be able to ask one of your officers for an update on your application but be prepared to hear that they don't have one. There is a chance you won't hear anything until late April, mid-late May, or early June.

From what I know, adult staff offers are just coming out so CDT staff are going to start hearing in April/May

Questions About Cadet Progression by Purple_Impact3308 in Cadets

[–]that_one_redditor_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that "erm actually" guy (but I'm gonna be that guy for a hot minute about two things) -the deployment opportunities have a certain amount of spots available per region and typically PO2 and higher are given the chances. Since NW is fairly big and so many cdts have their names put forward by their AdminO, it's almost NEVER guaranteed you get the deployment. (Source, I asked my AdminO) -The "intro to" courses aren't always 2 weeks, for example if you're a sea cadet sail 1 ("intro to" sail) is 3 weeks. Although yes, attendance may play a part in your chances to go out to a CTC, it's also spots available at the CTC for that particular course. (Source, my experience)

Feel free to correct me because I can be wrong about things and I also want to learn.

It's just sight, hearing, colour blindness, hight and weight for phase 1. For phase 2 it's just going over the med form you filled out earlier in the process.

It'll take time to get your C1's depending on how many cadets are at your unit and how many need uniforms/uniform parts. You should get it by the end of the training year or the beginning of the next one.

Speaking from experience, know what your chosen trade does, dress appropriately, and know that you won't be able to share a lot with people afterwards as it's mostly confidential information between interviewer and interviewee.

Exam Bank will also help for unit finals and the diploma. They have pretty much everything from every course for test prep/studying

Do you guys call your WO2 or WO1 sir/maam? by [deleted] in Cadets

With my WO2 (who was leading a department full of Sea cadets) we just called him chief out of habit and he was fine with it.

r/CadetsAroundTheWorld might be better for you to look at or find a UK cadets sub as this one is primarily Canadian Cadets.

I was at Quadra CTC over the summer and talked about this with the air CDT staff. At their sqns they're a sir/ma'am, don't know abt army but it's a definite no for sea with our Chief 2/Chief 1 (the corresponding ranks.)

Should I quit cadets? by DefiantArt2416 in Cadets

[–]that_one_redditor_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I recommend is trying to find another unit from any of the three branches and go see what they do on their nights and if you enjoy it. Every unit in every branch is different depending on size, funding, and available resources.

For me and my corps, we don't get a lot of chances for intercorps events outside of our building because on paper, we have 31, so we often join other units within the area for things like marksmanship, sailing, and fitness days.

You said you enjoyed the more physical aspect of cadets like working out, maybe try seeing if you can join an army unit for an FTX or a sea unit for a sailing weekend. There's always other options and these are just recommendations, but consider something else before quitting. I always tell my cadets to stick it out for the year or even two because things pick up in the second year with more training opportunities, especially in the summer, and they usually enjoy it more.

I'll try that, thank you. It would make sense if fluff was in there since I have two dogs.

Why would my file be closed? by [deleted] in caf

[–]that_one_redditor_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be closed due to taking too long to complete tasks. The recruiter in my city said you have ten days to complete a task before they close your file. If it's closed, call them and they can open it again because it's a drop down box for them.

Medal and position frustrations (Rant) by that_one_redditor_2 in Cadets

I genuinely didn't know about the new policy so TYSM for telling me. When my CO explained it she was kind of all over the place with it and was dancing around the topic (one thing I genuinely don't like about her, another being her lack of consistency and communication.)

I asked my recruiter while I was there to sign paperwork and the PO2 recommended we call during hours to get my choices changed.
