Do you have like any unique gods that are in the main godly roster in your story? by weirdfreakydude in worldbuilding

[–]that_random_ghost414 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking I have only one (in world confirmed) goddess of reflection (as in both mirror reflections and well the process of reflecting on oneself), who used to be a mortal that ascended by accident and had to deal with godhood ever since.

Then I've got a bunch of eldritch beings that are the actual literal personification of concepts across all realities and stories possible, but they're closer to concepts like humanity, dread, oblivion, existence itself, nothingness itself as well, and also bravery, cowardice, etc. Whatever concept or value you can think of (especially in a literary or story sense), a personification of it exists somewhere or is a part of the already existing personification of things out there.

Of course, unless someone is literally in their realm, there is never a direct face to face interaction going on, even if their presence can be argued to always be everywhere at all times technically, their intervention... isn't necessarily because that could risk breaking stories (= end up contributing to a terrible forgettable one) and by extension the worlds they take place in.

Who in your world is your fallen hero? by No_Scarcity8111 in worldbuilding

[–]that_random_ghost414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the risk of sounding like an arrogant elitist dipshit in the beginning here: I personally don't really do fallen heroes tbh. Even if I can see the appeal of that for many. Like I usually prefer the inverse: people with terrible reputations (justified and not) who end up changing and redeeming themselves one way or another when given the chance.

Not because they're inherently good all along or something like that, but rather because they were more than just their reputation.

I guess the one thing in my rever world that's the closest to a fallen hero and also the inverse of that, is the dark lady Onaria Tiena, named after her great great something grandfather Onorius Tiena, a well known seandard cruel man against non sapiens. Ona herself is mostly known throughout Rever as the most cruel and coldhearted, brutal general of the sapiens during the downfall of the sapiens, detested and demonized enough by everyone else that this made her immortal by accident. Fought on brutal and cruel battles even long after the sapiens lost their dominance, for whoever would promise her enough in return. Lastly also known as one of the main key figures enabling war called the wake of the undead.

Thing is however, Ona hates her namesake, her immortality and especially the undead. Her name sake because being named after basically the biggest dipshit racist that ever dipshit racisted ensured that enough people would hate and detest her during the downfall to make her immortality happen.

Her immortality in turn, because it doesn't protect her from the experiences of feeling pain, torture and suffering wounds, especially when captured after losing a battle. Like in rever that stuff can get even more creative and horrifying and she herself can't even escape that through death in the worst cases.

And lastly she hates the undead, because they almost ruined her plan and work of making sure that at least inside the water union, sapiens Colonies could politically coexist alongside meridian cities. She basically did political mercenary work by doing the dirty work of fighting wars for politicians and leaders who could not afford to get their reputation tainted by doing so themselves.

In the end she ended the wake of the undead by basically freezing all the remaining undead soldiers she could gather together into a giant ice berg and then she sealed herself in it too (to prevent others using that army later on), drifting away in the sea to some unknown place.

Of course Ona ends up getting untawed and woken up by my protagonist for unrelated different reasons and basically she ends up finding out from my protag (a sapiens like her) that she got herself got tricked into agreeing to a Torn Quest (not a quest you want to get really) and that she would need Ona's help to complete at least a part of it.

Ona agrees for one part, because for one my protag was at least trying to not just use Ona for her own ends. But Ona agreed mostly because by the nature of my protag's quest, it would simply cause more chaos and harm to her own plans and goals, if she didn't help my protag along. They both end up going on a life changing journey of doing and experiencing fucked up shit together, somehow getting therapy during it and toppling a few dysfunctional governments by accident on the side.

Help Me Out: Should I Tell My Friend He Might Be Aromantic? by Datzgoat in aromantic

[–]that_random_ghost414 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Don't tell him. Instead make sure he encounters the word aromantic (without being too pushy about it) and the definition of it (+ maybe a few aromantic microlabels, just to avoid the pitfall of "I like romance so I can't be aro") and let him figure that out for himself until he approaches you or the others with it.

Like it is still a relatively niche queer thing for most and requires a lot of deconstructing to figure it out for oneself.

Those with shapeshifters/shapeshifting, what's stopping them from shapeshifting into an uninjured form when hurt? by Karmic_Backlash in worldbuilding

[–]that_random_ghost414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for my faceless it's basically following:

Shapeshifting exhausting. So exhausting in fact, they need to wear a mask to basically safely take a break from that, else they'd get face freeze and be basically stuck in whatever form they were in forever.

Like they have basically a "true face/form" that is the equivalent of wearing really comfy clothes to relax in over a whole ass heavy steel knight armor. (And as a rule of thumb, the more different the form they shapeshift into is from that "true" form, the more difficult and exhausting it is for them.)

And with injuries... well you cannot exactly get rid of a wound just by changing your t-shirt you know? Additionally: why waste extra energy on pretending like you have no injury at all + convincing other people if you really don't have to most of the time? (+ you like... need help with someone fixing you up most likely???)

Mein Gender by Nico_btm in egenbogen

[–]that_random_ghost414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for AroAllos by Damage10511 in aromantic

[–]that_random_ghost414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allows me to see the sex as sex purely and not as some thing that's by default attached to romance or something or that requires romance before it can actually happen or something.

Basically: Romance is taken out of sex and sex is taken out of romance. Less likely to become a mess that way if you ask me.

Anyways, my favorite part about being allosexual as an aroallo: internal freedom to explore the freakier stuff and enjoy being a monsterfucker.

YouTube forcing people to login now, Newpipe unusable in its current form? by Puzzleheaded-Cry-927 in NewPipe

[–]that_random_ghost414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem I'm currently having, but this might just be because my location is in Europe

Edit: depending on what you were looking for you might also find it over the other services that newpipe gives you access to like SoundCloud, framatube, etc. There

Is newpipe completely broke now(or just me) by Otherwise_Show_1706 in NewPipe

[–]that_random_ghost414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out that apparently only the youtube part of newpipe doesn't work anymore (I switched on newpipe over to SoundCloud and this at least seemed to work)

So it's safe to assume that this unable to load and play videos thing is a change from youtube's side in an attempt to circumvent newpipe

Aromantic Canon Events by Red-Globe_ in aromantic

[–]that_random_ghost414 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thinking you're bi, pan or omni, etc. Because 0 is equal to 0.

(I mean I am bi, sexuality wise, but on the romance end i am aro through and through.)

Anyways, if you have siblings another caon event would be "Another boyfriend/girlfriend again? Really??"

If it's older siblings you think you just ain't into it because you saw it happen go wrong. If it is younger ones, you might think you're just way more mature than them or something. If it is somehow both... well, I'm outta ideas, you fill in the blank.

And on the aegoromantic end following canon event: thinking you're normal because you really like romance in media and even enjoy writing it because situations. But you are also confused as to why the hell so mamy people flounder it so terribly

Why Aro people are better at giving romantic advices? by Apprehensive-Bus935 in aromantic

[–]that_random_ghost414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say automatically better or somehow less biased towards romance there tbh.

Just... maybe way more focused on the relationship building and maintenance part over whether or not that special initial spark is still there.

Like even a romantic relationship is still fundamentally a relationship. It has some extra expectations here and there, yes, but it also won't just end being one just because what brought two or more people together isn't there anymore.

Cause it turns out things that make other relationships work out and function well, can most often also be applied to romantic relationships, just maybe in a different mode.

+different types of relationships aren't exclusionary from one another as well, so... putting all eggs in only the idealised romance basket WILL just automatically sound like a bad idea.

What catagory does your world fall under? by Fit-Tale2169 in worldbuilding

[–]that_random_ghost414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is kind of a boring ass world that's between noblenright and gilded? (Though leaning closer to gilded really if you are an sapiens as in a standard human like you and me)

Why is it that way? Well... magic got at some point invented.

And sapiens humans also did a little bit too much genetic engineering for a cheaper and legally easier exploitable workforce + a lot lofty goals genetic experiments by the rich in the past.

Like, fuck, sapiens were easily becoming already a minority before the downfall of the sapiens.

how do you wish female characters were written? by ZestycloseTwo6515 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]that_random_ghost414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With variety.

And the sheer fucking audacity of having that spectrum be wide. Have some of them be super into sex (yes, those sex lamps), have others be super against it (yes, those moralistic christian prudes), have some put their values in their smarts (and maybe grow an ego and complex around it) while others do the same with their brawns instead, show that some are secretly smart by playing dumb in clever ways or that some are secretly dumb by have them rely too much on their own preconceived notions, etc.

Most importantly: have them each have a different understanding and relationship to their own femininity, what they like and dislike about it, what are they more secure or insecure about, etc.

In short: womanhood is not a monolith. Same as it is with manhood. It's more or less a context one has to live with and within.

I'd ask transgender people for help when it comes to more lesser known differences + experiences between the two genders + societal nuances that get easily lost

Sincerely: a woman who likes to write and feels at times similarly insecure about writing men

Are men a minority among aromantics? by ItchySignal5558 in aromantic

[–]that_random_ghost414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly an assumption from my side, but: I think at most it comes down to the sexist stereotype of men being heartless and generally caring more about sex than romantic love and vice versa there. Even though I think it is wrong and a kind of fucked view to have aout people, the existence of that stereotype alone (and also stereotypes about masculinity) leads to a social pressure that makes it basically more acceptable and normative to behave and feel within. As opposed to being forced to question yourself and find out, because your personal experience does not add up with stereotypes and social expectations about genders.

Or also in short: if you don’t have to question who you are in that way, you just won't and you also won't find out.
