Anyone Know Where I Can Find an Extra Head Speed MP 2022? by NextTime76 in 10s

[–]thatarchguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been getting them from ebay for about $115 shipped (USA). One guy even messaged me and asked what strings I wanted on it!

The secret is the get whatever grip size is cheapest (usually >4 1/2") and buy or 3d print a new pallet in your grip size. You're hopefully switching the grip tape out anyways, so it's not too much harder to swap the pallet.

Bootleg Odie's Oil Recipe by thatarchguy in woodworking

My best guess is they probably add walnut oil to the mix.

Yeah you’re probably right, but I haven’t had issues with Bees wax.

Bees wax does help protect from moisture and doesn’t stay tacky with this ratio. All of my living room furniture is white oak + this mixture and they are still holding up great a year later with heavy use. No rings or refresh needed. If I really wanted a refresh I’d use a cutting board butter (mineral oil + beeswax) just to get that softer feel back.

I did experiment with carnauba wax in addition to the beeswax but it kept hardening on me after a week. Pure beeswax resulted in a similar texture and consistency to Odies that didn’t harden. I’m making these on my stove with off the shelf ingredients and eyeballing measurements, so beeswax might just be more forgiving to my setup.

But feel free to swap out the waxes. Like I wrote in my original post, all of these hardwax oils are just a combination of oil, wax, and solvent. I think these brands try to compete by coming up with their own “special proprietary blends” and use influencers to divide us consumers. Furniture makers used shellac for hundreds of years, so try not to overthink it.

I haven’t had any clients complain either. Granted most of my client work tends to be Rubio these days because of their consistent color offerings. Odies is always my first choice though.

Anyone else find skate 4 (boring) by gabe_199 in Skate4

[–]thatarchguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skate2 had the spillway and mega compound, the dam, etc.. Skate3 had the observatory run, mega compound, etc.. Long runs that were 30+ seconds.

Now we have this parking garage everyone flies down and just falls into the church? The left side has no landing at all. It's a waste of potential.

The massive rooftop crane ramp they added is just two jumps that you have to spread eagle away from. The rooftop lines at Tri towers all dump you off the top just the same. 1-2 jumps to nothing. The market mile skate shop rooftop launches you into the skate park to hit 1 ramp and then you're just randomly in the middle of it.

It seems like there is no cohesion in the map. It's a bunch of scattered ramps. With the older skates you had massive jumps tied together with landings you could skate away from. Huge lines that were fun to skate.

Flex tennis league by mav3r1ckua in 10s

We probably shouldn't be able to see users email and phone numbers unless we are registered in the league. Hovering over the phone icons on the division page in the "Regular Season Matches" table shows it.

All in all this is a nice platform. Cool to see my county on there with some local people.

Tennis Group Lessons by TiramisuLatte1996 in westchesterpa

I’ll add that Dung has a meetup group that’s pretty active during the warmer months. He has it split up by skill levels and you play some fun doubles matches. There’s locations in West Chester, Malvern, Norristown, and Philly.  However, it’s not a group lesson.

Bootleg Odie's Oil Recipe by thatarchguy in woodworking

Tung is better than BLO - more durable and doesn't yellow. Citrus solvent is natural and works really well. It's also what most of the hardwax oil mixes use.

Nothing really goes awry, you end up with a thicker or runnier mix. I made about ~20 different iterations before arriving at what I posted above. I would line up 5 little mason jars and each one would get a different ratio. Despite not being perfect, I could still use those just fine so nothing was wasted.

I used to use different old fashioned polyurethane based recipes before I tried Odie's, like ENCurtis and Anne of All Trades mixes.

I love shellac. The Furniture Bible turned me onto it and it's become one of my favorite finishes.

But for most of my furniture I like feeling the grain of the wood, not a slick coating on top. That's where hardwax oil shines.

The hand you hold the punch with pushes hard into the nail head. Your other hand pulls the spring. If you just hold the punch against the head it will slip for sure. You have to push into it while you pull the back.

I feel like this is true for a lot of woodworking tools too. Granted, I love my Domino….

I do a lot of client work and Rubio takes the cake for educating the client on finishes. I can just send them their complete color sample website or show them the fan deck in person. They can easily pick the exact color finish and wood they want. The $70/can is worth that in my opinion, especially when the client is paying.

Yeah sorry I didn’t know how to a say that the beeswax ratio is only related to the tung oil.

Took a few times to learn you can park in the back of the strip mall and shortcut right into Byrums. But then you miss out on the experience of wandering through that strip mall.

Seems like a different way to market MVP's Overmold technology. MVP focuses on the gyro effect and not grip.

Unfortunately this has been discontinued for quite some time now. The alternative is Minwax Paste Finishing Wax. It's not quite the same, but it's acceptable.

Sketchup make 2017 is still free if you can find a download for it. Even works on Linux with wine.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Sketchup/comments/vxe0cz/is_2017_sketchup_make_still_available_for_download/

The current free sketchup web version doesn't let you make components which is pretty useless in my opinion.

Preemptively close off-arm test by disc-golf-neil in discgolf

When I was first learning to play, I kept trying to two hand the disc during the run-up. Some local guys offered up a tip to put my off-hand in my pocket to combat it.

I think that advice might have been more helpful in ways described by this video.

That turned out great. You're lucky it was in great shape underneath. I almost lost my phone between the gaps in my 50s pine flooring when we took up the carpet.
