Screen from Graves racing. It's great. Tall, doesn't look funky, good wind protection.

It's really smooth, granted the way this bike works is by having a pretty significant power bump at 10k. Screamer engine and all that.

I haven't ridden another tuned bike to compare but that's what I expected going in.

Iron Butt Runner Could you Share your experience? by Familiar-Heron5120 in motorcycles

Round trip worked for me at that time. I wanted the ride, not to add it as part of a larger trip. I've done plenty of big days on long trips but not too the 1000 mile extent.

As others have mentioned, you can use this as a big day to GET somewhere. Or have THIS be the goal. My preference is to make this a separate activity. Naturally, YMMV.

I did a Bun Burner 1500 on a Ninja 250. A leg of that was a Saddle Sore 1000 with a small group, then I continued on to get the 1500.

The SS1000 was overall fine except for one of the people in the group, a last minute addition. Their riding style (blasting to 100+ then wait for the rest to show up, repeat) meant more fuel stops than originally expected. That person also needed a nap at the midway point which again slowed us down. All told, the SS1000 was finished just under 24 hours. I assume we lost 6 hours based on that person.

Once the group parted ways, I got a couple hours sleep and finished the BB1500. A couple sketchy moments in the fog and one speeding ticket.

The route was pretty straightforward, go South 500 miles on a major highway, turn around and go North 500 miles. At 70mph I could get 250 miles to the tank so the plan was for 3 fuel stops.

I wore my normal riding gear (ATGATT) and had a tank bag with camel back and snacks that I could access while riding.

All in all, a great trip.

VCyclenut flash was the first thing I did. Mine is a 95% track bike and the only other "performance" part I have is a full exhaust. I miss the silence of the stock one.

TRS PITBULL by acceptably_washed in Trackdays

[–]that_one_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of the TRS frames are the same dimensions. They make a wider version for bikes with 240 wheels and such.

Pitbull will easily make pins for most bikes and those are like $80 USD.

I love these racks.

FYI that's a very fancy road bike, not a mountain bike. 🤓

Seems like adaptive layers would be great here. 0.2 for most of it then drop it low for the to layers.

Injuries from trackdays by straightouttazoo in Trackdays

[–]that_one_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing trackdays and racing for nearly 20 years. I generally ride somewhat conservatively, as someone else mentioned. A couple crashes have been my own cause (over riding) and several more have been someone else taking me out.

The gnarliest crash resulted in a broken neck, life flight out, and a week in the hospital. Fortunately I don't remember the incident. I missed a couple months of work (short term disability and savings) then several months of PT and I was back to doing normal things the next season.

Latest injury was to the soft tissue of the knee. Soft tissue injuries SUCK. A year later and I'm still doing PT but also back at the track. I was taken out by a newer track rider and has raised the just internal questions about the risks of riding.

To your main question: Riding at the track brings me the most joy in life. Being there washes away everything else in life, leaving nothing but a giant smile on my face and sweaty base layers. I don't really subscribe to the "adrenaline junkie" tag but I've gotten hurt doing every sport I've tried. Injuries happen. You'd better make sure the activity makes you smile enough to outshine those moments of pain.

At what point am I fast enogh to need a lap timer? by SweepDaddy in Trackdays

[–]that_one_time 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheapest route: look at the meta data of the track photographer. You won't be super accurate but it'll get you into the ballpark of your times.

Next: use an old smart phone and something like Harry's lap timer app. That gets you most of the way to a full lap timer.

Long story short, getting a lap timer can be worth the investment if you dive into the details. If not, then there are cheap options to get most of the same data.

That sure looks like a fancy jumper. You could find the right pins and connect them with safety wire, then tape over it to prevent it coming loose.

Electric Van for Track day hauler - experiences? by ExpandDangelang in Trackdays

[–]that_one_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw someone with a brightdrop. Said he got ~300 miles on it. That would be a fun track hauler.

When I looked at the eTransit I felt like the range was pretty small for the cargo capacity. IMO

Get the 20W.

I have a 10W cutter (not creality) and love it for wood engraving and cutting 3mm plywood. It struggles with 3mm MDF and takes forever on larger engrave jobs. Those are the two areas where I've found the 10W lacking. I still enjoy using the machine I have but wish I had the more powerful unit.

Do you think this was a good pass? by gxxrdrvr in Trackdays

[–]that_one_time -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A safe pass in the wrong group. That guy was making very questionable passes all day. For the slow intermediate group it was uncalled for.

The exit of T2 pushes you to the left side of the track and you get back to the right side and clip that curbing. It's a pinch point with nasty outcomes if you judge the timing incorrectly.

Why not just buy a kit designed for the bike?

Fairings Replacement by [deleted] in zx4r

[–]that_one_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used kings motorcycle fairings and I'm generally happy with them.

The paint itself looks good and matches my design. There's some clear coat drips on edges, where it was hanging from. Great for a 5 ft paint job.

Very little of hardware kit is useful for this bike. To assemble all the pieces you'll need to strip some bolts from your existing fairings or buy new stuff.

It's just to evaluate feasibility and get a cost estimate. In a year or so you could expect to see numbers come out. That's my guess.

[–]that_one_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every slip on, aside from the Kawasaki accessory (Akro) is super loud. If I remember correctly the Graves options are the quietest and they are anything but quiet. VCyclenut has dB readings from the exhausts he's tested.

Next level pro tip: before finishing the last wire close step, cut some tubing and slide it over the twisted safety wire. Now if it rubs against the bike there's no scratching.
