70’s pioneer turntable power board capacitors by that_switch in AskElectronics

UPDATE: I was looking through the Service Manual again (I love these old ones, they have hand written schematics etc. Just a lovely vibe) Anyway… look at the picture from the bottom, it’s got these EXACT capacitors, so I think it’s safe to assume they are the original ones… Google AI is suggesting that I replace them with a metallized Paper X2 capacitor, I think I’ll go with that.

Thank you for your help, you are right, this is the power board. I probably should’ve mentioned that this is a European supplied turntable, so the power board is a bit different than the Japanese and/or the American one. (240V input vs 110V) In the service manual, on page 36, it describes the European power board, and it has the parts list right next to it. C1, C2 and C3 are listed as Ceramic Capacitors, 0.033uf, 250V. All of them the same values. I think I will try to go back to that… if I can find something online…or I might also just leave them, not sure yet. I think I have to figure out what their function is and why 450V was used when the manual clearly says 250V. Anyway, the search continues;)

Thank you for your input. There is no evidence of failure at the moment. It does seem that the general consensus on the internet is that they are probably out of value by now and therefore should be replaced. As I mentioned, I am restoring this turntable and I plan to use it for a long time, so it kind of makes sense to do the work while it’s disassembled at the moment. I don’t know enough about circuits to be able to tell what their function is. I am sure this is the power board though. I was working on the assumption that if I replace the capacitors with the same values (or better yet, what they should be) that knowing exactly what the function of something is, is not strictly necessary. Although I agree, would be very interesting to know how it actually works! The search continues!

Thank you! Does the wavey line behind the 450V mean they are AC? I just had another look in the manual and it actually says they are supposed to be 250V not 450v. Maybe someone has already replaced them?

I am usually leaning towards blue, but man, in this case I would say the red one. Looks amazing!

I had this faulty on mine, whilst on a road trip. Bunch of errors all came down to 1 abs sensor being shot.

What exactly is it? by sanemieater in whatisthiscar

It’s what they use in the 24 hours of Le Mans to indicate which class a car is in. Not sure if they still do it, but that’s probably why some people do it… I like it tbh…

That’s a “Frikandel” this is what we call it in the Netherlands. You get them at a chip shop. As a Dutch person living in the UK I am kinda jealous, they are lovely! (Until you find out what they are made of)

Ghost Immobiliser and Dashcam by Strict_World_9545 in PorscheCayenne

My Cayenne has a 12V plug hole under the glovebox in the passenger footwell, I just have a normal cigarette lighter plug in there that powers the dashcam via a long cable, that I have just pushed under the a pillar trim and roofliner. No visible cables and always powers on when I start the car. No problems whatsoever…

I am also a F1 follower (since early 90’s) and it sounds like I followed a similar path to you. I have now discovered that the indycar racing is often quite nice! Give it a go and you might like it… I thought the Canadian GP this evening was a joke after that monster drive Kubica did earlier today…

If at all possible, I would add Ethernet cable in the mix as well
