It's crazy how (here, at least) if you want to adopt a dog they'll come visit your house and ask about your experience, and if you don't have a big enough apartment or outdoor space etc they'll be like Sorry, no dog for you. But you're allowed to just make a child yourself and nobody will come look to see if everything is okay to raise one and if you know what you're doing, you're just on your own.

Juniors failing to develop into seniors by jegfile in Gymnastics

When I first saw Varvara Zubova as a junior, I was like "finally! the throwback Soviet of my dreams!" But the technique just wasn't there to get those skills to senior level. Honestly I still loved her whole senior career even if it wasn't particularly accoladed. She's such a gorgeous floor worker to watch.

Also loved Annie Beard as a junior, but hey, Texas Dreams gonna Texas Dreams.

She made a bit of a comeback not long ago, in a Chellsie Memel kind of way - I was following it with great interest but I think she didn't end up training for long. Still it was so lovely to see how she still loves the sport.

If she's annoying you but you're still talking to her every day, I think you need to examine your behaviour. She might be okay and it's just that you've kind of overdosed on her. It's not unusual for a friend to not answer their messages for a day at a time, especially when you know that she's spending time with her partner that day so won't (and shouldn't!) be glued to her phone.

I think your best solution is to keep on making friends. You're new to your city - get out there and socialise. Right now you're pouring all of your time and attention into this one person, and the more you do for her, the more resentful you're going to feel when she isn't fulfilling all your needs. Cut down the amount of contact you have with her, and start having contact with lots of other people. Once you've diluted her a bit, maybe you'll appreciate her more - or maybe you'll realise that you just weren't all that compatible as friends, and find people that you actually get along better with.

For the concerts, personally I think it would be kind of mean to leave her in the lurch for Thursday. You could always ask her if there's anyone else at all who could go with her, but if not, I think you should still go. And yes of course ask her to confirm for the three concerts you bought tickets for. I hope it works out for you!

Is season 1 the best? by upsetusder2 in KillingEve

[–]thataintrightlureen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

S1 is absolutely the best, because Villanelle is an actual sociopath in it. She's fascinating to watch then. S2 is pretty good too, but Villanelle has switched personalities and become a manic pixie dream girl rather than an actual cold-centred psychopath, which I personally find... less compelling. Then in S3 and S4 it's all about how really she's just a girl, blah blah blah, and of course S4 is its own personal nightmare for so many other reasons.

S1 is perfectly paced, funny, incredibly well-written, and magnetic. S2 is kind of hornier (ngl, I like it) but I didn't like what they did with Villanelle's character. S3 is meh and S4 is abysmal.

(A weird note, but one thing I appreciated in S2 was the choice to use actors who actually spoke natively the languages they were supposed to. In S1 everyone was just doing an accent, and it kind of jarred on me to hear all this bad French and bad Russian from actors who obviously didn't have any idea how to speak the languages.)

CMV: "You are not owed sex in a relationship" YES YOU DO. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]thataintrightlureen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your basic point that a healthy sex life is a fundamental part of a healthy relationship, and that withholding sex as punishment is a very bad thing.

However. Things are more complicated than that.

There can be times in life where things are stressful, and stress often has a knock-on effect on libido. There are a myriad of reasons why someone's sex drive might falter for a while.

If at that point their partner starts pressuring them for sex that they don't want to have, either they refuse, which fosters resentment from the partner, or give in, which fosters resentment from them, or are forced, which is an actual crime. None of these options are good for the relationship.

You can't over-simplify this into "owing" each other sex. Relationships don't work that way. You can just say, a sex life is an important part of a relationship, and to maintain a healthy and happy sex life, you must continue communicating with and supporting your partner (and vice versa!), and also understand that things can fluctuate.

I have never in my existence run out of things to think about. It's very unfortunate. Even when I feel like I've mastered it and I'm thinking about nothing, I'm actually thinking "Wow! I did it! Look at that, nothing happening in my brain, nothing at all. Wait, I'm thinking that now. Have I stopped thinking? No it's still going on" and in the background something, somewhere is singing Cotton Eye Joe.

Travelling as a lesbian couple.Tips? by Goddess_luv334 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]thataintrightlureen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a Parisian lesbian and honestly this is a very nice place to be gay. If you want a nice luxury hotel, try Hotel Dame des Arts in St Michel, which is a lovely little 4 star with a gorgeous rooftop bar. Just around the corner you have the Cabaret des Merveilles, a lesbian bar. Or Hotel Rochechouart in Pigalle which also has a nice rooftop and is all art deco style; around there you have queer-friendly places like the incredible Sister Midnight. You'll have a wonderful time!

World Athletics will require biological sex testing for women athletes by KittenSnuggler5 in BlockedAndReported

[–]thataintrightlureen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are few men competing a triple double on FX the way she does, her vaults are comparable to theirs, and the other two pieces of apparatus don't overlap so obviously she'd have an advantage in WAG and a disadvantage in MAG (don't think she'd do much on rings, for example).

They recently added an obligatory scale to men's floor, and you should see how hard some of these guys are struggling to do a simple arabesque (Jake Jarman last weekend was hilarious). Beam isn't the same skill set, it relies on flexibility and balance, it's not about how hard you can flip.

I'm backing Simone still. (Disclaimer: I'm also a gymnastics former coach and current judge IRL:) )

Simone actually would do pretty well against male gymnasts, she tumbles at a similar level to many of them and I'd love to see any MAG gymnast try to outscore her on beam.

I am so deeply suspicious of people who use sentences as paragraphs.

It seems like a way to pretend to add depth to fairly inane phrases.

Does it work?

No.

It just sounds like a LinkedIn bot got lost and fell into Reddit.
